Can you say "New kitchen??"

Well, I have to say that yesterday was the BEST day of my work career...EVER!!

I found out that I won a cruise to the carribean through one of my cabinet manufacturers...Crystal cabinets...anyway...its 7 days/7nights...leaves out of Miami...in January...I sold a lot of this high end line, (and as some of you know about my Hollis job)...she had that line and thanks to her and her "pita" behavior, I had to reorder a lot of stuff for her...so she actually put me over the top....lol....no, i wont be telling or thanking her for it...

Chris, my coworker really wants to take his wife....I said "tough luck..."....then I thought about it...and asked what he would trade for....he asked what I wanted...and I said my kitchen of course...(his dad owns the company)... and believe it or not ...he said "okay"....so, in the spring, I will have a pretty nice and functioning kitchen....yey, a dishwasher!!!!

ps...the reason I so readily gave it up was that brian gets horribly seasick and he is the only one Id want to go on vacation with :D

OMG.. that is awsome Darcy!!!!.. I would gladly trade a cruise for a kitchen.

I get seasick to.

Good for you!!
YEEEHAWWWW!!!
That's awesome Darcy! I'm so jealous. I can't wait to see what your little designer hands can do!
Awesome! I'll start packing my bags!
Awesome!! :)

So, have you already got it designed? LOL
Its been designed for 3yrs now....still cant figure out the countertops....now im leaning toward soapstone instead of concrete........
I am soooo happy for you! :clappurple:
What a fabulous stroke of luck!! I'm very happy for you, Darcy!!

Now is the hard part...you have to actually commit to all the plans. Dreaming is the best part!!
Wow Darcy! Glad you got something nice out of working with that pain-in-the-butt client. I'd go for the kitchen as well... you always have Hawaii and that's better than a cruise any day!
How great did that all work out!!! Congrats on the new kitchen- yipee!!!
Yay Darce! Can't wait to hear all about the design scheme! DO TELL!!!congrats on your stroke of luck!!! I'd definitely trade in a cruise for a remdel too (If I hadn't just done one!!!) Just the thought makes me nauseous...
BTW- my ongoing kitchen remodel now has the chair rail installed :D
How fun! Of course we need to see piccies.....
Wow, Darce - what great news!! Congratulations!  Is there a spending limit on the kitchen? If not - wowser!!
Well, I wouldnt say there is a limit per se, but there is a catch...I have to say its a display, so work can get additional discount...I have to find out which one I can work with...2 cabinet lines will work perfectly....so we'll see...

anyone out there in sheepie world that has different kind of counters? I was thinking of granite, but it is shiney and too new looking, so then I went to stained concrete, but just found out this morning that she wont warrenty it and for brian thats a big NO...so now Im thinking of soapstone...but i really didnt want a dark counter again....so anyone have a lighter color counter top that will go with a country 1944 kitchen.
Wow how wonderful~

I can't wait to see your fabulous kitchen!
wahoooo!
Woo hoo! Congratulations! Always nice to be recognized!

Personally I'd go with the Granite if I had a choice, with a marble inlay somewhere for pastries, but it's so polished that all dirt shows up, but then again from your previous pics, that doesn't look like it'll be a problem for you. Of course you can get all sorts of light and dark colors. But you know all this stuff better than I do.

Soapstone.... We had a sink made of soapstone in my parent's basement; we broke it up and took it out 35 years ago. What I remember from it was that it scratched very easily and was basically talcum powder that hadn't been ground yet. Used some saved pieces of it like chalk on the sidewalk for a few years afterward.

Is that the stuff?
I've heard that soapstone is pretty soft material, so if you want it in a highly used area of your kitchen that might not be the best.

What about silestone or Zodiac or Corian? Those seem to be a little less shiny than granite, but gives the general look of granite. Maybe if you get a little lighter color the granite won't be as shiny.

Are you keeping your old stove?
I'd trade in a New York minute too!

Does this mean I'll get you see your kitchen in Phoenix Home and Garden?? NO, wait, Mom is moving to Denver this weekend......no more AZ breaks.......noooooooooooooooooooo
My stove is the focal point of the kitchen...yes soapstone is soft, but i like the honed look....No shiney surfaces....except the gloss white subway tile....gosh, now im just as confused as my clients 8O
my husband said I can't have white subway tile
I'll just have to look at yours when you get it...
so what is your second option??? what about a colored subway tile???
Wow! That cruise should take him around the world a few times!
Way to make a deal!!

I get seasick too, so that would have been my choice too.

You mentioned the 1944 look, and stove - how about the retro linoleum stuff? That's what they used to use then, and they have cool new looks. I have some from that period on one counter, and it wears like iron!
You will have to break a bottle of champagne over your kitchen sink to "launch" your new kitchen. Way to go on the trade. It is always fun to plan a new kitchen. (Almost as fun as owning a sheepie)

Right now he wants that slate tile, but I don't think that'd look very good. It's either that or just a plain granite small backsplash, which I am not sure about either. Not much fun!

Right now we need to find a sink. Surprisingly they are kind of hard to find! We want a single basin white ceramic-looking one...if anyone knows of a good place to find them...
That's awesome. Congrats!
Say what ypou will about Corian, it is repairable.
I have a visible crack in the top that they are coming out to fix on Monday. At least it's not a replacement. $$$$
Hi Darcy,

I'd love to have a granite counter top..but that's just my personal taste.

Whooo hooo good on you for winning that prize and then the trade! Lucky you!

Marianne and the boys
Steph, look at www.qualitybath.com they have a sink there that i want...and the prices seem to be reasonable. I like slate tiles too, but it is not very traditional looking, is that what you want? there are some nice ceramic tiles that look like natural stone but are easier to maintain....
Thanks for the link. We're looking for something that is our taste, but also everyone else's since we'll be selling the house in a year. We want to be able to enjoy it for ourselves and don't want to make it too vanilla, but we also want to make sure that others will not go, ew, what were they thinking!
Our house in general is pretty neutral--it is a 10-year-old tract home, so no major personality of the house that we have to keep in mind. Our taste in general (I think!) is traditional with a slightly modern touch.
Oh Darcy, what a site! Jetted Pedicure sinks? Honestly, I want a 4 room house, one great kitchen, one great bathroom, one great bedroom and one OK living room
Congrats Darcy, I would trade the cruise for a new kitchen too.
Now, that's what I call smart. What color and style cabinets? Details, details please. This is exciting. I'll live vicariously through you. What color other appliances besides stove? What kind of floor, sink? Ok, I'm excited, can you tell?

SheepieBoss, What not a Great livingroom?
We have Corian counter tops and I love them. They are not only pretty but easy to maintain and keep clean. We have a Corian sink too. It's set in from the botton so there is no lip between the counter and the sink. Just brush those crumbs right into the sink! We also picked out distressed cherry wood with a chocolate stain finish for the cabinets. Love them too!
we had corian in our condo. I loved it too, however, I scratched the heck out of it...and yes it is fixable, but with the amount of cooking I do, I cant afford to fix it THAT often. At the time, it got to the point where Brian made me put all bowls and cutting boards on paper plates to help alievate scratching....and the one thing I hate, is that no matter what color you have corian scratches white....
Hmmm...... I haven't really had that much of a problem with scratching so far (2 yrs). We did get a kit to fix little scratches and stuff like that but I haven't had to use it so far. Maybe I'm just lucky! :P

One thing we did that I really like is that under a desk area, we had the ceramic tile go right up the wall underneath. That's where we feed Truman. No mess!
im a tile freak! i love tile..Im going to tile the whole wall behind the stove!!
Tyhanks for mentioning Corian's problems! I was leaning that way. Not now.
