Our Las Vegas Treasure Island wedding date is set!

We've officially set the date for the wedding. It's be April 28 at 12:30 p.m.on the pirate ship in Treasure Island in Las Vegas. Woohoo!

We're holding a very small luncheon after the ceremony but, since the wedding is essentially outside, on the strip, I'd like to invite anyone who may be going to Vegas around then or who lives in Vegas already to swing by and watch while we get hitched and party with us later in the evening. It should be a good time and you all know the saying, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!"

Just think, next year at this time, I'll be Mrs. Jill.

How cool! Enjoy the planning :)
Wow, I missed a lot. There should be a summary of the "happenings" when people can't read or keep up with the boards. Congrats! That's very exciting. So the drama begins... (wedding planning)

My good friend got married there a few years ago. The pictures turned out fabulous. Everyone had a blast, and it was definitely memorable. The wedding was so unique and everyone kept talking about it for months! :)
WhoooooHoooooo! Yeah baby (austin powers accent)!!! Im in!!!! I cant wait!!!
Las Vegas April 28th??? Hmmmmmmm I've always wanted to go to Las Vegas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can if you want. I'll find it quite entertaining while I look on in my normal wedding dress. ;)
arrrrgggg matie....youre sooo boring...
That sounds so FUN!! What a unique and exciting way to start your married life!!

Now, I have to see if I can make plans to come! How cool??!!!!

I'm so excited for you I feel like jumping up & down!!! :yay: :yay: :excited: :excited:
Gee, that does sound like fun!!

I think tomorrow I'll ask for the time off!

Congrats!

Oh, Darcy, I think we SHOULD dress up as pirates! 8)
Have fun with all of your plans! (I'll check & see if I have some appropriate fonts for you too, soon! )
How fun will that be, beats a normal wedding

Viva Las Vegas :D

Why not? IT'S VEGAS!!!!!!

And Jill, you can always just wear my dress.
I already asked for the time off (Friday through Monday) and it's at MONTH-END, definitely not the time for an accountant to be in Vegas, Baby!
Any Travel Agents out there that can get us a group rate???

Poor Jill, you may regret the day you posted this!!!!
A while back someone (I think it was Stacy) posted about a sheepie people vacation - this could be it!!! It's been 7 years since I've been to Vegas. Can you imagine how much fun it would be if we were ALL there? Definitely something to think about!!
How unique! I'm totally in! The first time we all meet is at Jil's wedding 8O Vegas would be a perfect sheepie forum vacation. Too bad Jil might be a little busy!

   WOULDN'T IT BE FUN!!!!!!!!!!
Let's make it happen instead of all talking about it! :D
My #1 question is does anyone know, internet or otherwise, how to get the best "Las Vegas Pkg"?
I don't know, but would be willing to help you figure it out. :D

Jil just made reservations for us at Treasure Island for the 27th-30th. I'm going to make my flight reservations later today. 8)

Y'all get busy and make this happen!! :yay: :excited:
Will most of you be bringing significant others?
Tasker's Mom wrote:

You bet your last quarter!!! Im not bringing Brian, but if Sue is up to it, she'll be my date!!
I'm dying for a vacation by myself and this is perfect! Anyone want to share a room with me???

Steve just received an email from a college buddy about a reunion out east next fall. So...I'm going to encourage him to go..
Stacy wrote:

I would bring DOug, we've always wanted to go to LasVegas....... who knows maybe I'll con him into going to a WEDDING CHAPEL while we are there
oh a double wedding...how romantic...can wear wear eye patches and swords at your wedding????
HAHAHAHAHA, the only way I'd get Doug to a Wedding Chapel is to COMPLETELY BLINFORLD HIM and do it at SWORD PINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROTFLMAO... 8O :D
Lol. This is awesome you guys! How fun! I can't believe how fast you guys are-- I don't even have all my reservations yet! Only my wedding night!

What great timing. Seriously, let me know when you're all getting in so I can make sure I can plan an evening out with you guys. I have a feeling things are going to be pretty busy preparing for the last minute wedding details so I want to schedule it in!

Mandy, I've actually had my dress since before I even got the ring!
Tasker's Mom wrote:

Then he could wear 2 eye patches. ;)
I wanna go!!! Billy & I got married in Vegas on 4/24/04 and have wanted to go back and renew our vows. That is very close to our anniversary so we might go! :D
We can get a flight from here for $29 each way. That is much cheaper than paying for gas.
ButtersStotch wrote:

You want my veil? This stuff gets expensive so everybody should just chip in pieces and then you'll have more cash to gamble with!

