Water bowl woes!

As he has gotten bigger, Noodle has become QUITE messy with his water bowl. We end up with a trail on the wood floor all around the island in the kitchen :?

Do you all put a towel down? Do you trim the beard? I tried a placemat but then the water was underneath it

Help! Any tips would be most appreciated!

Trimming the beard is a great idea! :)

I only put a little water in the bowl at a time. About an inch of water. Then when I see Yuki drink water, I wipe her beard down. I've never had water on the floor.
Good luck with this problem!

I've been dealing with it forever with Frank and it's definitely more difficult when the fur on the chin is long. Then it becomes a big wet mop. Frank's drinking timing has always been perfect, especially when we have company, I usually have to keep towels all over the place.

It's so funny that some dogs can learn how to drink without sticking their whole head in the water bowl & some cannot.
Panda makes a HUGE mess with her water, she sticks her whole face in it, and then happily slops it around the house. LOL We tend to have a towel nearby and just throw it on the floor to soak it up.
We have the water bowls in a plastic tray bottom from a crate. Keeps the excess water contained.

A baking sheet would do the same thing.

Haven't figured out what to put in the bathrooms around the toilet though.
We use a water bowl inside a 9x12 baking dish - when Chipper is drinking he makes himself two water bowls- the real one and the baking dish !!
All of mine are bearded dogs so we always have drippage unless I catch it in time. What helps a lot with the floor is, rather than a placemat, I bought an indoor/outdoor rug, like a welcome mat and put that under the bowl. It's pretty absorbent, keeps the water off the floor and can just be thrown away when it starts looking gross.
We have side by side raised water bowls so put an under car drip pan underneath. Old place mats can be put on top for holiday decoration......tho I still do have the reindeer mats down  I take up the mats and throw them in the sink with soap and chlorox, let them dry before returning to drip pan. Still, there's water on the floor.

Doesn't help that Glacier licks the kitchen floor clean.....yuck. Talk about a dirt holder and makes cleaning sooooo much easier....
we put pandas water bowl on a towel which sits on a plastic brown tray from mcdonalds... 8O
water BOWL? EHHHHH??? I've used a bucket, YUP a BUCKET for so long I can't imagine using a bowl. The nice thing about a bucket is you can leave lots of water down, if you fill it half full they have to stick their head into it which cuts down on the slopping out.
ROFL at the idea of a big ole bucket in the kitchen  More water for him to play with! Sheepie slip and slide :o

We have to keep the toilet lids down lately! With 3 little boys that is no small feat

I think putting the raised bowl into another container is a good idea as well as having an indoor outdoor rug or towel down. That might help the dribbles :? Plus I trimmed his beard this morning after that suggestion! Thanks!

I'm so envious when I go to Darcy's and see elegant little Panda drinking neatly from the side of her water bowl. Bailey is a whole-head submerger. Like Jo said, I keep the water bowl less than half filled. We also keep his beard trimmed and keep towels out when we have company.
We have 2 sheepies. We keep their water dishes in the laundry room (off the kitchen) so they drip in the laundry room and hall before they get back to the kitchen. We also keep a towel in the kitchen to wipe their chins.

 I just figured EVERYONE with a BIG OLE DOG had a BIG OLE BUCKET!!!! Well, at least the COLOR matched my walls!!
I have a rubber backed kitchen scatter rug under the water and food bowls. Daisy doesn't have too much of a problem w/ the water bowl but likes to scatter the dry food all around the dish - like a kid emptying the cereal box to find the prize inside.

When the foster pups were here, the water bowl was a BIG problem - they all liked to put their feet in it and splash water all over the place so I had to put in small amounts at a time. I have never seen puppies go through as much water as they did - they acted like they had never had any before. They also would drink out of the toilets if I forgot to put the lids down which is something neither Daisy or Ollie do.
It seems the issues with Fozzie and the water bowl have gotten better. He drank out of Annie's 3 quart bowl and would put his whole face in it! He'd whip is face out and water everywhere! He still drools and dribbles but it's not as bad. We have a boot mat underneath the bowls, a towel hanging on the chair and I did trim his beard and whiskers the week before last which really seemed help :D Do it when he's asleep! At least you can snip off a few pieces before he wakes up!
We have a big rug under a raised water dish. But we pretty much always have a kitchen towel laying on the floor because they are extremely sloppy. Good thing we have tile. Hannah pretty much submerges her whole chin in the water. I've even tried cutting the fur on her chin, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Copper's head is smaller so he doesn't slop around quite as much but he still gets a wet beard. More so when he drinks outside from the pool or sprinkler drips.

In the master bathroom, we have a stainless steel bowl that isn't raised. It's on a rug and it seems to be less sloppy there.
Ginny- I hope you know I was laughing out of love  Imagining the mess he would make with MORE water was too much for me to bear!

Stacy- I could see Fozzie shaking and water flying :D

ljb- puppies and water, oh my!!!

We have the 96 ounce water bowl-- that's pretty close to a bucket! I can start filling it, go down and start the washing machine and it's still filling when I come back upstairs.
I thought the idea was to let them trail water through the house, so you don't need a bucket when you mop.

Beards are usually wiped on my lap before I manage to get a towel to them.

That cold beard breaks you of wearing shorts real quick. Seemed like some of mine would get a drink and hunt me down to dry their face. Maybe they were trying to tell me something like, "get a towel".
When your dogs drink do they spill alot of it from the side of there mouths???
We have raised waterbowls here. Usually the only water on the floor is from me when I slosh it after filling the bowl

We have our fair share of wet chins... but not sloppy dripping slurpy ones. guess I'm lucky. Baloo does blow bubbles in his water when we are outside. Inside they are really plain normal drinkers.

It does no good to leave the potty lid down in this house. Lily taught Baloo how to nose it up, hold it on your head while you get a drink and back away fast as you let the lid drop down with a thud.
