Knife wiedling maniac in my yard yesterday!

Billy called me yesterday and said you will never believe what happened!
He had gotten back from the shooting range where he got to play around with his shotgun for the first time.

He was sitting in the pool cleaning the shotgun and this crazy little maniac jumps over our 6 ft wall 8O Billy said the guy was definitely on something. There is thing 5' tall Mexican man standing there in our yard staggering around. Billy yells out him to get the F*** out of our of the yard. Then they guy whips out a knife and is still staggering around.
Billy proceeded to load the shotgun and fire off a warning shot in the air.
The guy was just standing there shocked. He then proceeded to jump back over the way.

Billy called the police and they were here is a very short time. Turns out there had already been reports of this guy to the police.
Billy did not mention that he fired a warning shot into the air. He would have gotten a fine.

When I got home last night Billy met me and the kids at the car. I didn't see the news last night so I don't know if he was caught.

I am just so happy that it happened when Billy just happened to have the gun in hand. I doubt that guy would even attempt to come back.
I don't even want to think what would have happened if Billy didn't have it. 8O

Wow... glad everyone is ok, that's scary!
How insane...

Reminds me of the drunk guy who wandered right into my house and into my livingroom not long ago. I don't think he was dangerous, just very drunk and very stupid... but still, it's scary.
Holy crap! That is very scary! I am so glad no one was injured and no other harm was done. Let us know if they catch the guy!
I am just happy I wasn't here!
HOLY CRAP 8O 8O 8O is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would hope that firing a shot in the air when being threatened by a knife weilding crazy person would be considered an act of self protection.

OH MY OH MY OH MY!!!!
OMG OMG OMG! 8O 8O 8O
"Warning shot"?

What's that?
He was cleaning the gun in the pool?
Ginny, They would have confiscated his guns for firing within city limits.
Then there would have been an investigation.
It just would have been a big mess that is why he didn't tell them.

Ron, Billy said Ha ha, Exactly!

Jill, he was sitting in the pool cleaning the gun, not cleaning the gun in the pool. 8O
What I meant was if I fire a gun, actually if I draw a weapon, it would be with the intent to kill. I forget the statistics, but I seem to recall they were pretty clear that if a non-trained person (or was it a non-police officer?) draws their weapon and doesn't use it immediately, they're in greater danger than if they hadn't drawn a weapon.

This is why I've not had a handgun in my home. I have used handguns and rifles. I am certain that I would without hesitation take it out and shoot to kill if I felt that my family or I was in danger.

However, I fear that I wouldn't be able to live with myself afterward. So I choose to make the life and death decision now, while I can give it due consideration, and not while in a stressful situation.

If only everyone thought that way....

Another good reason to support the Minute Men in the quest of protecting our borders. And, another good reason to support the NRA for the right to bear arms.

Glad your family is safe!

I'd rather be safe than sorry as far as guns go. But, you're right Ron. Most people hesitate, allowing the weapon to be taken and used on them, instead of them being the one using it.

I'd hate those after thoughts, but I "think" I could live with those easier than I could those of not being able to protect my loved ones, especially in my own home. Either way, both are unexcusable. We shouldn't have to worry about protecting anyone! People should have enough love and respect for one another to no harm to one another........ :( jmop
Yikes...so glad everyone is okay!
Geez Ginny! Nice neighborhood! Although, I keep picturing the intruder as a leprechaun type character. I could just imagine Billy's surprise too. Maybe the guy was part of one of those hidden camera shows and they decided not to stick around once the gun came into play!

Ron, it's non-police officers. Trained or not, if you do not use your weapon right away it only escalates the situation and usually ends with you on the losing end. You have the right idea. Make your decision early and stick to it. The threat of a gun only goes so far and it's better to make a verbal threat about a gun, when talking home defense not face to face confrontations, than it is to brandish a weapon and not use it. Unlike you, I have a gun and I will use it if the need arises. There's a reason to have it and if someone feels that they need to enter my home despite my dogs, my lights and my security system then they have made their choice and I will defend my life, the lives of my loved ones and my property with the sufficient amount of force necessary. A good thing to remember for anyone dropping by the house. Always ring the bell!!!
Wow. Imagine if the intruder himself had a gun...... 8O 8O
The music from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly would have played, a tumbleweed would have rolled past and then......
Wow, Elissa, how scary!!! So glad Billy is okay and that he had the guts to fire off the warning shot. And SO glad you and the kids weren't home!! Please let us know if the cops ever catch the guy.

And we've got plenty of them.
We really don't have a bad neighborhood. But we are right on the edge of the desert. I think the guy must have been tripping on Jimson weed.
Billy said he was really messed up.
I honestly don't think the guy had any idea where he was going.
But if he did I am sure he won't be back.

Actually, a few days ago here there was a man who kidnapped and killed a girl (young woman, really). She worked at Nordstrom and had pulled into the parking lot before work (at 8:50am). The surveillance camera shows him pull up a few seconds later and as she got out he met her at the back of her car and they talked for a second and then he escorted her into his car. They then drove away. She was found a few days later and he then killed himself. Anyways, he was only 5 2, so people called him the leprechaun man...So when MAndy called him that, that's what I thought of. Very scary.

Elissa, I'm glad you and the kids weren't home and that Billy took care of it. I don't think that you or Haley would have been quite as scary to the strange man...
What a frightful experience. 8O I'm so glad Billy was there and you & the kids were not! Seems like he handled it perfectly.

Scary.
Oh ym gosh! I take a long weekend hiatus from the internet, and i come back to intruders and gun shots!!!! SCARY!!!! I'm so glad everyone is ok, and that you and the kids weren't home when it happened.
8O

:phew: glad everyone is okay...WOW
