New at oes.org- The oes.org Community Shopping Experience

Hi everyone! Is it time to shop yet? When it is, think.... SHOP.OES.ORG!

That's right. Now when you really have that urge to spend all of your cash (with Amazon.com), and don't necessarily want to just send it to your favorite webmaster  you can try our new BETA (that means, NOT done yet!) Shopping Experience! Woo Hoo!

OK, why do I call it a Shopping Experience? Well first off because it's NOT DONE YET. Right now it's just a conglomeration of everything that is available... I haven't figured out how to show just the important products, and it's bound to change even while you're looking at it. Some Experience! Also, This is only a test from Amazon.com so they might discontinue this program, but I doubt that. So there you have it.

Anything that you purchase through this store will be credited to oes.org for a commission; so while you're shopping, you're also supporting your fave fab forum.

Check it out at http://shop.oes.org

Check out the magazine section; in there, I've limited all the magazines to having the keyword "dog" in them. I've also included all of the sub categories so you can look through the rest.
so if you were to click on "Magazines" in the left hand navigation section, it should change and show you all of the sub-categories of magazines on the left, but in the right you should see only dog related mags. If you click on any of the subcategories (like "Pets"), you should see all of the magazines in Pets, with no restrictions.

If you have a suggestion as to what should go on the fron page of the store, that would be a good thing too!

PLEASE let me know what you think. PLEASE. If you don't want to post it publicly, drop me a PM or an email.

THANKS for being there for oes.org.

Just in time for the upcoming holiday shopping season!! Plus I love supporting organizations with a good cause. Looks good!!
Just in time for my purchase of a fancy GPS unit!!
OK, having tried it (successfully!), I would recommend having the search box default to search the whole site instead of making me identify which category to search. If that is possible, that would be easier.
I wish this had been around last weekend when I bought two CD's off amazon. :?
Wooohooo!!!

I got all excited and thought it would make my xmas shopping more fun, plus benefit oes.org.... but it won't from me because I'm in Canada :(

Unless I get someone in the states to order it for me and have it shipped to me... hmmmmm... that might work.
Very cool, Ron! You rock!
Yay Ron! shopping at my favorite forum... hahahaha! You may never get me out of here now

Not only is it not the default, but it's currently impossible to search all categories! I have passed along that suggestion and a few others to Amazon.

8O You can always just click on any Amazon link here at the forum and then go shopping at Amazon and everything you put into your cart (within 24 hours and then go on to purchase within a month) will be credited to oes.org.

Anyway, I hope it's fun -- and remember: Buy it only if it's the best deal for you! It's not worth it for you to spend extra money to have oes.org earn a few cents. Thanks.
Can you ship to the UK ? I couldn't see a shipping policy on there - I'mnot being picky ... honest

Looks good !!
No, it only works for US residents... sorry.

But Amazon.co.uk is available to you! :D
Cool!!! I'm going to have to go for the Rolex!!
Great job! As Arnold says, "I'll be back!"

Unless I overlooked it I didn't notice any links for pet products, other than the books and magazines.

Front page:
How about a photo of a sad looking rescue dog with the Sheepdog rescue link, and a happy looking OES with the OES Community Forum link. Kind of like a "from this - to this" sort of thing. That "your purchases" help fund dah dah dah............ sort of thing.

Just me thinkin' again.
Thanks Ron, when I'm ready to holiday shop, this will help. Got a funny though, I clicked "Musical Instruments" expecting french horns, tubas, etc. Nope, in today's world "musical instruments" means memory sticks and ear phones
Unfortunately, the store is 99 44/100% controlled by Amazon.com and is not very flexible, at least not yet. The most I can do with it is control the color scheme, and put a frame around it, which I've done so that the address is easy to remember.

As far as what products are available, I have initially made everything available, but I can reduce what is available by removing categories and restricting the to ensure that a particular keyword is present, like "Dog".

If you click on "Magazine Subscriptions" you'll notice that only mags with a keyword of "Dog" (associated with it by either the publisher or Amazon, I'm not sure which) show up, but I've also included all of the subcategories of magazines, and inside those I did not restrict it by keyword of "Dog". Unfortunately, I can only have one store, at least during this trial period) otherwise I could/would have several variants each narrowly defined to show only certain products.

If this is a pleasant thing for people, I can create a customized store that can do more things, but it would take a couple of months of work probably, and I doubt that the commissions are really there to justify that kind of exertion of energy! LOL

If someone orders a $10,000 GPS system everyday, I might change my mind. wink wink...

Thanks for looking and for the feedback so far!!!

Keep feeding back! I'm passing them along to Amazon.
Hey Jill, when you click the DVD tab the first thing to come up is Lost Season 2!!!!
I think it's a hint!
Okay, question.
When I searched for something it said that the item is not available for purchase from this store. I could still be redirected to Amazon to look at it and it still had the oes.org frame. Does that mean that if I purchase it at that point oes.org will get credit?
I think I'm going to loose my nerd card because I can't figure this out!

When you go to a category, it uses any history you have with amazon.com to put up products in which you might be interested. Sooo, everybody's experience will probably be different.

Except the front page, where I get to select the "Featured Items."*

Perhaps you've already looked at Lost items at Amazon before?

*Anyone notice any interesting "Featured Items?" *cough* *cough*
