Powder to absorb beard stink?

In your experiences, what is the safest powder (or other substance) to use to absorb beard stink that has the best results? I don't care about color, just smell.

My problem is actually with Bear but since this is also an OES problem, I figured it was a safe topic to post. I did a search and found a lot of things about browning and a few about smelly beard but tnot too many suggestions other than cutting it-- which I have been doing but I was hoping to avoid a complete shave to the skin on the face just to kill the odor. By the looks of him, his previous owners never made much effort to wipe him down after drinking or getting wet and it just got worse and worse. Now it's so really bad. Any suggestions?

I would think vinegar and baking soda would work well?

Maybe mix it into a thin paste, push it into the beard coat with a toothbrush or something, let it dry, then brush it out? Or even rinse it out, then repeat with just baking soda, let that dry and brush it out so you're not left with a vinegar smell?
Also, some of the no rinse shampoos smell really great and whiten too. I bought some at the last show, it's called Pro Line Self Rinse Plus Whitener.
I bought it from the Rens Pets booth.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I have seen it work miracles at shows.

Mix it in equal parts? Baking soda alone isn't harmful, right? I thought about just slopping it on and hoping it might make a dent in the stench. It's so bad that if it touches me, I stink.

I've tried a few no rinse shampoos and they only seem to cover up the smell until the deodorant part of the shampoo wears off. Maybe a powder dry would be better... 8O
Well I don't think equal parts would work. I'd just dump some baking soda into a bowl, then put a little vinegar in it so that when you mix it it becomes like a thin paste so you can apply it.
Johnsons has a baby powder made from Corn Starch with a hint of Lavendar in it. Safe to use and masks the smells. Sprinkle on the beard let it sit for a minute then just brush it out.

That with the waterless shampoo should take away the smell.

Put the waterless shampoo on first, towel off then sprinkle with powder, leave it on for a minute then brush that off, helps dries the beard as well.

Good for smelly backends too
the best thing to do is to wipe chins after they eat with a damp towel. Then if they get really stinky, as well yes, some oes do have 'wet mouth' use plain ol' cornstarch or potatostarch. Keep some in a sprinkle can and just sprinkle it in and let dry then brush out.
Hooray for cornstarch! Your formula worked great, Lisa. Bear is lying on my arm, as I type, and no stink! I actually wound up doing 6 applications of waterless shampoo, gave Bear a break and then started with the powder. He has a couple of cords in the beard area so I can't really brush very well so I just sort of massaged it around and kind of patted it out.

I religiously wipe mouths and change water after all 3 of my dogs eat and drink-- all 3 breeds are bearded breeds. If I don't pay attention and I missa wipe, I end up getting soaked or used as a napkin! Just doing that has kept Clyde and Lucy stink free so hopefully, I can get Bear on the right track now.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!
WOO HOO SWEET!!

You can use that on any area to freshen them up the waterless shampoo with the corn starch powder.

I am not sure but I imagine with the Komodor breed you can't wash them all over too often especially with the cords forming, is that right?

So even around the back end, undercarriage or feet if they need a bit of a clean & sweetner there as well

No, they don't really need it either, which works out great. Dirt, for the most part, rolls right off. Bear usually likes to lie in the wettest mud puddle he can find every visit to the dog park. By the time we leave, it dries and by the end of the evening, all the dirt has rubbed off. He looks good as new in the morning. Unfortunately, because of the denser coat and the lack of brushing, when a stink does set in, in really stays if it gets in deep.

Right now, his coat is in such a wacky transistional stage that I don't know if washing would help or hinder things!

Sounds like Pyr fur! They can come in like brown mobile mountains, flop down on the tile. A few hours later they leave, leaving the dirt behind. Mud doesn't cake on the outer fur, but will on the undercoat. We shaved Glacier and I do have more trouble with mud sticking. Waiting for the outer hair to cover!!

Yup, exactly. Except Bear leaves his on the couch, sometimes in a nice dog shaped outline. ;)
