I got mine at petsmart, but I wouldn't call them cheap. |

Lucky you! What a bargain. Our leashes are also from Petsmart or Pet Supplies Plus (a little less expensive). The leashes might cost more than your class ![]() |
I got mine at Menards- a big box home improvement store. Try also feed and livestock/farm supply stores. They will often have dog stuff cheaper then the bigger pet stores. Even a Kmart or Walmart might have something for less then Petco/petsmart.
By the way, I LOVE my leather leash... it gives you way, way better control then the nylon ones do. I'll never have anything else! |
I also love my leather leashes. They are really great. |
If a big dog show is ever in your area, look there. I got mine there really cheap. We're also lucky enough to have a local discount pet supply store where the prices are really reasonable. I got 4 foot leather leash there for $5.99. |
some of my leather leashes are 36 years old........except for the ones eaten as a dog chew in the car ![]() |
Definitely get the leather - even though they cost more. They are worth evey penny! Nylon leads are pretty, but are murder on your hands. I have leather leashes that I have had for 20 yrs, and they are the best ones. We have 2 that are "old" and some newer leather ones. It almost causes a fight at our house to get the old ones 1st!
We have the ones with no stitching or rivets. They are slit and twisted like a braid. They are the best and last forever - unless it gets chewed. Don't get over 1/2 inch wide either. Anything over 1/2 inch is too hard to deal with, just too much leash for your hand to hold. If you absolutely can't swing the leather, I would recommend cotton (flat woven) as a second choice. They are fairly inexpensive. In our local store, they are found in the hunting supply area, not with the other leashes. I recommend running the lead (the cotton ones) through the washer before using - they are kind of stiff when new. For my students, I recommend leads in this order: leather, cotton, nylon and never chain. We use 6 ft, not 4 ft length leads too. Have fun with your dogs in school! |
