Grooming Clothes

When it is grooming time I usually pull out an old T-shirt and leggings and by the end of the session they are covered in hair.

I can shake them outside, but that doesn't remove all the hair. I hate putting them in the laundry for the hair to clog up pipes or filters or whatever, and also get on other clothes in the same load.

I can sometimes find something that doesn't attract the hair that much, like nylon or something like that.

or do I just find something and change in and out of them until they are dirty enough to throw out?

What do folks do?

Have you considered grooming dans la nudité? 8O
Ron,

You took the words right out of my mouth!!!!! I wouldn't of said it so fancy.. but it would of meant the same.
I have this plastic rubbery apron that I wear over old clothes.
The apron keeps a majority of the hair off.
I usually groom in jeans and a tee shirt. They don't hold as much hair as synthetic surfaces, for one thing. For another, I have my work clothes, and then, I have jeans and a tee shirt. For certain, I avoid fluffy sweaters and such that tend to hold hair.

I don't find I have real problems with dog hair clogging up drains or washers. Of course, I do take off big clumps by hand.

Ron, is that your grooming uniform.
That is an issue we are forever trying to work out. Our clothes can be relatively hair free, and then come out of the dryer covered!

I think jeans are the best way to go, they don't collect hair, and probably a good quality cotton shirt similar to denim material that won't collect as much. A lot of people use an apron or a lab coat.

I have to admit that yes, it is. Since I get quite warm and sweaty doing this, it sticks to me a bit but just in front, so I can brush myself off pretty good. Then I take a shower and all is well with the world.

Of course you all know that it would be hard for me to see some extra hair on me, it's like missing the trees for the forest, so to speak.

I don't know how much remains stuck but I don't seem to find any of the dog's hair on the drain. If I don't shower right away I do get itchy, so there must be some sticking.
I use what elissa uses a rubbery apron. I am only short so it covers me from the neck to the ankels nearly 8O Then when you have finished grooming or bathing you just wipe over with a damp cloth or just shake it.

I got sick of dog hair on the clothes going over everything in the dryer even after it was washed. You should of seen my hubbys business shirts, he would go to work hairy and get plucked Ha Ha. 8)

No problems since getting the apron, so hubby is pleased and off to work hairless on his shirts. LOL
I don't even wear good clothes in the house. I change at least 3 times a day, usually more! For grooming, I'm usually wearing my "house clothes," which this time of year is a tank top and cotton gauchos or a little cotton skirt. I use a hair pick-up on everything before it goes in the wash otherwise I'd wreck my machine and pipes for sure. It's a pretty easy thing to do once you get in the habit. I keep the sticky hair roller right by the hamper and make sure I run it over everything before I toss it in. It's down to a science now!
My groomer recommended scrub pants and a version of the lab coat that you purchase at the beauty supply shop. It's a very slick material that zips up the front.
Addition: I do wash clothes that are likely to be covered in dog hair separately from other clothes, and especially dry them separately, too. Otherwise, I do get dog hair on say, black pants.

Ron, I'm trying really hard not to picture you grooming your dog.

And then you wonder why you get tick bites...
Hope he does not slip with the brush OUCH 8O
I'd be more worried about the clippers! 8O

Also, Ron, my husband doesn't recommend frying bacon in that attire either!! (yes, he learned the painful way!)
Great, now that twitch is back. I thought I got rid of it when we declared no more postings of the tick bite but now I think I'm going to need hardcore meds to make it stop!

When I groom at shows I wear a super long jacket that I got at Sally's Beauty Supply. It's sleeveless so it's not as hot as the other ones I've seen and it still keeps the junk off. At home I wear whatever old clothes I grab. I just throw them in the wash without any thought. Now I need to rethink that! D'oh!
Good thing I don't groom at shows, eh?
Petedge had a nice section on grooming apparel.

I love petedge. I always order from them.
Sometimes you can get a pretty good deal on sale stuff.
The grooming clothes are exactly like what you'd find in any
beauty supply place, except some have funky pet prints. I guess
you could easily make one of your own if you can find material in
a fabric store. Cost wise though you may be better off buying it
premade.

There are always racks of smocks and aprons for sale at the dog
shows here. They are a bit pricey at the shows though.

Shellie
I still think lab coat is the way to go . . .
We used to use scrubs and aprons at work.
Pet supply house also has grooming smocks and it's pretty close to Milton....

Or try JB Wholesale, they have some grooming smocks that aren't horribly ugly :)
