Eye booger clean-up?!!!!

I need to talk to some experienced "eye-booger-getter-outters" if that is the official title?!  I know with Mopsey and Prissy it really wasn't a big deal - I just used my hands and cleaned them up every afternoon. But Bingley's are usually soft and he is so squirmy!!! How should I get his eye boogers? Tricks?!

My dogs clean up each other's eye boogers, I rarely have to do anything about them at all. LOL (yuck!)
I can't stand them. At least twice a day, I'm at Yuki's eye. No tricks though. :D Just get them out! :)

When Mr. J drove to Alaska from TX, he forgot to get them. So when Yuki came to our new house, I immediately checked her and she had a string of eye boogers going all the way down her face. I gave my husband the "look" then pulled it off (all dry ones).

No matter how many times you remind guys to do something......... 8)

He told me he forgot b/c all he saw was a dog with hair in her face 8O
Yucko, best way especially if it is a squishy one is Toilet paper or a tissue, you can get a hold of the moist booger then gentle pull it out from the corner of the eye  The TP absorbs those wet ones as you remove it.

Or you can be like Darcy  and do it that way, ha ha ha, sorry darcy but that drawing still cracks me up big time

I'm loving these responses but I have to say I think your avatar is DARLING!!!

Thanks everyone - keep 'em coming!
Make it into a pleasant expereince for him.

I have always likes to have my dogs used to a massage. Even from a very young age, a puppy LOVES to be rubbed.

Get Bingley so he will stay nice and still for a massage. This is not a forced massage, but just catch him at quiet times and just rub him gently, but firmly all over his body. If he starts to squirm you stop.
He will learn to really enjoy this and it will make him relax. This is how you can get him used to having his feet rubbed, and his neck and ears handled.

When he is having his massage you work your way up to his face and rub his muzzle, and under his neck, and then the sides of his face, and voila! You are in "eye booger" territory.

Bosley comes over for a face rub quite often so I am forever removing boogers. And Dixie LOVES being handled, so just leans right into me while I rub her face.

Hope this helps.

This always cracks me up! Especially because somehow the drawing was a picture of Darcy but it's actually ME who picks the eye boogers while sitting on the toilet! Speaking of which, where is Tove?
Stacy, I do it to! AND it makes perfect sense .. the tp is right there!
It's actually funny cause in the beginning the dogs hate it when you clean their eyes, but after a while, it really becomes sort of a bonding thing. It's like a little personal moment where you connect with them and make them more comfortable. It may sound silly, but both my dogs love it when I clean their eyes, cause then following it, they get a big kiss on the nose and an "I love you"
hehe
I use a q-tip. Place at the base of the eye / boogie and twist the q-tip. I usually have to use both sides of a q-tip, and one per eye, but it works great. It also soaks up the tears that are created during the process. Plus this way you don't have to stick your dirty fingers in their eye!

Hope that helps.

Not as disgusting as scaling teeth but removing eye-boogers is certainly distasteful. I'm going to disagree with those who use toilet paper, Q-tips and other "swipes" because these generally smear the booger over the surrounding muzzle or face area (depending on direction that you swipe). I have found a very fine tooth comb works best. It catches all the crusty boogers with virtually no smearing of the fresh soft ones. Very carefull placement of the comb's tines at the tear duct and then carefully drawing the comb through the booger does the trick well for me.

Avoiding smearing the eye boogers also virtually eliminates the pink staining on the hair that can develop near the tear duct. I also think that this is faster and less invasive than any swipe methodology so that also helps if the Bobtail gets "squirmy" about the procedure. If you do get pink staining then #1 All Systems Whitening Gell can be used to vbery good effect in this area as it can be applied accurately and will not run into the eye once applied.

Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl

Me too... I use a flea comb. Two careful swipes and the eye-boogers are gone.

Gotta get that out of the back of the closet...
Obviously Carl doesn't have longer fingernails. I'm not talking talons, just a slight extension is perfect for getting under the goop and lifting carefully. Of course crusties pop right off.
Ok, I will admit to doing the "toilet time eye booger removal". George always follows me to the bathroom. He will sit so perfectly still, lay his muzzle on my knees, and let me get the boogies. I am beginning to think he believes that this is what the toilet time is for. He doesn't get nearly as many eye boogies as when he was younger. When we first got him, he would get streaks from the boogies, but now he just gets a couple of boogies, instead of a steady supply. :D
