They remove them. The hormones they produce are what causes the behaviours, that's a great reeason to heve them removed.

Also while performing a vasectomy would prevent unwanted breeding, but would not protect against testicular cancer.

They don't miss'em!

Thank you for doing the responsible thing!
Neutering is a safe easy responsible thing to do. Dogs don't have the attachment to their testicles that humans have. Have you stopped to think about what your obstacle to removing the testes is? Do you think your dog will be happier or healthier with them left? I am certainly far from an expert but I guess I never heard of neutering without removing the testes.

my vet says i have to wear a umbrella thing around my neck for about 5 to 10 dasy to stop me pulling stitches out will i get back on track quickley after this .?
Oh usually it's very quick!

Here are some things that may be an otpion other than the e-collar:

http://www.oes.org/page2/4294~Shorts_in ... roach.html

Some dogs don't bother at the stitches at all, some do.
Recovery is usually very quick!! Within just a couple days you (and Neville) will hardly know it was done!! Good Luck.
Sometimes the e-collar is needed. However, we have never needed one in all the years I have had dogs spayed and neutered.
