Well jeez louise.
When will these product safety issues end...
I have investigated this a little bit....

Pet Edge Recall of PetEdge Toothpaste being made on the QT

I will be putting this up on the front page of the site.
What I don't understand is that they said "they sent an email to all of their customers"? Is this something you can't buy a pet store? If so, how would they know if you bought it or not?
They are a mail order company (formerly New England Serum), I'm guessing this is their private label.
PetEdge is a big online pet supply store that targets groomers and pet care people. I've always been pleased with their products and prices but I'm selective on what I purchase. I was looking for dental scalers the other day and had looked at their other dental products. Since the girls are all good about being handled, I'll stick with dental tools instead of topical solutions.

Was this toothpaste also made in China?? We all need to be alert and read labels on country of origin or call the company before ordering if the information isn't provided online. Not just on foods but also toys that our dogs put in their mouths and supplements products used for general care. If in doubt, stick with proven name brand products from reliable sources. I think this is the best we can do.

Top Performance pet care products are not sold in superstores in order to offer you a great profit opportunity
through retail sales.

If they only accept telephone or online orders, they probably see individual email contact as being sufficient. Surely they have a database of all the people who purchased this product. If an email is returned as undeliverable, the responsible thing to do would be to telephone or write the customer instead since may be a life or death matter.

There is one consideration here that has not been mentioned that I feel is very important...
Since PetEdge sells to groomers and other pet care people, those of us who take our dogs in to be professionally groomed should make sure our personal groomer does NOT use this product on their clients.
Maybe I should back up a second. I assume that this product was likely getting into many more hands than just their direct customers. Don't you think the Groomers are likely reselling the product? After all PetEdge (aka New England Serum) did a large wholesale biz... didn't they?

Wait a sec... in fact that's exactly what that quote is saying... essentially "we don't sell these through petco and petsmart, so you can sell them at a good profit."

So there are countless retail customers out there for whom PetEdge doesn't have contact info, and likely most groomers don't keep careful enough records to know to whom they have sold product.

Pet Edge needs to PUBLICLY advertise this product recall!!!

I agree, the hush hush recall could claim a lot more lives. :x
You're right, Ron. It would be a real concern if groomers SOLD this stuff to their clients. PetEdge is relying on the groomers to notify clients which is not a proactive, dog-protecting approach. You could forward this thread/link to PetEdge... maybe more would be done.

Do pro-groomers brush teeth? How many people might be clueless that this has been used on their dog if it's part of the grooming process? It's been about 20 years since I've used a pro-groomer so I have no idea.

The company has received no reports of any illnesses associated with this product and is recalling it out of an abundance of caution.

How many people would make the connection between an illness and the groomer or an illness and toothpaste?
Please help spread the word.

I have already DIGGed this, please digg it if you have an account.

Please post this URL wherever you can find it, email it around.

If the company won't tell people, we need to spread the word.
