Got a Sheepdog question...

Hopefully this is the right place for this question....I got an OES a little while ago. She's 13 months now, and the light of my life, but I'm starting to wonder if she's possibly a cross...she has the build and the personality of an OES, and the markings, but she's got a very slick, sleek coat that is still only about 2 inches long. I don't care if she is a hybrid or a mutt or what, she's mine and she's fabulous, but I'd really like to know. I can't find anything online about sleek-coated OESs (this is what the breeder called her), or shorthaired ones for that matter. Does anyone know if there are such variants, or what? I can't find anything online.

can you post a picture? It would help to see a picture, but by the sound of it, she doesnt sound pure breed.
Old English everywhere are renowned for their coats, so I doubt if she's completely pure-bred. She sounds like a really sweet girl, though, and I'm anxious to see her pictures! :D
She sounds like a border collie maybe, I would love to see pics of her, she sounds like a doll! :)
Please post some pictures.

I was thinking the Powlish Loland Sheepdog, or the one they used in the new Shaggy Dog movie, a Bearded Collie...but both these have longer coats, but they feel silkier than an OES.

Border collie's have a shaggy shorter coat...and they are often black and white, and a slender type of body.

There is no such thing as sleek hair OES, sorry you were taken. We'd love to see her tho, she sounds pretty.
Hi Sunna7 :D
<<< Cassie...in a clipped summer cut
Cassie is 3 yrs & an OESX...her personality is all OES but she has silky hair with a bit of a curve & a feathery tail...her coloring is more white w/black splotches!! Her hair was 4-5 inches before the trip to the groomer 8O
She is very easy to brush especially with a few sprays of THE STUFF

Thanks for that link Diane! I've been looking for that forever and couldn't remember the name of the company :)
Thanks for the responses, everyone. Yep, I guess 'taken' would be the word, and that does bother me a bit, but I can't really whine, because she's pretty amazing.. Ok, here she is (I hope I know how to do this right - give me a shout if they don't post). Let me know what you think.

She is definitely a border collie mix or mostly border collie, maybe a bit of lab, maybe even a bit of husky. Her face reminds me of a husky mix rescue I had last year.
I don't think there is any oes in her at all, but she IS absolutely gorgeous!! :) What a sweet looking dog! :)
I'm thinking
Border Collie X Lab
or
Border Collie X Golden
or maybe even
BC X OES.

That head/snout does look alot like my dog when he's shaved, but the short hair is not OES.

But the color is all black and white...that's why I'm taking a chance that it's a BC X OES.

But I'm no pro at this AT ALL, just guessing for fun.
Aw, she's a pretty girl but definitely not an OES-- maybe a border collie mix? The thing is, now that you've fallen in love her, it's not really being taken, you know? You have a great dog you love and that's all that matters. However, if she has papers, I would report the breeder because she's not selling what she claims to be selling.

There was another member that posted awhile back that had a puppy that looked a lot like yours asking the same questions. Her breeder also told her to "give it time because it takes the hair awhile to come in so that's why she doesn't look like an OES yet." I wonder if both of your pups came from the same place. I'll search for the post so you can compare.
Hi :D
Rosie is absolutely beeeeautiful :hearts:
Gee, she is so clean...almost *sparkling*
Such a lucky pupper no matter the breed or cross
Thanks for sharing her pix...hope you stick around the OES Forum!
It's a friendly bunch 8)

I remembered that dog from a few months ago too. I would definitely report the breeder if she is selling these dogs as OES.

But, on a brighter note, Rosie is so pretty! She looks like she is so happy and loved, and that's what really matters.
Good find, Jill!

I PM'd Karen, the owner of Princess in those pics to ask ehr if there was any update from her breeder, since we hadnt' heard from her in about a year.

Hopefully, she'll log on and fill us in!
Holy cow - that looks a lot like Rosie!! I wonder if it was the same breeder who sold her? I got the same story about giving it time - up to two years, which was when I started wondering, because that seemed like a while. Well, I'm definitely not sorry I got her - she's my baby. But I will report the breeder- people should know what they're getting, after all. I've heard BC X OES from a co-worker too, so maybe that's it. She sure does like to herd groups of people, and me when we walk, so there must be some kind of herder breed in there somewhere. :-) She also smiles and nods like a person when she's happy or excited - is that breed trait for BC or OES or anything else that sounds familiar to anybody?
I'm glad I found this place - thanks everybody! I feel much better knowing!
I really don't think that other one has an ounce of oes in her either though.....
no matter what she is, she is just beautiful!! She looks so ladylike and sweet!

I agree! She's a really pretty dog and does look so shiny too. I've never seen a dog with her coloring -- she is really striking.
Rosie is just lovely, welcome to the forum and look forward to seeing more piccys of your girl :D No matter what she is, she is one pretty baby, congratulations :D
She's very cute and loveable. She looks a lot like a Border Collie - still a lot of herder in her!!!!!!!!!
She is a beauty! And like you said, she's your baby regardless of her breed. What a lovely and lucky girl! Thanks for sharing her pictures with us and welcome to the forum. :D
