Murphy in Fort MacMac

Well I'm thinking of getting Bunker a friend. Murphy is a 3 year old Male OES. Him and his sister were seized by the SPCA. They had spent the last little while in a pen. Molly was adopted this weekend by a couple in Calgary. He has no dominace issues with other females just unaltered males. He is at a rescue right now. When they took him to the groomer to be shaved down they found a harness underneath all of his fur. He's a big boy at 90 pounds. I'm really torn. I want this boy but I'm leary of taking on a rescue. Any advise?

Here his picture.

Is there anyone else interested in him? If not, maybe you could adopt him, and if you have problems ask them to rehome? If someone else wants him, maybe step back and wait for a dog you would feel 100% about?

A harness under his fur? Holy crap!!

He is definitely a cutie!!
I want him that's just it. I'm just nervous about having 2 dogs. My neighbor who loves Bunker is thinking about taking him too. Bunker hangs out at their house everyday when I get home from work. I will let everyone know what I decide to do.
He is beautiful!!!

My Murphy was a rescue...and I would do it again in a second...
He's cute! Both of mine came separately via rescue and I would absolutely do it again.
He is really cute, and I can't believe they found a harnass...poor guy.

Can you make an arrangment to trial run with him, considering you've had Bunker along time. She may not want to share. However he might be very sweet, and she could love having a playmate. Esp if he lived with a female, and she is good with your sister's dog.

Did you find out anything else about his health, what kind of environment was he seized from? Abusive, family, little kids hurting him, were they from a breeder mill???

Does he flinch when touched, or cower when approached, or any signs that would disqualify certain adopters...that might be a clue...no kids under a certain age...no other dogs, no men?? I've seen dogs up for adoption with restrictions like that.

Would they bring him to Edmonton, or do you have to go there?

From his picture he looks really nice, and happy...so I would take a chance, and see how it goes. 3 yrs is a good age too, young enough to adjust I think.

I'd consider him myself if we lived in a bigger place, like an acreage.

P.S any further on the flower mystery.
He's a happy go lucky boy. He wasn't beaten or anything just neglected. The guy says he's just a big clown!!! (Typical Sheepie). Loves other dogs, listens very well. I know I'm going to end up taking him.
That's awesome, then I would definetly give the boy a chance. I know you've been looking at a second dog for a long time.

Keep us updated. He sounds like a good match for Bunker, maybe a companion for Mike part time...LOL since he is close to dog park, south side.
He's SO beautiful and such a HAPPY boy!! :hearts: Ugh - I can't believe they found a harness UNDER his hair!! Poor baby!

My dogs have all been rescue and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Go for it!!! :cheer:
Going from one oes to two is an adjustment and things do change more than you think, but for me it was well worth it. For the first few months I kept thinking I made a big mistake, but over time I grew to love the rescue and things are going smoothly now. They both however still want all the attention. There are no more hanging out on the couch because if one gets up they both get up and compete to see who will get petted. He looks like a beautiful boy. If you do decide to take him, understand that the first month it may feel tough, but overtime it gets easier going from one to two. Good luck
He looks like a sweetie, maybe you could do a trial period, foster him for a bit and if all goes well then officially adopt him?
Going from 1 sheepie to 2 sheepies takes adjustment but it isn't bad. But we had an alpha male (Sheepie #1) and we brought home another alpha male (Sheepie #2).

Go for it.

I want another sheepie for Patch - she just loves dogs (and people) and would love to have a companion. But, I am like you - I do not know if I could handle two. I sheepie sat for a friend for 5 weeks and loved it - and Patch especially loved it. BUT, I do not have a fenced in yard so it was a job walking one then the other, expecially in the rain - that was not easy. I go back and forth on it all the time. Patch is a rescue, so I know if I got another it would be another rescue. Good luck with Murphy.
He looks like an absolute darling - how can he have such a happy face when he's been in such a terrible situation? :( I would talk to the rescue and tell them your wants and your concerns. They will understand, but if he's good with your dog I think it could be a great decision. Rescue pups love you soooo much. :hearts: Good luck in your decision!
Sheepie 2 - why didn't you walk them both together? I walk all 3 of our sheepies at the same time. I am assuming when Marcus gets here - I will walk all 4 at the same time. (I will get a picture of that for all of you. )

That's a very good reminder. I also questioned my decision in the first few weeks after I brought Maggie home. But now. . . :hearts:
Some dogs are really hard to walk with another dog beside them. Remy is hard to walk alone, I always chose to walk separately so they could get the most of their one on one time with me.

