Dixie is being adopted....

It is with very mixed feelings that I write this note. :? :?

Last week a potential family came to my place to meet Dixie. They really liked her and the next day we took Dixie over to visit at thier place, and check out the yard and the house. We took a little walk around the block and rested in the shady gardens.

Then yesterday Dixie spent most of the afternoon with them, all by herself like a big girl. When I dropped her off she was a bit skittish and unsure, but when I picked her up 4 hours later she jumped up on the couch beside me and then showed me where her and her new mom had been cuddling while watching some TV. In true sheepie fashion she had insisted on lying on top of her, with a paw on either side of her face. :) We took Dixie back home for the rest of the day and nite.

This morning we brought her back over again and she is having a sleepover. I just called to see how she was doing and so far so good. She has been very good, pottied outside, lay under the table during meals, and was considerate enough to lay on a visotr's feet instead of her lap tonite. :D

My heart is breaking as I think of that little face.

I am sad for you that Dixie will be leaving but it sounds like she will be going to a great home. Plus she knows that you will now have room to foster another one...

Plus I guess you told the new owners that a requirement is to join the forum? Especially since we'll all miss her as well!
Sounds like you found the perfect home for her.
I totally understand the mixed emotions as you have had her in your home for quite a while. You have done wonders for her and nursed her back to a healthy dog.
I hope everything works out with these people. Sounds like they already adore her. But then again who wouldn't!
Big hugs to you and Dixie.
I know you'll be sad to see her go. Bet Bosley is going to miss her too. Do the people live near enough for play dates?
So great of you to take her in and care for her. Hope it works out for everyone.
Awwww..... good job Nicole *hugs*
I understand how happy and sad you must be. You've done such a great job with Dixie. Here's praying that her new family is forever!
You did an amazing job with Dixie, and I am so happy that you were able to find her a good home. And please please tell her new owners to keep us updated on the forum!!

They live in town here, about 5 minutes away from me. They use the same vet as me, so that makes everything sooooooo much easier. They have a full understanding of her medical needs, and no need to break in a new vet.

I am here for doggie-sitting as required, play dates, training information etc.etc. etc.

Tomorrow we will know if it is a go for sure, but I am pretty sure it is going to work out.
Since his surgery 4 weeks ago Bosley and Dixie have had to be kept seperated, so they were only together at nite, in the bedroom.
Awwww Nicole.... some of us thought you'd keep her...

They simply MUST join the forum, we can't lose Dixie!
Awww Nicole this is a mixed blessing! Good for Daisey and thanks to you she found a great home! The new owners must join the forum because Panda with be lost without her rightous sense of being......plus I think she just likes to see how she bosses Bosley around :D

Who's Daisy?
I meant Dixie, I had just read a post about Daisey...lol...okay so I am an idiot...leave me alone! :?
Awww so good and sad at the same time. You have done an amazing job with Dixie and bought her a long way too in care, trust and love. Must be so hard to see her go but happy she is going to be in a loving furever home.

Also the fact you can see her on occassions is wonderful, yep play dates, doggie sitting and help and advice for her new family. WAY TO GO NICOLE you are an angel and such a great job and well done too for all that you did for Dixie. :D
Hi,

I can imagine how you feel...happiness mixed with sadness. A successful foster story..Dixie was like a flower you neutered, provided roots for and then allowed her to blossom under your care.

Fosters have a special place as it's due to their unselfishness that others can be helped. Hugs to you.

Marianne, I am sure you meant nurtured. LMAO.... but your typing error gave me a big laugh...

Egads!!! I did mean nurtured...where the heck is powder to hid my red face!!!

guess neutered was on my mind...as perhaps thinking about nipping it in the bud...ohhh that's baaaad. (slaps self and makes note...not to type anything in the wee hours of the morning, not in the early hours at least until 2 cups of coffee have been drunk.) 8O

Marianne aka Red Face
You guys and your typos are CRACKING me up!! I thought I had the market cornered on typing faster than my brain thinks!!!

Nicole, hard as it is it sounds like a win win for everybody!! You did a great job with Dixie and now she'll have a great furever home, WELL DONE!
As great as it is that Dixie may have found her forever home it is still sad that you'll be losing her, Nicole. At least you'll still get to see her and she'll be close in case you need a Dixie fix.

I think the typos were a nice touch to lighten up the mood. Good work with that everybody! :P
Oh Nicole! I know you're happy for Dixie to find a good home and that she is still close enough for visits & play dates. It is always hard to give up your foster dogs, but especially after all you've been through with Dixie. You've done an amazing job with her.
That is terrific news! I know it is bittersweet too but it is just phenomenal how far Dixie has come with you and I am thrilled she has found a loving, permanent home. I really hope the new family will join the forum so we can stay up to date on her antics. If not, you will have to take lots of pictures when Dixie and Bosley have playdates. . . Congratulations on an outstandingly successful foster experience.
Oh wow - what a big transition for you and your family. Good for you for finding a loving home close by. Good luck with everything - take lots of pictures and visit lots. Keep us up-dated of course. She's a good girl because of you!!!

Mine is breaking at the thought of no more pictures of her cute little face or stories of how precious she is.

You deserve to be commended for all that you did for her. I hope it will not be so sad for you to let her go. It seems like she was easy to get attached to and I was hoping you might keep her too. That is amazing that you are so selfless to allow another family to enjoy her.

Good thing the family is close. Hopefully you can visit often! Hope Bosley gets well soon. It must be really hard to keep them separate.
Nicole, you were an angel for Dixie when she needed someone most, and she blossomed under your love and care. It's great that she'll be so close to you! Please see if you can get her new owners to join the forum. She's one of the sweetest sheepies around and we'll be lost without her!
Nicole, you should be very proud of yourself, you made Dixie the sweet girl she has become :) I'm sure her new family will love her as much as you do and provide her with a wonderful life. I hope they join the forum so we can stay updated on her progress, and perhaps they would like to bring Dixie to the picnic so we can all meet her (and Bosley too, of course).
I saw her yesterday    She was scratching at one of her hot spots so the potential new mom took her to the vet (same vet as I use). They then came over to my place and I gave it the once over, and showed her all the other hot spots to watch for. I never realized how I have Dixie's skin condition committed to memory, and good see which hot spots were fairly recent, old, re-occuring

Dixie then raced around my yard and got a little silly and wild for a bit :P :P She was very happy to jump back into her car and settled nicely into the back seat.

The woman is so afraid that Dixie may have skin cancer, as she lost both of her last dogs to cancer. But she absolutely adores her, and says she is being so good, house-training is great, no counter-surfing or food stealing, chewing, barking etc. She is friendly and greets new visitors but is not annoying to them. ...Yet... I explained about the honeymoon period :P :P

This week I will try to go over and show her OES.org. I am not sure how computer literate she is, but I do hope she will join.

I will mention the picnic. We won't know if we are going for anoother week or so, due to Bosley's eye. The check-up today was great, though!

And as for all the work put into Dixie, thanks, guys....but you are making me blush    She was a huge amount of time and effort and had us on an emotional rollow-coaster for 4 and a half months, but it was well worth it. She taught ME so much. Hopefully I can use it again.
