Delete Our Old English Sheepdog recently had a litter of puppies fathered by our young lab. We are not breeders, and this is a one time litter as our lab was neutered to prevent any future breedings. Our home is not large enough to keep all of their pups. This healthy adorable puppy will be ready for her forever home by August 29. She is being raised inside our clean, loving home. $175 adoption fee. She will have her first shots and worming. Call 440-655-2773 or email LSfarm@aol.com

UPDATE IN OH

Hybrid - Old English Sheepdog/Labrador Retriever.

MOM is an Old English Sheepdog. Her name is Minnie and she is
2-1/2 years old. The prime age for breeding. We adopted Minnie at 7 months of age. Minnie bonds very closely with her owners and follows us everywhere. She is one of three dogs in our home. A very loving, cuddly “lap dog” (seriously), she is also very protective and guarding of her home and family. Minnie likes to be in charge of the “pack” and must always know where the other two dogs are and what they are doing (as well as us!). This is her herding instinct, we presume. Minnie likes to think that she is a tough dog, but her action of rolling over on her back un-solicited, to have her belly rubbed shows otherwise. She is very sweet, loving and a beautiful dog. She is small for her breed, weighing 55 lbs. Minnie’s coat sheds very little. We take her to the groomer about every 4 months or so to have her trimmed.

MINNIE (Mom)

DAD is a Yellow Lab. Jack is a young father, at 10 months of age. Currently, he weighs 70 lbs. Jack came into our home when he was just 8 weeks old. Although we adopted Jack with the intention of breeding him with Minnie, Jack will remain a permanent part of our family. Jack is a very, very calm dog. We have not put in as much time and effort into formal training with Jack, but we have been extremely fortunate that he has a natural calmness and good behavior and manners. He learns very quickly. He’s immediately friendly as can be as soon as one reaches a hand out to him. He loves to have his belly scratched and will roll on the floor on his back to invite a scratch from you. He is a natural for retrieving. For a puppy who hasn’t been many places, he’s as good-natured, even-tempered as you could ever hope. Jack loves everyone, adults, children and other dogs. He is being very gentle with his new “sons and daughters”. We are confident that Jack’s demeanor will be a strong part of his pups as the pups seem very content. Jack is a happy-go-lucky, laid-back, fun-loving dog. Jack has bonded well with us, walking right beside us voluntarily in a “heel” position. You couldn’t ask for a better dog. Jack’s coat, as all Labs’, sheds profusely.

LIZZIE is our 3 year old SHEEP-La-DOR. She is not related to Jack and Minnie. We adopted Lizzie at 8 weeks of age. She is very bonding to her owners. Lizzie is not a lap-dog, but thrives on attention. Lizzie has a unique personality. She likes to be near you. She loves to be petted and hugged, but does not want to climb on your lap. She also has her moments when she just wants to have some solitude and will lay quietly on the back porch by herself. But she still makes sure she knows where everyone else is at. Lizzie is extremely intelligent and has shown reasoning ability beyond belief. Lizzie immediately loves every person she meets, every dog and children, regardless of if they want her attention or not. Lizzie closely resembles an Irish Wolfhound puppy, and it seems to be the assumption of everyone who meets her without already knowing her breed. Lizzie’s coat sheds moderate to low. She sheds more in the Spring, but this time of year, she sheds very little. In this recent photo, Lizzie is still not in full coat. She had a haircut in the Spring.

The trio: Lizzie, Minnie, Jack

THE PUPS - These pups will be lower shedding with the mix of the 2 breeds. The hybrid’s coat will grow continuously just as the Old English. But the growing time is slower, so professional grooming is needed less often. Occasional brushing will be needed to prevent matting. We shave our hybrid in the late Spring. It takes almost a full year for her coat to reach it’s longer length. We trim her ourselves when her coat begins to become unruly.

Both parents of these pups are AKC registered. We will provide you with a photocopy of their pedigrees so that you may have a record of their background. The parents are healthy, well cared for family members. They have regular vet visits and shots are always up to date. They have been on heartworm and flea preventative. They live inside our home, sleep in our bedroom, and get frequent exercise on our 2-acre fenced in property.

Both parents possess excellent temperament and personality. There are qualities of each breed that have combined to create a wonderful, unique breed.

Mom and pups have top quality care, whelped and raised inside in our clean loving home. Mom had pre-natal visits, has been on vitamins, and is on the highest quality food on the market (Nutro brand) to ensure the pups receive the best nourishment possible. Pups will be weaned on Nutro puppy food as well.

This litter was born on the Fourth of July. A total of 9 pups, 6 girls and 3 boys.