But somedays walking two is what you have to do. I found it difficult to pick up the poo, and the tangling of lines, and oh my if we met up with anyone.
When I adopted China, my Aussie Shepherd, I was not in the market for another dog at the time. I had Violet, my OES, who was about 15 months old and a dream of a pup. She was so easy going and never a potty mistake. (we always have a doggy door). She was more fun then work. Puppies are adorable, but a lot of work. I also have Pearl my cat that at the time was about 9 years old. My friend bred her Aussie Female and male and had a beautiful litter of 9 pups. I was with her when the pups where all born and I helped with what I could. (So I was lucky to hold China as soon as she was born). Anyway, my friend decided that I needed one of Angel and Barley's pups. I really did have second thoughts of having a puppy and having two dogs and a cat. I thought about it for 8 weeks, going back and forth should I or shouldn't I. Well, you know the drill, I fell in love with China and everything has worked out with Violet and Pearl and I can't imagine my life without my two dogs and one cat. Everytime someone in the forum post a picture of their new puppy I have to talk myself out of getting a new OES pup. I don't know how long I can hold out though! lol. I got Violet as a rescue at 9 months old. I found that the two dogs entertain each other. I also take them out on walks together. I tried taking one at a time, but the other would stand in the picture window and bark the whole while we where gone. So for the sanity of my neighbors and my family, I walk them together. They do very well. I have one on my right side and one on my left side and never let either get ahead of me. (mind you, I am only 5' tall). So far so good. I did have an insident about two years ago when they pulled me down in the street, but it has not happened since.

Good luck with your decision, it is a hard one to make.

My experience is a little different. I find 2 easier than 1 (right now I have 4 dog/babies but have had twice that number in the past). They keep each other company and have a playmate when I'm at work. I did put a second sofa in my den so we all have a place to watch t.v. I would certainly recommend giving it a try!!!!! I'll always have more than 1 baby. I figure I have 2 hands and 2 feet so everybody can get a rubbing at the same time if they want  Good luck

I'm getting Murphy!!!! I think my neighbor is going to take him. If not Bunker either way is getting a new playmate.
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo hoo! :)
Hooray for Murphy and Bunker! Can't wait to hear how the first meeting goes!
Wow! How exciting! I can't wait to hear how everything goes!

I was afraid I'd get pulled two ways with two dogs - they are both well behaved, but all it takes is a roaming cat or squirrel and it could get to be a situation.
well We went and picked up Murphy today. 7 hous total driving, 1 hours shaving and a bath. He is just great. He listens better than Bunker while being shaved. He knows how to sit, shake a paw and he is a dream in the car. He laid down the entire way home. We stopped and he went pee on command. I'm phone the vet monday to mke the appointment to get him fixed. He's a dream (so far). The only thing I dont like is that he lifts his leg and marks everythng. I took a bunch of pics of Bunker and Him. I will post them later. Bunker and him get along great as ong s he is not trying to violate her. SHe puts him in his place. I'll keep everyone post on Murphy.
I can't wait to see pics of Bunker and Murphy! :excited:
He sounds wonderful!
Terrific update! I am so glad it is going so well. You are off to a great start! Hooray for Murphy!!
That is wonderful - he'll have a changed life for sure! Can't wait to see pictures!
HE slept thru the night. No accidents. He never leaves the lino. Whoever had him when he was a pup spent a lot of time with him. He listens so well.
That is great! Now we need pictures! pictures!
Congratulations! He's adorable!! :hearts: Are Elton and Lynette your neighbors? Are they keeping Murphy or are you? Either way, he's just too cute for words! How did he come to be homeless?
The story of Murphy is his sister and himself were supposedly brought over from Scotland about 4 years ago. They were living with a lady up in Fort McMurray. She started to neglect Molly and Murphy. They were put in a pen and not paid any attention. Food was dumped into the pen by the bag. The groomer who was grooming them at the beginning would drive by all of the time and eventually started to pester the SPCA to take these dog. They said as long as they have food, water and shelter there is nothing we can do. The Groomer pestered for about 3 years. Finally the owner (who had become and addict) walked into the grooomer one day on her way out of town and said "I heard someone wanted my dogs?". She said yep, the owner signed a release form and she handed them over. The Groomer shaved them down (Murphy had a harness on underneath all of his hair, and Molly's butt was so matted she couldn't poop). They went to Randy who has a raises sled dogs. Molly was adopted 2 weeks ago and Uncle Pete then contacted me about Murphy. As soon as I saw him I couldn't not take him. Elton and Lynette love Bunker (she hangs out there every day for an hour when I get home) and they wanted another dog. They had to put their Bull Mastiff down 2 years ago. . So Elton and I drove up Saturday. As soon as I saw him, I was in love. He is a big boy, he's got about 4 inches on Bunker (Bunkie is still wider thought  ). He slept the entire way home, we shaved him down and Bathed him. He has the best disposition of a dog I have ever seen. He listens great, a gentle giant. He may have been abused a bit cuz Elton says when you hold your hand or an object above your head he cowers. Elton and Lynette love him to pieces as well as everone else who sees him. I'm in love with him too as well as my entire family. We will definately keep everyone updated on Murphy.  I feel so good about rescuing him.
He's a very handsome boy!! Thank you, so much, for rescuing him!!!
He is adorable, I am so glad he is working out. Now who is keeping him, or are you sharing???
We're sharing. He really love to follow Bunker around. He grew up with his sister so Bunker and Murphy will be together a lot. I'm so happy that I made the decision I did. I feel so good.
What a great story. I love your pictures - he looks like a happy boy.
Well, where do I start?