Hahahahahahaha!!! Good one, Jill!! :rimshot:

My nephew has the whole Captain Jack Sparrow outfit. I can borrow the eyepatch, sword, wig & hat from him. Aaarrrrggghhh!!! :yay:
 Hmmm, if we got there early just think of the BACHELORETTE PARTY WE COULD HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to the Treasure Island Web site but couldn't get any pkg info for that date. I also went to Orbitz.com and did get package prices for room and plane. One of my patients said that Bally's is a good reasonable hotel. THE WHEELS ARE TURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody else find any good packages yet?

I hadn't even thought of a Vegas bachlorette party! I'm losing my touch!
DAMN! I'll be driving back from Lexington, KY that day (finishing my own vacation). And I cannot contribute any piece of the wedding outfit--I donated my wedding dress and veil to charity.

Vegas packages are easy enough to get through a travel agent. Although my brother calls the hotel directly and usually gets a great deal.

Treasure Island is at one end of Strip. Check maps--it's a looooooong walk from end to the other. I think Mandalay Bay is down by T.I.

I loff Vegas and am really sorry to miss the festivities. If the KY vacation falls through, I'll see y'all in LV.
I already have almost everything-- I'm way too prepared! My mom paid for the whole getup so I didn't have to scrimp!

It's really early to book the good packages-- Treasure island hasn't even released rooms to sites like Travelocity or Expedia yet.

Bally's is really reasonable, Ginny, especially for an on strip hotel. It lacks the glamour and gimmick of some of the new ones but who cares? We stayed at the San Remo of all places the last time we went. It's just off the strip, we got a phenomenal deal and we had the best time there out of anywhere we've ever stayed. It was really small so everyone really got to know you and we got comped all over the place!

I'm totally in! I love Vegas, and I can't even imagine how much better it will be with JILL getting married on the Pirate Ship and DARCY to go shopping with! (Vegas has some great outlet shopping!)

Woohoo! The outlets are almost the best part of Vegas! I always go to the closer one but we should make a trip to the one that's further in the desert, too!
http://www.lasvegasmaps.com/stripmap.html

For those who aren't familiar with Vegas, here's a good map of the "Strip". Bally's is centrally located, I've stayed there before and it was nice. The lowest prices are off the Strip or at the northern end of the Strip - Circus Circus, Westward Ho, Riviera. For a long weekend I'd rather stay at the TI or south to be close to where all the newer casinos are.
Sue will you & Darcy drive up? Or is it better for you to fly?
I think it will be cheaper to fly.....another girlfriend is an eyewear rep and bought a condo in vegas just off the strip, so im going to see if sue and i can borrow it....that is if sue wants too....
That would work out great for you guys!

I was just wondering if anyone was going to have a car?
OH WOW!!
Congratulations on setting your wedding date!

I've always wanted to get hitched in Las Vegas~
It sounds a million times fun!!!
Darcy wrote:

I'd rather fly - the road from here to Vegas goes over the Hoover Dam and the traffic can be a nightmare.
We should be respectful of the Bride (and maybe even the Groom) here... they may not have enough time to host/entertain/be with everyone, so let's just up front tell Jill that she's only expected to meet for an evening out, and invitations to the reception (if any) are not required.

Is the wedding an open event where all passers-by will be able to see?

OK now, that said, WHO is going to wear the oes.org Pirate outfit? LOL
RON, are you saying you think she would rather spend her wedding weekend with her GROOM then with her friends from OES.ORG??????????????? Why I am shocked and appalled

Yes indeed Jill, you are off the hook for this one!!!! Just know we'll be in town for "moral" support and good vibes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many people does that pirate ship hold anyway??????????????????????
I just keep hearing Jerry Seinfeld: "I don't wanna be a pirate!"
I did my senior thesis in college on pirates, so if anyones needs any information...

Yea, but didn't he look cute in the shirt!!!!!

We might need all the info we can get!!!!
What happens in Vegas, stays on OES.org. 8)
I've heard of walking down the aisle, will this be walking the plank?
Puffy shirt, puffy shirt!!!! Okay, Jill only has to spend one night with us....the bachelorette party!!!!

barney1 wrote:

Sidebar: What did you study that your senior thesis could be on pirates? Sounds very cool!
lol.
I was a History Major (and an english major) and I wanted to do my thesis on the allure and myth of the pirate in American culture and society. Why it was so alluring and how it had changed throughout the years in American culture (from the actual swashbuckling days to Hollywood movies). I wanted to include literature and history all in one. However, my professor thought that was too adventurous for a topic (meaning too many facets for too short a paper) AND too much literature involved (this was my thesis for my history major), so I basically just shaved it down to pirates and their history in America (like the height of real piracy, not modern-day pirates).

I just talked to Doug on the phone (he is still in Florida), HE SAID YES!!!!!! We have always talked about Las Vegas!!!!

