Anyone going to the OES National Specialty in Williamsburg?

Just curious... Who is planning to attend the 2006 OES National Specialty in Williamsburg, Virginia? The show is October 4th thru 6th.

Last year I met a lot of people including several from this board. Others were there that I didn't know about until after the show. Maybe there is some way we can identify ourselves as oes.org members and meet in person this year???

(Hint: I'll be the one with the big, shaggy gray & white dog... :rimshot: )

No :( bit too far to go. But hope you all have a wonderful time and best wishes to those showing too.

The rescue parade looks like it is heaps of fun is that held at the same venue too?

Maybe in a few years time I will get my wish to visit the states for the Nationals. :D So I just have to satisfy that for the time being with a video of the show after it is all over and someone brings one back.

Have fun Nita and Nelson, hope you get to meet a few forum members there that would be so wonderful :D
It is 1100 miles each way for me and that translates into an 18 hr drive there and back with 3 sheepies.

I wish I could but that is just far.

Next year could you have it maybe in TN, MO, or how about Atlanta. I could make that drive. :D
I booked my room although I'm not sure if I can miss not being here at the office just yet..

I won't be showing, but Maxmm will!

Maybe you can PM me to meet up somehow?
I'm still up in the air if I am coming or not. I won't have a dog there this year even if I *do* go. We are in the middle of breeding Delilah so there is no way she will be coming...

I do have a room booked already, I just have to decide if I WANT to go back to the East coast for a 3rd year in a row. Last year was nice, but it's TIME for the national to rotate to other area's of the country again.

Entries closed last Wed. Anyone know if they received a good entry? I only know a couple of people that are going.

But to all those that do go, that are OESCA members. Please go to the members meeting.... and vote to open the CA/health registry. This is VERY important to the health and longevity of our wonderful breed. There are those of us that fear if we don't get this opened, we wont hae OES in our future.

Ali
I'm going and I'll have a dog and a bitch in the classes. (Unless stupid Suzi takes the show this weekend! :x ) She'll also be in sweeps so that's another entry there.

Nita, I'll be the one with 1 little shaggy grey dog and 1 medium some black, some grey and white dog! :o When are you getting there and are you staying the whole time?

Verve, why'd you book a room? I got the room with 2 beds in case you came down!! Now I'm calling and changing it to a king size!

The National will be in Michigan next year. So it's at least closer to the middle of the country. Us East Coast people don't mind the right coast trend though!
Michigan!?!? How cool is THAT!
We'll be arriving early Tuesday and will be staying until Saturday morning. "Someone" volunteered us to help put plastic down in the grooming area and do some decorating before the show. :cow:

I'm picking up a dog for Rescue this weekend so we may also have a dog we can enter in the Rescue Parade. Would be a great opportunity for socialization and evaluation before putting him up for adoption. :hearts:

Now that's more like it! See, I don't even have to come to Pennsyvania, Mandy. This works out perfect.
OOOH...Williamsburg is only a half hour from me...I wanna come and see some well behaved sheepies. I've heard rumors that they exist

Everyone...Virginia is absolutely BEAUTIFUL in the fall, so y'all need to come see us! (And this is coming from the girl who really doesn't like VA very much! )
Nita, I'm running on the same schedule as you are. Arriving midmorning Tuesday and leaving Saturday whenever I feel like rolling out of bed. I talked to Doug last night about volunteering for some of the activities and he delegated me to some other people so I'll call them tonight. After working all week last year, I almost want to be lazy this year. That and I'll have 2 dogs to take care of!

Jill, you still need to come to Pennsylvania. Maybe when the National is here again in 15 or 20 years!!! Right back at yah!!
I kinda wish the show was in Michigan, too. It would be about half the distance as Williamsburg for us. 8O
I wish I could go!! I would LOVE to see the Specialty and participate in the Rescue Parade. :D

Williamsburg is nice, especially in the Fall. 8)

