water dog or sheep dog????

Rosie is a 6 month old OES that moved into our hearts and home just last week. (Her pictures are in the "pictures" forum)

In talking with the previous owner I asked about bathing her - she said Rosie tolerated her baths but loved the garden hose......

OH MY GOSH!!!!!! SHE WASN'T KIDDING!!!!!

I was putting fresh water in the dog bowls outside with the garden hose. she went balistic - - trying to bite the water...
I then pointed the steam of water out into the yard and proceeded to laugh myself silly for the next 20 minutes (don't want to see the water bill) - as she ran and jumped and played in the water like nothing I've ever seen before. She didn't seem to show any signs of wearing down so I finally turned the water off - - she walked up on the porch and plopped down......... soaking wet and dirty - - but very, very happy.

Now she is having a fit cuz DH is in the driveway washing his truck with - you guessed it - the water hose and she can't get to him........
She is whining and scratching at the gate - - I just hope he doesn't give into her and get her all wet and muddy again - I'm not up for another bath tonight.............

I have got to try to get video..... I'm sure Am. Funniest Videos or Animal Plant would pay LOTS of $$$ for something of this quality and talent - - :P :clappurple: ARE YOU ALL LAUGHING!!!!!!! (I'm really kidding you know?)

Does anyone else have a part waterdog sheepie????

WONDERFUL!!!!! I love water dogs - my Border Collies that I grew up with were like that and although I don't expect Bingley to be I secretly hope he will love the water!!!
Yep, big time. When Drez was younger and we would put the hose out to water the lawn, she would run up to the sprinkler and grab it in her mouth, dripping water out of both sides of her mouth! And if given the choice of a fresh bowl of water or a drink from the hose, she'll take the hose every time!! And she's a FOOL for the pool!! Absolutely LOVES it!!

Now if only she would love her bath as much . . .
I've had 2 sheepdogs that have loved, loved, loved the hose! The only thing I would say would be to make sure there are times when you make her sit and stay or be some sort of calm when the hose is running. If not, you'll get behavior like you've seen when your DH is washing the truck, the nonstop, I've got to have it thing.

Congrats on your pup!
Jasper loves the water too. All I have to do is say Jasper, bath and he runs and jumps in the bathtub. He takes over the kids' pool when we're outside too. :) It's great having one that loves the water, makes bathtime much easier!
yup panda is a hose puppy too! play for hours if i let her..just like you said, biting the water, running and jumping through it...lol
Rosie is adorable! Congrats on the new addition to your family. She sounds like she is so much fun and fitting in well.
I no longer have a hose for Daisy to play with, but last summer when she was just 4-6 mos old, she hated the hose. Loves the water and will go swimming any chance she gets, but hated the hose.

Baths are now just ok, if she has to she'll tolerate it, but give her a chance to get in and swin and watch out.
ALL of mine do/did love sprinklers and hoses. My first dog Merlin would run from sprinkler head to sprinkler head on the campus where we walk him, flopping down, paw on either side of the sprinkler head, gulping water, then he'd pop up, run to the next. When he had his fill, he'd look for nicely dressed people, preferably wearing white.

Archie still loves the sprinkler or just water from the hose. He (and Merlin before him) will come to the back yard, nosing around to see if I have the hose on watering plants. If I don't, he'll remind me, lol. Sophie and Sherman love sprinkers and water hoses, too. In fact, Sophie loves flowing water so much that she splashes in her water dish (and all the water dishes), turning our kitchen into a lake, despite the 'no splash' design (hah!) BTW, suggestions? Actually, this is settling down.

They aren't nearly so wild about the wading pool or baths (frequent necessity after playing in a sprinkler and then tearing around with the pitbull puppy who comes over to play.)

Hosers, eh?

Charlie loves the water hose but hates the pool! We've put him in the pool a couple of times just to make sure he can get out if he were to fall in. I guess we're lucky that he won't jump into the pool on his own (yet). He just runs around the edge barking at us in the water!
Mine aren't allowed near a hose 8O

Too much to clean up and dry afterwards 8)
Mojo will play in the hose forever. He jumps and tries to catch it. He'll put his face in it, just loves getting sprayed down.
Putting him in the tub is another story. You would think it was a different dog. He knows when it is bath time and will go hide. Have to bribe him to come out. He walks around puddles and wouldn't go never the creek at the park either.
Click my camera, second row on the right. Problem is we've been having so much rain (for our area) that MO hasn't had a chance to take her "bath" for awhile.

Only wish the other dogs would participate in this bathing ritual.....they are getting stinky.
Hi,
Just take a look at Dory's Picture...Need I say more?!...

Cheers~
Martha thinks the hose is the most wonderful thing in the world! Our nearby carwash has a pet wash also, and that is a lot of fun. You put your money in just like the car wash, put her up on the table, and turn the dial from "wash" to "rinse", "condition", "dry", etc. She loves going there, but it is hard to keep her from drinking the soapy water. She also tries to bite the air coming out of the hose during "dry".
