Speaking of Cats ;)

Our new cat, KoKo is having a little issue. She tends to poop in her litter box and then JET FULL BLAST like a mad monkey as soon as it starts coming out ...leaving a trail ALL over. Then after she's done her business (just poop), she is super hyper for the next 5 minutes. Hitting everyone (in a playful manner), trying to climb the wall (she's nuts), and usually doing laps around the entire house.

What she does after it... of course, doesn't bother us. It's hilarious...
It's the pooping on the floor.

I've heard... when the litter box is too small for the cat, they won't go in it.
I've heard... when the litter box is full.
... when another cat is using it

Well, none of these apply. It's not that she isn't using it, she does. She just starts RUNNING as soon as it's coming out. That in itself isn't the main problem... I'm okay with that because I can see that she started in the litter box, so I don't sweat it. It's the few times she poops randomly on the floor. It's always not far from the litter box (same room), but I just don't get it.

Last time we went to the vets (prob early Jul). She has that feline herpes, but outside of that... she's very healthy. The herpes only clouding her eye.. nothing related to bathroom problems ...that I know of.

any advice? :)

I should mention she does poop in the box. It's just a hit or miss with her.

This is the friend's cat you took in? Did she have this problem with them?

Interesting anyways.

If our cats missed the box it was because their backend was not actually in the box but on the edge.

Does she have her very own litter box?

Is her hair too long in the butt, causing it to pull there while she trys to go...maybe a trim is needed? I am assuming she is the one with long hair.

Other than that, I have no idea. Amy will still pee on my stuff, in our bathroom if she has something to say. Once she is happy we don't see it for awhile. Our vet said she was doing it on purpose...I didn't think they do that.
Thankfully...she pees in it. She pees in the other cat's litter box too. Our other cat does not use her box though. She does have long hair, and I never thought to trim her butt, so it's worth a try. However, it doesn't explain the few times she's pooped randomly in the room. If she's unhappy, that would make me so sad esp. considering where she came from. It was a family of 3 living in a one bedroom apt the size of our master bedroom. She was being fed food that made her have bad gas (never even HEARD of this brand). Now this cat has FREEDOM and playmates. She lovessssss our small dog, loves the baby (comes to him whenever he cries), likes the other cat, and tolerates Yuki (she'll walk to yuki and swat her just for looking at her..lol, so she's definitely not afraid of her).
I'm sure it isn't related to being unhappy. She just sounds extremely excited by it! Most cats that grew up with their mom for a while automatically 'get' the litter box thing, covering, etc. Others may not have had that experience (or are just different) and don't do everything as expected. One of our cats, Glacier, just turned two this summer and JUST learned how to cover her poo. She used to try scraping everything and anything around the litter without touching the actual litter - minutes of scraping the walls, etc. She finally seems to be 'getting it' now. Soooo I wish I had better advice. . .
I am so glad things are working out with taking her in. Esp her getting along with the other animals.

When Amy (who is 7 yrs) started peeing in other places, it was very frustrating for us to figure it out. We went from 2 litterboxes to 3. We make sure to buy the same litter, some don't like change in texture.

We were asked by the vet about new stress, new animals, other life things causing her routine to be disrupted...nothing new in our lives. Her medical side was all normal, infact very healthy.

So it came down to behavioural, we could try feliaway...a spray to stop them from going in the same place. Otherwise make sure she has a clean litterbox...and sorry =(

The vet then also said she is trying to communicate with you, by chosing my stuff to pee on. For awhile it was really bad because I wouldn't let her sleep with me, but once I let her in again she stopped...go figure.

Now we don't see any "accidents", except for while we were camping and gone longer than expected. But it has been alot better.

Hopefully KOKO gets past this, and better at using the litterbox...maybe add another one in a different area. Our cats have a room all to themselves under the stairs, we cut a cat door in the reg door. Cats can go through but not the dogs.
Are her stools firm? Maybe if they're a little loose she just doesn't want to get any on her? Also if she has hair in her stools it may feel to her like it's not out all the way LOL I've seen my cat do that. A hairball formula cat food usually solves that problem. (they don't necessarily have to be hacking up hairballs to have a hairball problem)
Nope :(

Their firm, and she's on Iam's Hairball formula (by accident really since I meant to grab the orange regular bag for adult cats).

The vet think she just found a spot she likes to poop (past two days it's been on our DRESSER!!!!!!!!). She thinks that if she was sick, her stool would be more runny ...like you said.

No answer for why she poops and runssssssss for it ...al the other times. the confusing part for the vet was that she pees in there and at least 70% of the time poops in her box. Otherwise, she also suggested it could be the texture of the litter.

I hate thta we have a cat that has problems with the litter box. lol Wish she had a problem climbing things or something like that. 8)

8O Oh my...my sympathies for you. I hope you figure it out, this must be frustrating esp because it's a hit and miss.

Sorry I haven't been much help, we still have to deal with Amy...but it has gotten alot better and hubby has given her a second chance...he was about to return her to spca...it was that bad.
We have one cat that has poop that ends up on the other side of the litter box sometimes. At first I thought it was because I accidentally left the bpx dirty for too long, but then she did it once right after I cleaned it, so I ruled that out. She has long hair, so I figure just sometimes it gets caught and somehow just falls off after she's out.
I don't think she's done it on purpose, so I'm no help there, but you have my sympathies!
I know a lot of cat soiling out of the litterbox issues are solved by temproarily confining the cat to a small room, like a bathroom, so that it "re learns" cleaner litterbox habits. Cats are usually fastidious about their surroundings and themselves, so if she knows she has to stay fairly close to whatever mess she makes my guess is she will choose to keep it in the box and cover it so she doesn't have to smell it.
Maybe a week or two of keeping her in a smaller room....

I think that's what I'll try!

I'm also going to write her previous owner to see if she had the same problem there.

LOL -- My cat Miles used to do that! I always figured that my prissy boy simply didn't want to touch dirty stuff. It always made me smile.
