We're getting a Desert Tortoise!!!

Looks like we will be trading little Turquoise (Ryan's red earred slider turtle) for a Desert Tortoise. :excited:

I can't wait to get rid of the gross little turtle. He is also on the neurotic side. Anytime I came near the tank he jumps into the water from his perch and goes to the bottom and starts digging. I hate fishtanks... and boy do water turtles make a mess. ( I did not purchase this turtle...my sister bought it for Ryan after I told her he could have any kind of turtle but an aquatic turtle... She doesn't like me very much!!! ) All it does is swim, eat and poop) Ryan would love a tortoise that he could feed and walk around the yard and follow him.

We will be getting the Tortoise on a trail basis. Even Billy is excited 8O
This Tortoise not in the Desert right now and I think he would really enjoy being in desert. We have sand and grass and shade and lot of places to go in the yard.

I hope this works out. The only problem I forsee is Rags
Pepsi had absolutely no reaction to Darcy's turtle last year. Maybe Rags might have no reaction too :plead:
Wish us luck!!

Congratulations! They are so cute!

Hope you have duct tape. :cow:
I guess I never saw a trutle as having that much personality......they aren't very warm and fuzzy 8O . But HEY CONGRATULATIONS!!! Happy turtleing!! :D
Believe it or not, tortoises can be very affectionate....welll, in a turtle kinda way...they do follow you around, will let you pet them(they like to have their shells scratched and their heads lightly petted).

Make sure you build a den that has a cinder block floor so he cant dig out and escape, I think there are plans on the internet somewhere, I also know that the den opening needs to face North East.....ill take some pictures tonight E so you can get a better idea

Tell Ryan that I am so happy for him...Has he picked out a name yet?
How exciting! Cannot wait to see pictures
Actually, thinking about it.... If I am remembering correctly the Tortoise is a female, named Dora the Explorer.
We met her a few months ago when we went to visit. The woman that has her was Ryan's preschool and daycare lady.
Everyone always dumps animals on her. She has so many animals.
Birds, fish, a Rabbit, cat, dog, Iguana... I am sure there are more.

I am calling her today to talk more about it.
Hmmm... Teresa kept saying him. I wonder if he is a boy and they called him by a girls name. I'll ask again when we pick him up.
We did find out he is 95 yrs old :cow: I'll have to introduce his to my Grandmother. He'll make her feel young at 93. LMAO

He or She is coming to his or her new home on Friday afternoon. :yay:

She also tried to pawn off her Bunny on me. I guess she thinks I am more of a sucker than she is for animals.... Though that is not true.
She has taken in birds, lizards, the tortoise...the bunny. 8O
She always says yes when people ask her if she'll take their unwanted animals.... Too bad she wouldn't take Peanut :?
Very cool pet!
NINETY FIVE YEARS OLD???????????????????????????? 8O 8O
What a picture, Ryan and his turtle :D How long do they live?
I was told 80 - 100 yrs. But it could be longer depends on the Turtle.
This one is coming from the Coast...where the temps are different...back into the Desert and it's natural habitat. I hope it likes it here. :?
How exciting, and interesting too.