NOW HELP!!!!!!!!!!! How do I get the best "deal" IS it better to get a package or do hotel and flight seperate? Has anyone used "Orbitx???? I need some guidance here!!
Whooo hooo....this is going to be SO fun! Is the daddy of oes.org going too?????

Thanks for looking out, Ron. I think it's great that everyone is coming out and I'll be sure my hardest to make time for anyone who made time for me. But in reverse fairnness, it's also a forum gettogether for all you guys, too, so it sounds like there's gonna be plenty of you going now that you'll be perfectly happy without me anyway! I'd love to invite all of you to the reception lunch but we are striving to keep it very small (and already failing miserably!). However, perhaps we could have a pre or post wedding gettogether? We'll be in Vegas (tentatively) from that Wednesday to the following Monday or Tuesday so we'll be there awhile. I'm doing my best to cover all my details now so when I get there, I won't have any scrambling to do!

Ron wrote:

To this question: YES! Everyone is welcome to come and watch the actual ceremony if you'd like to. There's a VIP bridge that all attendees can watch from and I know there's quite a bit of room on there. I'll find out if you have to be "on a list" or anything to get to it and if so, I'll add you all that way if you make it, awesome, but if you partied too hard the night before, no big deal, you're covered either way. Heck, worse case scenario, you can watch from the walkway on the strip if you're really running late!

Now that all that is out of the way, would anyone like to go see the Mystere (Cirque du Soliel) show that they have at Treasure Island? I've never made it the last few years and would love to go. I saw Zumanity (at New York New York) but I heard this one if even better. That might be a fun outing for all of us to go on (outside of a bachelorette party!).

Ginny: Try vegas.com first. I've had great luck there before. I also like travelocity.com too. You usually wind up saving a bit more if you book flight and hotel together. I haven't found anything that great yet and I've been looking, though.
Cirque is #1 on our list!!!

And please don't worry Jill, we all understand the need to keep your reception small AND your need to tend to your family and bridal responsibilities first. We will gaze from the bridge and welcome your company when it suits you!!!!
Zumanity was much better but I think there would be a lot of blushing going on.
Whatever you do, don't go to see the show at the Stratosphere! If they haven't closed it yet they should. IT IS AWFUL!!!
Maxmm wrote:

Lol. Yeah, I know they're like night and day, from what I've heard. I wish they were still running the Varakai show around the country. I LOVED those British twins!

I didn't even know they still had the Stratosphere show going. There's a Thai karaoke bar right around the corner from there on Industrial drive that is one heck of a show (without even meaning to be). It's not much for frills but the food isn't bad.

One year, we did this sort of traveling dinner magic show at Caesar's that ended up being a lot of fun. You traveled to all these different rooms under the forum for different magic acts (which they made to look like catacombs) and ate dinner at a big giant table with about 15 other people. It was intimate and really entertaining.

Dork that I am, I always go have to ride the motion ride at Excalibur, too. ;)
The blue man group is fantastic too...brian and i went and saw it when it was at the luxor....i think its at ceasars now, but i could be wrong.....
Okay, I'm in! Got to look at the prices. Steve said if it's just girls from the forum he's not sure he will go...said I would have more fun without him. He's never been to Vegas and I mentioned that Doug and Billy might come so he could hang with the guys.

Elissa, do you think Billy will come too? Steve really liked him.

I'd love to go to a Cirque de Soleil show. I've been to Blue Ma Group and I think I might be the only one on the planet who didn't really enjoy it. Freaked me out 8O

OMG this will be so much fun!
aww, sounds like it's going to be fun! We're driving out to Lake Havasu around the 15th of May for a couple of weeks, so we're barely missing the wedding. Too bad we're not leaving earlier so we could stop by with a gift and a hi (LV is only about 2.5 hours away and we've never been there), but we've got to wait until the rugrat gets out of school for the summer. :)
I tried the vegas.com site but it keeps telling me my dates aren't valid. Maybe they just don't go that far ahead.
Tasker's Mom wrote:

Oops, yeah. I should've mentioned that. I had the same problem.
Stacy wrote:

Stacy, If I go Billy will too. Like he always says we are a package deal. lol
I have to bring Doug, I can't trick him into marrying me at the Elvis Chapel if he's not there
YEAH!!!!!!!!!! All the Sheepie people coming to Vegas. :yay: :excited: Obviously count me in on that and to observing the holy matrimony :high5: WooHoo.

Would you guys like me to organize a get together at my house? Copper and Hannah are a very gracious host and hostess. But the only problem is, my secret will be out, that they are very exuberant, and LOVE to jump on people. I guess obedience training may be in their future. :lmt: Do you think they could learn not to jump in say 9 MONTHS?