My name is Elton and I recently adopted Murphy. Our beloved Layla passed away a few years ago, and I was not sure if I was ever going to replace Layla in my heart. Murphy has showed me that I can replace but not forget. I absolutely love him and for some strange reason he has some of Laylas mannerisms, which brings me to believe that she is and always will be a part of us.

Murphy has been a blessing and we have alot of love to give him. We can finally take my own dog for walks, bring him along for drives in the car, and show him off to others (but he has that covered because he loves the camera).

I would like to know What happened to Molly, Murphy's sister? I'm sure he will always have her in his heart. Where ever you are Molly, Murphy is in great hands and we wish the same for you.

In conclusion We would like to thank everyone who assisted in bringing us together. There is no way that we will ever be able to repay you. I'm sure that Murphy thanks you too.

Quote: Love will find a way and fate will lead you on!!I BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE.
And they lived happily ever after........... :D
Welcome to the forum, Elton, glad you got together with Murphy!

I look forward to reading about your lives together, and of course, pics!

THANK YOU for rescuing a sheepdog in need!
This is wonderful! Welcome to the forum Elton, Lynette and Murphy!!! :D
Wow! What a great story!! I really am moved close to tears! Glad that Bunkie has a new best friend and Murphy has a companion to make him feel a little less lonely!

I definately need to see more pictures!
The best of all possible worlds - one dog has been rescued and now two dogs share a great new friendship!! Congratulations, and thank you SO much for adopting Murphy!!
Welcome Elton, now we have a new friend. Looking forward to Murphy stories.
well, I posted Murphys first pics on my Photo Gallery.Check them out. When we first brought him to our home we noticed that he had a collar that was welded together so we couldnt take it off. A neighbour brought some cutters and I had to CUT the collar off. I just dont know how people could neglect such an innocent animal. He was happy to get that removed because it absolutely STUNK. He is doing very well and we walk him in a near by park everyday.I forgot to mention that we neutered him on Wednesday and he is doing good.

Until next time.....
What good pictures of Murphy. I especially like the one with his head in the grass looking at you. He looks so happy and fun. It looks like he has always been with you.
What a handsome sheepie Murphy is. I see he has the blue/brown eye like my Violet. He looks like he is really enjoying himself in the grass.
Congradulation,
Helen Mom to Violet (OES) China (Aussie Shepherd) Pearl (Cat)
Oh, another sheepie with one blue/one brown eye, just like my Drez!! :hearts: He really is a beautiful boy, and so happy!
He is gorgeous!

Gorgeous! I don't know who is luckier, you or Murphy. Good luck to you both.
Hi,

I love happy endings and enjoyed reading about Murphy. He is very lucky to have found a wonderful home and loving parents. Something about Murphy reminds me of Panda, especially the first two photos in the gallery. Perhaps it's the happy sparkle in the eyes knowing they are loved.

Good luck and best wishes to you all.

Marianne and the boys
Somehow, I checking on the progress of Murphy. I am so very happy that you have given him a wonderful home. Everyone looks very, very happy.
He is gorgeous!
Welcome to the forum Elton and Lynette!
