Panda had a visit from his Grandparents!

Hey Everyone,

I previously mentioned that I got an email from Panda's first owner, whom mentioned her parents would be arriving from Hong Kong. They really wanted to see Panda as did her aunts and uncle whom would be with them.

The whole gang arrived at my house to visit and what a joy it was to see. It was obvious that Panda did indeed remember his "Chinese Grandparents" and also obvious how much they loved him". They knew him as a pup but had not seen him for many years but had heard through their daughter and photos I've sent of him of his Canadian adventures.

Bringing gifts of toys for him and one for me, I can't wait to be sent their photos as my old camera only managed to take five photos.

If you click on my photo icon at the bottom of my page you can see Panda with his relatives.

One thing that was so sweet is he resorted to puppy-like behavior when he saw them...often rolling on his back for belly rubs and giving lots of kisses. He ran to the window when they left and watched them leave. I wonder what went on in his mind? No need for jealousies on my part either, as his mom it was just a pleasure to watch how they showered him with affection. They didn't even seem to mind that after I took them outside in the backyard to show off Panda's bouncy ball skills, he then jumped in my fishpond. Okay so not everyone wanted him on their laps after but he gave everyone a big laugh.

Great pics! :)
Looks like a happy reunion :)
I didn't have a chance yet to read the other thread you made, but that is so nice of you to let them into your home, and so coooooool of them to want to come see Panda!!!! I love the pictures. They look so happy to see her, but I'm sure they're more happy to know she is taken care of by a wonderful person!

It's really a hard concept for my Asian relatives to get (including my mother) why Americans like dogs as pets (the BIG ones)! In their generation, not many people had big dogs as pets, just guard dogs. I just love how pets are so popular now although it still makes many older people cringe, I still send them photos of our dogs ;)
That's so great!! What a happy reunion. It is remarkable that Panda remembered them. I guess I am confused, though, with all of that love from so many people, how did Panda end up getting bounced around and at risk of being PTS in a shelter? I read the posts in the past, but I don't remember how the grandparents fit into that story. In any event, it must be wonderful for them to see how happy Panda is. And it must have been adorable to see Panda acting like a puppy. :D
How nice that they visited with you and Panda!
I cannot believe that Panda remembered them.
He must have liked them.
You have so much to be proud of with your progress with him.
I bet you really enjoyed Panda showing off for them. :D
It's always nice when we can show our babies off. Glad you had a chance for a happy and good visit with Panda's grandparents and friends.
Panda truly was in his own heaven! And his "grandparents" looked so happy to see him. What a great day it must have been!!
Hi,

The first year of Panda's life he was truly loved by his original owner, Lena, and her parents. Lena accepted a job in Hong Kong and as most of the population in that city lived in apt buildings - Panda had to remain on the rooftop of the building. Her parents knew him when he was a puppy and were genuinely fond of him and I think Lena still lived at home for the first few months of his life. When she accepted the job in the city, the grandparents felt they couldn't keep him due to his jumping on him and his other habits as he grew bigger as due to his size he could accidently harm them.

It was my understanding that Lena and her b/f then broke up and neither could find a place that would allow a dog, let alone a big hairy one. Thus began Panda's long history of unfortunate events and owners..going through six of them in a short period, being obviously mistreated by some of them, eventually ending up at the shelter, deemed aggressive and given a death sentence. That was in year two and three for him. He arrived at my home at 3 1/2 years.

The culture towards large dogs is different in that country as Joahaeyo mentioned, and most can't understand Western culture and their affection for dogs. Keeping a large dog in a household is very unusual.
Both grandparents couldn't stop patting Panda and playing with him during the two hours of their visit and perhaps due to their Western ties understood how people feel about dogs in North America. Two of the Grandma's sisters live in Canada! How ironic is that? Their English was very good but Panda also understood when they spoke Chinese to him..offering different paws to them when asked. Grandpa also demonstrated how Panda would walk by his side when he was little...and Panda did it!

He greeted the other people but it was obvious all of his attention was focused on the "grandparents" which was very endearing. It really was a great day and they expressed their gratitude that Panda is loved at my home. All of us enjoyed the day.

This is just too much for my tear ducts...
That's great, Marianne! I bet they were happy to see that Panda remembered them. :)
That's so great. I just love the happy ending of this story. Maybe it will help the other culture to see how important dogs are to others. And how much trouble one will go to on a dog's behalf.
What a great reunion!! :D
That's so wonderful Marianne! What a colorful guy Panda boy is! It was so interesting to see his original chinese family! What were they int he country for, besides to see Panda.

that's amazing!
That is just amazing and wonderful! Love is definately about sharing, not jealousy...Panda boys story is an inspiration...and Panda girl wants to know how good of a tutor Panda boy is.....you know, second languages are in demand and are an eye catcher....
Hi,

As Vancouver has direct flights over the Pacific, we have many visitors in the city from Asia...granted it's 12 hr flights. Like Panda's grandparents whom are doing this today, many take cruise ships to Alaska.

Joahaeyo - maybe stand at the dock with Yuki and I'm sure they'll be the ones running over to see the sheepie!! Ha Ha

Panda boy tells Panda girl not only can he speak English, Chinese, but also French as his other grandma speaks Parisian French to him. Best of all he can whisper speak sweet nothings in Panda girls ears..in dog language of course so neither of us would blush.

Panda girls says....."sigh.........."
Like Ron, my eyes are a bit misty. Imagine Panda remembering his Grandparents from years ago! What love he must have had for them! Thank you for sharing the pictures!