Beautiful Fourth of July babies! We estimate that they will weigh approx. 65 lbs. based on the weight of mom and dad. The boys may weigh a bit more. They have been vet checked and will have their first shots & worming before going to their new homes. They will be ready around August 29, at 8 weeks of age and would be fine to go home the weekend preceeding to give new owners the weekend to spend with their new family member.

Please note that we are not professional breeders. This is a one-time only litter for our dogs. We are only asking $175 adoption fee to recoup the costs of the vet bills, care and feeding for mom and pups and advertisement costs.

Below are some photos of the puppies.

We are located in Eaton Township, Ohio (Lorain County), on Route 83 just North of Route 82.

$175 adoption fee. A $50 deposit is required to hold the puppy. This deposit is put towards the adoption fee. The deposit is 50% refundable up until August 12. The deposit becomes non-refundable after August 12. We have set this stipulation to ensure that adopting owners are serious about their commitment and it gives us additional time and funding to search for new homes.

Adopting owners are welcome to come visit their new puppy as often as they like until they are ready to go home with their new family.

We are looking for forever-homes for these pups. If you are serious about adopting one of our SHEEP-La-DORS, please contact us at 440-655-2773.

unfortunately I don't think the pics will show. they were sent to me in a word document and placed in the text. If you wanna see i can e-mail it to you.
Here's an ad these people placed in a local paper:

SHEEP-La-DOR puppies, adorable hybrid! Old English Sheepdog/Labrador. Lower shedding. Parents AKC. Born 7/4; ready 8/29. 1st shots- /worming. $175. Email LSfarm@aol.com 440-655- 2773 serious inquiries. Lorain County

I don't consider this to be rescue and I don't think it's appropriate for them to advertise their $175 puppies on this site or on Petfinder.
Any evidence that this is other than what they say, an accidental breeding? Are the in the breeding biz? Their email addy says "farm" in it, maybe they are....

$175 isn't very much but then again livestock-type/puppy mill breeders don't charge much for their dogs either. :(
"Mom" is the prime age for breeding. It is obvious that these are back-yard breeders.

These dogs are for "sale". Not for adoption. Backyard Breeders often use "adoption" because it sounds so cute, but it really belittles rescue work.

Are these dogs postec on Petfinder? I don't think so, because if they were this ad would be pulled immediately.
You think the vet bills will be substantially less than $175 per pup?
They "adopted" Jack with the intention of breeding him with Minnie. It wasn't accidental.

I would say substantially less than $175 each, unless they are being spayed/neutered first.
sorry again everybody.
If I knew how I would just delete everything.
Interesting sidebar: the owner once posted on oes.org:

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=4582

I agree that the breeding was intentional but we don't know whether they intend to keep doing it or whether it was a one time thing. Some people like the idea of having one batch of puppies, whether for the kids' education or some other reason.

I don't think anything they said suggests they are using the term adoption in a manner equivalent to rescue. I think it suggests that the motive for the fee is cost-recovery rather than profit. $175 might be on the high end, but I don't know for sure.

Now I am going to say something that might get me alot of criticism. I am against puppy mills, pet stores, and persistent backyard breeders, but I guess I believe there are shades of gray and the occassional planned batch of non-championship, even non pure-breed, puppies is ok with me. Not everyone is up for the challenge and the possible baggage that comes with rescuing a dog. And not everyone can afford the prices of a purebreed dog from a reputable breeder. All the science that goes into the planned, reputable breeding hasn't eliminated health and temperment issues and has even introduced new problems into previously healthy lines. . . There are great mixed breed dogs out there and I guess I think good qualities can emerge from this sort of planned/random breeding.

Just my two cents. . .
Val, I don't think you should be critisized for your opinion. And we know how you feel about puppy mills, BYB's, and pet stores.

Unfortunately it is the "just one litter" mentality of pet owners that cause the bulk of the over-population problem.

http://www.spotsociety.org/fate.htm#why

I wouldn't have a problem, either, if the pups were spayed/netureed before placement or if the owners would take responsibility of the pups for life, and make sure they do not add to the already over-loaded shelter and rescue networks.

Every dog in a shelter and/or rescue was born because someone let it happen, but didn't take the responsiblity for the resulting lives. As soon at it left their home it became society's problem. And the dogs are killed because society has no choice.

Rescues and shelters did not plan for the dogs to show up, and are cleaning up the mess that someone else did.

Hey, but maybe these folks are going to have the pups spayed/neutered or will follow-up that it is done later, and will take the dog back to re-home spayed or neutered if it doesn't work out. But I doubt it.
