Harry's first birthday party

Harry turned one yesterday in the middle of a crazy power outage in St. Louis. Our power was off when we got up - after very little sleep. But we started out the morning singing to Harry, feeding him frosted birthday milk bones and giving him presents - which by the butt wiggle I would say he was enjoying. He had lunch at his Grandma's house where the power was also out. When we got home at 1:00 our power was finally on. However we had down power lines behind the fence in the backyard and the fire department told us not to go out in the back yard because the fence could be "hot". I had planned a little birthday party with all the doggie buddies he plays with when we walk in the neighborhood - we were supposed to have doggie cake and ice cream and I had stuff for goodie bags for the dogs to take home. I was going to make treats for the people too (cupcakes that looked like Harry's face) but my power went out the night before while I was baking. So I decided to cancel his party until the down power lines were fixed. I called the four invitees who were still planning on coming to cancel - I was only able to speak to one but left messages with the other two and tried to stop by the last house when I got no machine. I asked my husband to pick up Harry's birthday cake from the dog bakery so we had it on hand for the postponed party. That was fortuitous because at 7:00 the dogs started arriving. 8O It turns out that all of them were without phones at the very least and while they had call notes they did not get my message.

So we had an impromptu party in the FRONT yard (at 100 degrees) but Harry was so excited to see his friends he didn't care that it was hot and there were sticks and debris all over the front yard. They played though a little shorter than usual due to the heat and ate cake - some of the dogs refuse to drink out of the community drinking bowl - so they waited to get home to refuel. We gathered them together as best as we could for a group picture. After they left he opened his presents (even though we specified no gifts) with more butt wiggling - he likes this present thing! Then after playing in the air conditioning with his new toys like a crazy man and eating the whole bone that somebody brought him he finally settled down (around 10:15) and went to bed. All in all he had a very Happy Birthday!

In the confusion I forgot to get the goodie bags but I figured I would send them with the pictures I took. The first picture is Harry in the morning with his birthday bandana. The second picture is with his friends Winnie, Gracie and Genna.

Looks like they all had a great time at the party!!
What a great party!!!! Dogs like kids, dont seem to mind a little inconvience to still have a great time!!
