lapse in potty training?

Ah well, I knew it was too good to be true to have my baby girl housetrain so quickly. She is 17 weeks old and has been so good about it, holding it all night right from the day she came home. I have had to take some time off this week, due to my two boys getting suspended from school for getting in a fight on the school yard (with each other, over a jelly bean believe it or not) and it seems this has disrupted Dancer's schedule, she has been having a few accidents this week, especially today, and we have been home with her all day! She still held it all night last night, stuck her tongue in my ear at 6 am to let me know it was time to get up and did her thing outside, however, 10 minutes later she peed on the floor. Then after she ate I took her out again, waiting for her to poop, and after about 20 minutes I figured maybe she didn't have to go. We came back in, and a few minutes later she pooped on the floor. *sigh* I'm not sure why she is doing this all of a sudden.... but I guess it's back to potty breaks every hour to avoid accidents.... anyone else have sudden lapses in housetraining?

Willowsprite...Our puppy Jules is 13 weeks old. For the most part she is trained, but she still has the occasional accident. Our problem is that she thinks the only room downstairs that has carpet is "grass". She will not go on the hardwoods...but the carpet. The good part about her housetraining is that she goes on demand when she is outside. I guess we just need patience, patience and more patience :D
Sounds as if all our pups are pretty much going through the same stage. Drake just can not resist sprinkling on the carpet downstairs. He went through a little relapse up stairs but that is starting to correct itself and he is definitly starting to show signs of knowing when he has to go but sometimes has a hard time waiting for me to get his leash or my shoes on ect. but that is getting better also. It is funny because it reminds me so much of potty training me kids but instead of going to the restroom we have to go outside

Willowsprite I also have found that Drake has more accidents when the boys are home from school. He can go all day without an accident but when the boys get home I think he is so excited he forgets. I think also that I get more distracted and busy with other things that I miss Drake signs of having to go. It may also be because the kids always sneak snacks to Drake and then he Drinks more and pretty much what goes in one end something soon comes out the other. Also. Drake naps pretty much most of the day while the boys are gone and is then up the rest of the day to play. It is all pretty much of a combination of all the above. Boy writing this all down helped me to figure out what was going on, now for the plan of attack. One more thing that I have realized a while back is that I can not let my boys take Drake out to go to the bathroom because he just thinks it is play time and does not get the job done. They are great walkers but have no patience to keep calm long enough for Drake to get his job done. Funny story, This is really or first puppy that the boys have been old enough to help train and my younger son Trevor thought when Drake sat down he was going poo. He kept on coming in and told me Drake went and sure enough Drake would go in the house. It took me about a week to figure out what was going on  Now as I said before going out is nothing but play time for them. Sorry I have been long winded but like I said before typing this all out has been pretty theraputic (hope I spelled that right) 8)
Willowsprite, Could she be trying to get MOM's attention - now that the BOYS are interfering with her MOM time????
Intradan and brit... I think it is a combination of both those things. I went to work today and my husband took the day off to watch them, and he didn't have as many puddles by the sound of it, but when I got home she had 3! I think the boys being rambunctious has a lot to do with it, but I also think maybe Dancer is at a slightly insecure stage. I left a note for the mail man to knock on my door to meet the pup yesterday (I don't want her barking at him every day) so he did and she barked at first and then seemed really submissive towards him which she doesn't usually seem that way. Maybe his visit scared her as well? I am really trying to make sure she is well socialized, but some people she just doesn't seem to like. The mail man is not someone I know nad maybe she sensed that and just decided he wasn't a friend.
Anyway, we are changing our routine a little now to see if it helps. Because most days we both have to work and the kids are at school Dancer is on her own for approximately 6 hours. I leave just before 9 am and come home at lunch to spend 15 or 20 minutes with her and then the kids are home shortly after 3 pm. So now, instead of taking her out more frequently I am going to try keeping to the same schedule when we are home as if we are at work. I'm hoping when she is praised a lot for going at those times she and her body will get used to going only at those times. I know she can hold it, she just doesn't sometimes. So, I guess we'll see what happens.
She is still very young - so there are bound to be some relapses. I'm sure you'll pick back up where you left off! Sometimes the dogs are better "judges" about people than we are - if they don't seem to like someone in particular - there's probably a good reason why!

Good Luck! You sound like you are doing a great job raising a wonderful little girl - who will knock them dead in the show ring one of these days!

Our boy max has been awesome since we got him at 8 weeks he is now 13 weeks and has been almost perfect with small tinkle incidents BUT yesterday we had a couple mishaps in our kitchen within hours and kitchen is currently being remolded. Our midday dog walker forget to walk him but since i am home early i got hm out for a long fun walk and he went right away. My wife and I then took him on our exercise walk and he was fine but after we had a bite to eat and went to inspect the work our contractor did we found 2 tinkle and 2 poop mishaps we do not know when he could have done it..I hope this is just a one time event...
Dougals now four months he has always been very good with training. Even now I always if I go out without him. leave newspaper by the back door in case he gets taken short. He did a couple of times and I forgot to put the paper down. He was so upset I never forget now. So far he has not used the paper for two months but it does give him the peace of mind its there if needed I could get stuck in traffic or breakdown anything. luv pepe
Can I ever relate to this post! I thought I was blessed with Merlin as he seemed so easy to train at such a young age. The first week bringing him home I took him outside round the clock every two hours. He picked up on it quickly.

Or so I thought...ha ha! My teenage son whom works full time with his dad stays with me every weekend. After a few months I think Merlin viewed him as competition and when he was stretched out on the couch...Merlin would go behind it...and lift his leg and peed on the back of the couch! GRRRR all this testostorone! Luckily, this phase passed and I haven't had the misfortune of finding any more "accidents".

I think it's considered "normal" for a pup to fall off their routine or schedules with any changes in the household...luckily it doesn't last long.

Well, Dancer is doing better with peeing outside, but now she's pooping inside! I'm not sure why, she always goes out first thing in the morning and pees, I wait a bit to see if she's ready to poop but she never is. So we come in and I make sure her food and water bowls are full and she nibbles a bit while I have my tea and my husband and I take turns showering and getting ready for work. I take her out again, knowing she always poops in the morning after she eats a bit, and wait..... and wait..... and wait.... then we come in and she does it right on the kitchen floor. I think after a few times she has come to prefer the substrate of linoleum to poop on rather than grass. Yesterday and today I actually took her poop outside and put it where I want her to go so she'll sniff it there and hopefully have the desire to go, but nope. Didn't work. Any suggestions?
She's 18 weeks old, and has done so well up till now, with the occasional accident... but generally really well. And it's not loose stools or anything, so I know it's not a control issue.
