Picky eater.....

Okay, so Brian, Panda and I head to the beach....everything is great....except, Panda has started to be a super finiky eater....she would not eat anything unless I added ground beef or chicken to it and then only eat until the good stuff was gone....it looks like she has lost a few pounds...should I remain firm with her now that we are home and just feed her her normal meal of dogfood with a sprinkle of cheese or do I continue to add ''good'' stuff?

What happened? She now has me trained! 8O

Whever we take our dogs up to the cabin they eat very poorly. There is just too much other stuff going on. They all look horrible when they get home from running around all day and not eating. They usually get back to their normal diets after a few days.

Izzie is a light eater too...she has us trained to add goodies to her food...sneaky dog
Welcome back Darcy! :)

How was your trip?

Panda will probably begin to eat normally soon now that you're home... but I know the feeling, mine have me trained to add stuff now too
btw stacey....mayo does work...panda loves it...sigh...vacation was awesome....you will all be proud...I used 30 spf every day...and then used fake tan lotion in the evening....i still have a nice healthy glow....too bad it took me almost 39 yrs to figure it out!! I have to post pics of the picky eater playing in the ocean, but i forgot the camera at home...ill do it first thing tomorrow!
Good to know about the mayo, maybe I'll try it tonight....

I've been adding canned food to their meals, the kind that looks like beef stew with peas and carrots, not the pate kind. They love it, but Panda got diarreah for a couple of days so I didn't add any last night. She ate all her food anyway, but I still don't feel she is eating enough to gain weight. If I put 3 cups in her bowl, she will eat it all, but if I add another cup, it is left... I think she needs at least 4 cups a day to gain weight. This new food they're on seems to satisfy them with less, so it's hard to tell just yet exactly how much they need.
I only put in about a tablespoon....that did the trick!! Now, I just need to get her to like her boring old dry food!
yogurt! good for them or cottage cheese.

Every morning for Laika. She needs to eat her breakie before day care. This way she gets it done.
Yeah, when we were having trouble with Barns we gave him cottage cheese. He loves it.
What we do to get our dogs to eat  I'm always adding something to their food to keep their interest up.......thinned out left over gravy, meat drippings, left over soup, etc.

Lately I've been medicating so many ill, injured and arthritic dogs around here that I've taken to hiding the pills in soft butter or margarine. They actually prefer the stuff with some real butter in it. They don't like straight margarine......pickey blokes! Next they'll tell me they prefer Smart Balance!

So now the ones not receiving "butter ball" pills are looking at their food and then at me, "Where's my butter ball?" I toss a bit onto their food and they are happy.

Yeah gads.
Over at my parent's house, they are having a very similar issue with their Bichon Frise, Sparky, who is not only finicky about his food but needs someone to stand over him and be the "food police" for him when he eats so he actually eats and does not just futz around the room with the food in it. They did try putting human food on top of his dog food to make it more attractive for him to eat, but it started to cause him to have a lot of dental issues. According to Sparky's vet, giving dogs human food that frequently can greatly contribute to oral problems such as tooth decay and gum decay.
When I was younger my sister and I used to house/dog sit two basset hounds for some friends. The one dog had to have heart meds. First we started out with it in cream cheese. Then wouldn't eat that. Then yellow cheese wrapped around it. Then it progressed to this liver stuff. Talk about freeken us out trying to get this dog her heart meds and everything we try she spits out. Smart she was. I think she knew we were spiking the treats. :)
