Is there a way to help animals with this? I know my ILs give their schnauzer some type of meds from the vet, but I was wondering if you could help in an unmedicated way? Joy gets VERY carsick - even the short trip to the vet, she got sick. Good thing she's small enough to fit in a kennel, but she still gets it all over herself. :/ Has anyone dealt with this before?
I only have sympathy, no suggestions. My dog growing up got carsick...and it could only be a trip a few blocks away to the vet. We basically just stopped taking her places in the car unless absolutely necessary...
I forget how old you said Joy is?

After having dealt with the same issue myself, please refer to thread http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=6906 and comments there what we do.

Vet said that some puppies get motion sick but usually outgrow it by 4-6 months. If they still get sick after that age it's an anxiety issue primarily because the dog remembers getting sick which causes the anxiety.

Start with small (like 5 minutes) trip to someplace fun like a park, etc. Try giving treats in the car why it's not moving. Whatever you can do to make the pup think that the car isn't such a bad place.

Good news is that most dogs outgrow car sickness by age 3. Things have settled down with my issues with Frank in the car, thankfully.

Thanks Verve. She's about 6 months old (best guesstimate from shelter and vet). Hopefully she'll outgrow it soon. *Fingers crossed*