Mystere is a phenomenal show. The magic show at Caesars might be closed. That was a really great dinner experience. A really rowdy fun dinner show is at the Excalibur. I think it's called something like Nights of the Round table with beautiful horses and a midevil type jousting theme. You eat with your hands and they encourage audience enthusiasm shouting HaZah. It's really fun but loud. It's priced well too.

You can get good deals through Vegas.com, Hotels.com, Priceline.com.

Probably expensive Hotels: Bellagio, Wynn, Mirage.

Hotels on Strip with probably better pricing, MGM Grand, Flamingo Hilton,
Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay, New York New York, Excalibur, Luxor, Ballys, Caesars, Alladin, Venetian.

Other Hotels on Strip with maybe even better pricing: Riviera, Stardust, Frontier, Tropicana (pretty old and outdated) Imperial Palace, Stratosphere, Circus Circus.

There are also Motels on the Strip as well.

Off strip is Rio on Flamingo Blvd. All suites. The Westin on Flamingo allows large dogs.

Downtown Golden Nugget is really nice.

Some Hotels in walking distance to Treasure Island are TI, Mirage, Wynn, Imperial Palace, Flamingo Hilton and maybe the Venetian, I can't remember. There's double decker buses now going down the strip and also a tram for certain hotels.

Hotels attached to YES SHOPPING:   Caesars has the Forum Shops, Alladin has Desert Passage and the Venetian Hotel has shopping and a canal. There are two outlet malls. One is downtown and also one South on the strip.

There are a ton of hotels and motels.

Since I live here if I can be of help to the bride or anyone else planning their trip I will be happy to help you.

Important note: What happens here stays here. That translates to: We confiscate and keep Sheepies! :D  :D Allright I'll give them back.

I'm so excited to get the chance to meet all of you :!: :!: :!: :rimshot:
Thanks for all the info! I've printed it out for reference. How sweet of you to offer a house party! Like we care if the pups jump on us 8O

I looked up some of the hotels and there were "no rooms available" on those dates. Maybe in another month or so they will be programmed in.

I'd LOVE to see a show, just not Blue Man Group.
Image
To add to LV Sheepie Lover's info:

Shopping: The TI is across the street from Fashion Show Mall - walkway between the two.
Transportation: There is a monorail that runs along the Strip now. It's pricey but way cheaper than taking cabs all day.
Hotels: The Venetian is across the street from the TI. We just stayed there - it was gorgeous. We got super deals because it was summer.
Show Tickets: There is a Discount Ticket dealer in Fashion Show Mall. You can get same day tickets at a discount, up to half off. Not everything was available but they had a great selection.
HOW COOL IS THIS!!!! I'd LOVE to go, but it'll probably be dependant on finances and how far along my pregnancy is at that point (Counting of course on the fact that I WILL BE pregnant by that point!  ) My sister LOVES vegas, and Mike has been talking about going on a family vacation... Hmmm.... I'll have to think on this one. Meantime, I'm soaking up all the trip talk! What a cool spot to get married at!!!!

Anybody know if the star trek place is still open???
Yes, it's called The Star Trek Experience. It's at the Las Vegas Hilton on Paradise Road. Cost is $38.99 per person and hours for the Summer are 11:30AM to 10PM. You don't need reservations.

Thought it was just me and I missed your name eons ago. How can we come to your house when we come in town if we don't know your name? That wouldn't seem right!

I can just see this group of us in a cab saying "take us to Las Vegas Sheepie Lover's house. you know where that is right?" to the cabbie who speaks only Russian. 8O

(Don't mind me...I've been up too long!!)
OK.
I didn't want to say anything until I was sure.
My hubby and I had just come back from Vegas JUST before I joined this site... (Second Week of July) We are going back the week before Christmas...

But we are soooooooo in for April of next year!
Ok I'm sure LV sheepie lover will have tons of info but I'm a big time lurker at www.lasvegastalk.com

If you go to the forum, people give tons of advice and tips on traveling around vegas. At the "deals" section people post promotion codes that are offered to theom directly from the casinos. That is how we got to stay at the Fountain View room at the Bellagio for $149/night, when normal rates go for $300/night... MGM went for $79/night, Circus Circus went to $59/night. If 2-4 ppl share the room, it's even cheaper!!

From what I gathered, The hotels didn't even release deal for fall and winter of 06/07 so we still got a long way to go till next April for the best deals

In my experience the best thing to do: Book rooms directly through the Hotel and get the cheapest deal of Airfair.

Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.. is very convenient but you can't get out of your package. If you book directly with the Hotels, you can cancel 48hrs before or if you find a better deal you can change your room rate at anytime.

I'll definitely be on the look out and post promotion codes as I get them.

Discount tickets available for Star Trek at the Ticket place at Fashion Show Mall. I passed on it the last time I was in Vegas but now that I know I can get cheaper tickets we are SO there the next time!
