shampoo and conditioner

This is a question for the people who "show" their dogs. What is the brand name of the shampoo, conditioner, and whiteners do you use on your shaggies? Do detanglers really work?

There is a lot of good brands on the market in Shampoos and Whiteners, it is trial and error as to what is best for your sheepie. Some good ones are E-Z Groom crystal Whitening Shampoo. Good Stain remover is #1 All Systems Whitening Gel. Both products do a wonderful job, but are time consuming as both products need to be applied and left on for 8-10 minutes then washed off.

Detanglers can actually cause more problems in the greys of the coat as they soften the area and take away the texture causing more matting.

Wash the whites on a regular basis then wash all over only on occassions.
Too much washing all over causes more matting, especially in the greys.

When grooming just put a 1/2 capful of conditioner into a water bottle, fill the bottle with water and mist as you brush the layers that keeps the greys cleaner and smelling good till you are ready for the occassional all over wash. :D

Hope this helps a bit.
Thank you so much for your suggestions. I did not realise the problems of the grey in her coat, that is where the tangle problems are when she does have that problem. Now I know why. I will try your suggestions, thank you. I usually take her to the groomers once a month and wash her myself two weeks after she is groomed because she usually needs it. I do comb her out everyday or at the least everyother day. I have not tryed the detangler as of yet.

Thank you again for all of your suggestions.

No problems, hope the coat settles down a bit for you.

The above mentioned products are for the whites only! If you want to wash her all over then get a good oatmeal based dog shampoo or a dog shampoo for textured coats, that will help not soften the greys too much and should help with keeping the texture in the coat. Also if you are bathing her allover on the odd occassion make sure she is completely matt free as bathing with knots only tightens them and makes it harder to de-matt.

My post, the third in the thread

gives a series of links to shampoo posts. They discuss individual shampoos and general use guidelines which I think will help you along.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl thank you so much for all of the information you alerted me to regarding shampoos and whiteners. I will be trying them soon. I have used "human" hair shampoo on Violet and China many times and was really pleased with the results. The "helpful hint" regarding peroxide really makes sense. Anyway, thank you so much for heading me in the right direction.
