Okay, so the hubby has me completely stumped on this one. We always plant and "put up" purple hull peas every year, but he added a little something new for me this year. He and a friend opened a bag of dried pinto beans (straight from the supermarket), poured them in the garden and covered them up. We had no idea that they would come up, but boy did they ever. So, we harvested the beans yesterday and I shelled them. Now comes the dilemma, what in the heck do I do with them? I have only had them dried. My Mom seems to think I should be able to put them up like I do my beans. I have no clue. Anybody?
If they are still thin green pods, they are edible green beans....not my favorite, pick them young. If the beans are mature but not dry, cook them as you would any shelled beans. Otherwise, let they dry to brown pod and shell them dry.