If only I didn't have to work...
Maybe I am just having a senior moment "day"! I would like to attend this show. I have a rescue sheepy not a show dog but would love to see all the dogs. I cannot find any info on this other than the date. I have a few questions. Where in Williamsburg is this being held? How do you purchase tickets if needed? Can I bring my Sheepdog to this event even if he is not in the show? (could possibly do the rescue prade ,sounds like fun,but he is already rescued) What Hotel/motel near there allows dogs? Of course he has all his immunizations, has his CGC and loves to travel. Any infornation would be greatly appreciated. I have googled this event but can't seem to find much . Thank you in advance. This is all new to me!
The dates are October 4-6, the show site is called the WISC (I think it's the Warhill Sports Complex?) in Williamsburg.
The rescue parade will be on Friday around lunch time and it is for people who have rescued sheepdogs so you qualify. You can bring your dog for that but I don't know how big the staging area is if you want to walk around or park your pup in a crate somewhere. Some of these places can get a little tight for space and the grooming takes up a lot of area. The rescue people seemed to really like the festivities last year but there wasn't a whole lot of room if they wanted to bring a crate to use or anything like that.
OH and to participate in the rescue parade, you need to register. The deadline is September 20th and here is a link for the parade info: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=9796
Here's the link for the schedule: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... hedule.htm
I don't think tickets are necessary. If so, the security was terrible last year with people just walking in and out as they please.
The host hotel is the Ramada Inn 1776. There may still be some rooms left under the OESCA group rate. You can give them a call and check, just tell them you are coming down for the Old English Sheepdog Club.
Thank you !Thank you !Thank you ! If possible I would just keep Guinness with me, not in a crate, he likes to wander at events and is very well behaved. Hopefully we can make it to this event.
I have made my reservations ! Tue. thru Sat. and have emailed the info for Guinness to be in the rescue parade. This is the first OES dog show we have attended and we are looking forward to the experience. Thank you all for your help and input. :D

Cindy and Guinness
Even though you aren't an OESCA member, you could work at the National too. I did the welcome/registration table last year and met EVERYBODY. (They had to come through me to get their badges so I met them all!) So you could always volunteer an hour here and an hour there to man the table and put names with faces. Just a thought because I really enjoyed it!
(You could also buddy up to people and get sponsors for OESCA membership that way too! )
I would love to vol.! My hubby is comming also. How do I sign up?? As I said this is all new to me but I do have vol. experience. I vol. with a GSD rescue. I will only be in the rescue parade... so I will have lots of extra time and will be there for the whole event.
Yea Cindy & Guiness! :cheer: Hope we see lots of Rescue sheepies this year.

If you want to help the decorating committee, please PM me.
That's great Cindy! What a fun week you'll have meeting all those sheepies and their people. :D
I will be attending the show this year!! The speciality is a lot of fun, and I get a chance to see people I know from all across the country that I normally wouldn't get the chance to see at all.

There are over 100 OES entered this year from what I was told, and I'm excited. It's sheepdog heaven!!

I think I'm mostly excited to see the rescue parade!!! Go rescue, Go rescue!! I heard it's a sight to see.
Unfortunately I had to leave early last year and I missed out.

I look forward to meeting some new faces from the forum this year!

Take care

Michelina~
I'm going, I have told my husband he is going too (you can't believe all I have promised him to get him to go).

If we have a rescue dog at the time he will be going too -- it looks like we probably will have Sebastian and he will go and be in the parade -- so if you haven't seen an OES with a full tail this will be your opportunity.

Dixie OES Rescue with have a table of very cool items for sale and information on joining our group.

We will be helping out with the rescue parade on Friday afternoon. I talked to Karen Burdash on Saturday morning -- so far there is only 1 , yes that is correct, just 1 dog signed up for the parade.... It is not too late to sign up.

I plan to arrive on Wednesday and leave on Saturday we are driving from Ocala, FL.

I hope to meet many of you there.

