What an unusual mix! He's a cutie!
Sue,

Any news on this boy? It's almost like deja vu when I viewed his photo as he looks identical to Riveria whom I wrote about after seeing him at a shelter up here. Riveria was placed in foster care but then euthenized and I haven't been able to stop thinking of him. I have forever regretted not adopting him.

Perhaps this is a way of redeeming myself possibly? Wish I lived closer.

Okay I'm editing my post..I'm going to try to call about this boy tomorrow and see if it's even remotely possible for me to try to get this boy. Always said room at the inn was very tight but he's such a little guy...what the heck is one more?

Hi, haven't heard any news yet. I am trying & hoping BONE will help.
Spread the word it may help.
I alway meant to ask why Rivera was put down. was he ill?
I remember how hard you tried & visited him. I am haunted too by many dogs I wish I could have saved. I do know how you feel. sue
Hi Sue,

When I assessed Riveria on a number of occasions when I took him out for walks I knew that as a senior his hearing and eyesight was a bit impaired as old dogs get. I heard he sometimes snapped at air if touched suddenly from his back without seeing the person. Apparently he once got in the garbage at the front office of the shelter and a staff person grabbed his collar and observed the snapping at air motion. I knew this was due to his impairment and not an aggressive issue as I was able to pull a matt from his chin, rub his belly and observed his interaction on our walks with people and dogs.

I become immaturely complacent when I found out he was in foster care as unfortunately perhaps the person whom took him wasn't prepared or knowledgable about senior dogs. He snapped at them and was returned and euthenized. I always think about him and my regret that I just didn't adopt him.

Perhaps rescuing this little fellow isn't going to save me from my guilt but it suddenly is becoming clear I want this little fellow. It would mean someone getting him, having him checked over at the vets for okay to travel and all shots then flying him to Seattle where I can pick him up or Vancouver if that's possible. It may be doable. In 3 wks I'm getting a large work bonus but perhaps I can borrow the cash to make this happen. Anyone have any suggestions..who lives in IL? Would Bone help out? Let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Marianne,
Would you call the number in the add & let me know. I know Thur is the day they put dogs down. Maybe someone there can suggest vetting & transport? I will be happy to donate to some part of his rescue.
So sad that the Riveara's foster didn't understand his disability.
Maybe he is sending this boy to you?

Marianne! You are an angel! Does this little guy's pictures remind you a bit of riviera? They remind me a bit of him. . I truly hope it all works out. It would be another OES.org Rescue Miracle!
Hi,

Sigh like most shelters I only recieved their voice mail and left a message. I did state to call me collect. I'm crossing my fingers. Anyone know who lives in IL?

I'll also contact BONE that Sue spoke of and see if they could help with transport or even find someone to pick him up and put him on a plane to Seattle. I don't think there is any direct flights to Vancouver but Seattle is doable as I live 4 hrs away. Would mean renting a car to get there but again it's possible.

Will keep everyone posted.

Here is where Rushville is located, it's 66 miles from Springfield, 105 miles from St. Louis and 231 miles from Chicago.

More info: My best friend just flew to NYC today and can bring him back with her if someone can get him to NYC by the 15th.

:D I might be able to help you Marianne if you need to go to Seattle to pick this little boy. He's awfully cute. Keep us posted. My car would get us there. :hearts:
hi,
If you reach the shelter maybe you should ask if they can take him to be boarded. I will be glad to help w/ the cost.
Anyone in IL who can pull this boy?

Hi,

Didn't hear back from the shelter at all. I wonder if the distance scared them? If this boy could be pulled by Thursday then I'll worry about the flight arrangements. Closest city is Springfield which is 66 miles away , Chicago is over 200 miles.

Lynda you are a sweetheart for offering to drive me to Seattle if that should happen. That would be the best place if someone could spring him.

The other alternative is getting him to my best friend whom will be visiting NYC until the 15th. She would then be able to accompany him back to Vancouver.

Not sure if airlines fly dogs from the area at this time of year. What has the weather been like?

Gasp...tomorrow Panda's Hong Kong Relatives are visiting him, so I'll be super busy but will try to contact the shelter.

I'll going to keep trying.

Marianne
Oh I hope thigs work out....
He just looks so adorable...
I wish I was near the area would drive there in a heart beat..
I hope he can make it into your arms Marianne
Well, I'm not anywhere close to Rushville, IL, but that's never stopped me before!

I'm on vacation for a week starting Thursday at 2:00 and if I can do anything let me know.

Jil
You are all so fantastic!

I am sending good thoughts & prayers your way hoping to save this boy!!
GOOD NEWS!

HAIRY WAS ADOPTED TODAY!

Marianne

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, offers of help and support regarding this little guy. I called the shelter and found out Hairy was adopted today by someone.
Glad to hear he was adopted..although I am sure it hurts you a little as you were really trying to get him for your home. Hugs!
Hi,

Nope I actually felt okay about it.....as truthfully the timing is not 100%. Gasp woulda meant 4 dogs...and more insanity on my part. I am truly happy Hairy got a home.

Marianne and the boys
