Morals, Ethics and Politics

It was suggested that any further comments on another thread be sent here, to the Food for Thought section.

I can't help but wonder how anyone can give an honest comment or advice on anything that doesn't include their morals, ethics or the politics thereof.

These are the things that make us who we are. The things that give us our beliefs and opinions. They are the things that we refer to when commenting to one another.

Morals - Ethics, Right - Wrong. My theory, using the Bible is that people can read the same verses and get two differnent meanings from what they read. But when the time is right, God will open their eyes and show His truth.

We can hide morals, ethics and politics in the Food for Thought section, and choose not to go there, but that doesn't make these things go away. It only allows them to esculate into bigger things.

It use to be that things considered evil (wrong) were done in the darkness, behind closed doors. Now days there done in the light, right out in the open. But, that doesn't mean these things have changed from bad to good, it only means that we've accepted wrong for right.

The Food For Thought section is no more or less visible and accessible than any other section on the forum.

Each individual has their own opinions... their own set of morals, ethics, and beliefs. We each have the right to express our own, but we also have the right to choose whether we want to take anyone elses to heart or not.

Experience and knowledge does not have to include any of these. I can give you advise on cooking (which I wouldn't because I don't cook)) and it would not include morals.

But if I also included my opinion that eating meat shouod be banned because of the treatment that animals get before and in the slaughterhouse, then I am offering my opinion...and that is developed from my own personal morals.

I guess advise is usually developed from facts, but only those facts that the person giving the advise wants to use. And those "facts" may not even be valid, but just assumed due to a preior experience or someone else's advise.

A comment or suggestion is less based on truth, but maybe more of a feeling about something that may change with the next piece of information introduced.

Morals, ethics and beliefs are much more personal and can be so different from one person to another, based on their environment, upbringing, religion, experiences and knowledge.

As for hiding things in the Food for Thought section, I guess if it is possible to offend people then maybe this is the place for it, or where it can be moved to....for discussion of that particualr view or belief.

People feel strongly about being able to speak thier minds, and give thier opinions etc. and that is fine. I guess if there is something that might offend someone else it should be taken off the other parts of the forum. We all kind of know what could be offensive to others, so should be sensitive enough to that.
Please don't be offended that, in my opinion, a discussion on the pros and cons of the abortion debate should not happen in the midst of a post by a person obviously in the throes of a personal crisis. I just felt that if you all wished to continue the discussion it was more appropriate in another venue. I think this paticular poster was simply looking for a bit of emotional support and perhaps some suggestions on how others would handle the situation.

I support the right of anyone to have spirited discussions on any subject they chose but I also think we need to be sensitive about where those discussions occur.

The "Food for Thought" section is not a closed door but it is an area where people go, if they chose to discuss those difficult issues. Isn't that the reason for forum headings and the seperation of subject matter into different catagories?

I should've left out the words "Food for Thought section".

What I actually meant was "We can hide morals, ethics and politics and choose not to go there, but that doesn't make these things go away.

I can see how and why that was misunderstood, poor choice of wording on my part - sorry.