Oh My 8O I emailed Karen to enter Guinness in the rescue parade. Am I the only one??. I thought there would be lots of rescue dogs!! he is growing out a very bad clip job, I thought he would just blend in with the others. All these georgous show sheepies will be there and poor Guinness with his hack job hair cut. I need to find a groomer that will even him out!! Know a groomer that does OES in Maryland? We are still looking forward to this event and meeting everyone!
We have a VERY good sheepie groomer in Richmond that I could recommend if you wanted to get him cut on your way down to Williamsburg...pretty close to the highway too (and there is a mall nearby so you could shop while you waited!)
Barney1
I will keep that in mind. THANK YOU I will see if there is someone closer this week. I have to see how I could work out the appt in Richmond in route. Guinness is still adorable but to be surrounded by all the show dogs YIKES!!
Just let me know...oh, and Richmond's about 40 minutes from Williamsburg, if you need timing.
That sounds like so much fun. I wish we were closer!
Alright people. I have acquired some very cool purple and gold cording that we can use to designate ourselves as forum members. There is enough to tie to your grooming table if you are showing, to your dogs if they are wandering about and to yourself if for some reason your keepers allow you out by yourself.
I will probably have the stuff with me. I may give it to Cindy to hand out depending on how busy she is. (She doesn't know it yet! )
So everybody be on the lookout for the other forum people!!!
I know now 8O ! Purple and gold how cool!! I will be happy happy happy to hand out ribbons !! I can't wait to meet everyone and this will be the ticket to meet everyone from the forum!!! I have to ask Guinness how he feels about purple and gold in his hair!!. Now all I need is a costume for the rescue parade. Nothing like waiting untill the last minute. See everyone there!!!!

Can anyone say DORK?

... just kidding, but not really!
I'm coming by the way! I'll be there with the annoying non-sheepdog.
I am very proud to be a nerd but a dork, NEVER!!!!

Besides, everybody said we should have done it last year so it is now taken care of. Keep it up there Verve and you'll be on dog walkin' duty!!!

That sounds more pleasant than BRUSHING duty!! At least you can do your girl dog on one day & the boy on the other!!

Oh, & I can wear my crushed velvet purple jacket if you want?!
Suzi's grooming needs are already being met. If you want to help groom Toby you are more than welcome to!! I'll have both of them on Thursday, Suzi in sweeps and Toby in the classes. Toby will need a buddy while I have Suzi in the ring so you can hang out and keep him company.

Purple, crushed velvet, sure!
I'll be there too -- with my husband and Sebastian, a big baby rescue boy with a tail..

Dixie OES Rescue will have a table. We will have exclusive Dixie tee shirts, sweat shirts, woven throws and Stacy's very cool crafts...

Please stop by to say hello...

Marie

P.S. I'm not sure how I am going to fit all of this stuff in the car...

You're not the only one with that problem, Marie. We may need to leave Nelson behind!!!
My husband offered to go on his motorcycle so he wouldn't take up space in the car...

My navigation system says it's a 16 hour drive -- so I think I would rather give Sebastian a smaller place to lay down (there is no room for a crate) and pack less clothes for myself than have to drive the whole thing myself.

 :clappurple: :go: :cheer:
Oh, how fun this is!! Please tell me someone will be a techie and be posting pictures as the event progresses. Val has us all spoiled, I know!

We WILL be at Michigan next year!!
I'm anxious to see the rescue booths and rescue parade this year as we missed some of last years events. I'm looking forward to meeting people from the forum...

Marie, I'll see you at the show and I get to meet Sebastian!!

Michelina~
How fun for all of you! Wish we could be there!
Have a great time you all, wish I could be there, lot's of pictures please :D
Lisa, the sooner that your National is over, the happier I will be!!!!! :o
It's being judged today Mandy, will post results when they come through and also when pictures come through if you like. :D

I'm awaiting too, have a few friends over there probably in the ring at this very moment. 8O
Are you not going? What's up with that?

Definitely post results and pics! Then you can tell us if Suzi's mom did a good job or not!
What are the times of the show? Like, could I come down after work or is it more a day thing? When are the important things going on? I want to go, but I can't take time off work
The only thing that really happens in the evening, show wise, is the Top Twenty competition. That will be Wedensday evening, I think 6:00? It's the biggest OES in the country (most points) the competitors wear black tie, spectators are dressy casual. There's a cash bar. It's actually very cool!
The problem is that you don't find out who wins until the banquet on Friday night.
Mandy and Deb, BIS was

NZCH Cobbity To Sir With Love (Imp Aust) .
Dam is Ch Tolkien Laura Baggins
Sire is Am.Can.Aust Gr Ch Raffles Ewe Sir Friendly(Imp Can)

Will PM you with full results when they are posted. :D

No I did not go, other side of Australia, too expensive to fly there this year and too far to drive.
Has anyone heard ANYTHING from ANYONE at the specialty?? :lmt:

I'm anxiously awaiting any news or pictures!! It's been terribly quite on that front. :excited:

Edit: Just saw the post in Brags & Birthdays!!
