Just like a baby, you can't really control when your puppy sleeps. The only think you can really do is exercise the daylights out of him, so he is so tired he sleeps longer, but really, they set their own schedules based on what their body needs.

Maybe someone else would have some advice for you, but I just klet Pip sleep when he wants to, and if he gets up earlier then me, oh well, he has to stay put until I get up!
 Sounds like you and I have the same type of household right now. I am not sure where you are located but if you are here in the states, chances are it is very hot where you are as well. I have noticed that due to the heat the dogs sleep much more during the day and when it is cool in the evenings, night and morning are much more active.

This may be the case with your puppy as well.

About a 1/2 hour before going to bed we take the dogs outside and let everyone poop & pee and play with the puppy. This way she is tired and ready for bed at the same time we are. It takes her about 15-20 minutes once we put her in the crate and lights out for her to settle down and go to sleep.

I hope this information helps you with your puppy.
Howdy and welcome.

He is just probably finding the crate a bit too warm to sleep in so hence wanting to sleep on the linolium. Smart sheepie. During the day when it is hot, most will sleep and not exhibit much energy. So early morning and later at the night when the sun and heat goes down of course they are full of spunk as they have been snoozing most of the day.

Early morning walk & evening walk or mad play outside after the heat of the day has passed and I am sure your sheepie will snore his head off all night. Let him sleep on the linolium if you are experiencing quite hot weather and crate him again later after summer when he is more comfortable as not so hot for them then.

He sounds like a real sweetie and hope you get more sleep 8)
OLIVE WAS NOT HAPPY WITH HER CRATE EITHER BECAUSE OF THE HEAT, BUT IF SHE IS NOT IN THE CRATE I DON'T TRUST HER AND GET NO SLEEP. SHE WILL JUMP ON THE BED AND OFF THE BED ALL NIGHT. I WENT TO THE STORE AND GOT A HEAVY DUTY ICE PACK ONE THAT SHE COULD NOT CHEW THROUGH AND I PUT IT IN HER CRATE AT HER BUT SHE LOVES IT. WHEN I HAD MORE MONEY TO SPEND I GOT A FAN THAT HOOKS ON THE SIDE OF THE CRATE TO KEEP HER COOL. ALSO PUT A BONE OR KNOG IN THERE SO HE HAS SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH. EVEN IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO SLEEP HE CAN PLAY QUIETLY AND YOU CAN SLEEP. WORTH A TRY ANYWAY. :P
