New Addition

We did bring Blue Girl home with us today. The initial meeting went as well as could be expected. For the most part, they chose to ignore each other. There was a little tension as we got in the car, but they quickly went to far sides and stayed there for the entire three hour drive back (with potty breaks, of course). Since we got home, Blue Boy has seemed a little resentful of the new dog in the house, snapping at her, growling, and even peeing in the floor -- something he never does anymore. Blue Girl is extremely sweet and affectionate, very much a cuddler, so he may feel she is encroaching on his territory. I'm hoping they'll adjust in the next few days. She really is a total sweetheart.

One thing we're concerned about is her weight. She's skin and bones. We were warned that she was a counter surfer and food thief, but now I'm thinking she was just starving and trying to get food. I thought Blue Boy was thin when we rescued him, but she's downright emaciated. I can stink my fingers about an inch deep between each of her ribs. Her vet records show she was 70 pounds in January, but we weighed her when we got home and she's less than 60 now. We haven't seen any signs of submissive behavior yet either.

Right now, both Blues are cuddling with Jon in bed. It's so cute! I hope everything works out.

I'd take her to a vet immediately, make sure she is dewormed etc....
She sounds like a doll! I hope it all goes well :)
Yes Josh get her thoroughly checked out. She sounds just gorgeous. Poor wee sweetie. How can someone starve an animal like that. It's awful isn't it. Be sure to give Blue Boy plenty of attention too and I'm sure they'll be fine.
Congratulations!!!! Time and patience will work wondrs. Poor Blue Boy has been an only for long enough to like it!!!! He'll adjust and learn that there is a place in your heart for all the Blues :D

Blue girl will get helathy strong and plump up under your love and care :D But be FOREWARNED...................Once a counter surfer ALWAYS a counter surfer  . I believe that there is an OES counter surfing gene, passed on to some and not to others.

Tasker is a counter surfer and NOTHING is safe, just last night as I climbed into bed I heard the tell tale sound of a zip lock back hitting the floor. SUre enough, dashing to the kitchen I arrived just in time to save my fresh baked banana bread from being his bed time snack. Last week I was a little too slow tidying up from breakfast and he started his day with 5 bagels (the really good bagel store kind :( )
Yay! Thank you for rescueing Blue Girl! I too hope that all goes well.

Give her a rub for me please, behind the right ear.

Congratulations!! Umm, did I miss the picture that goes along with that?

Get your camera out! This is good stuff.

It can be hard with a new dog because your natural instincts might be to take sides when really they need to sort it out. It was a bit rough going the first few weeks with Maggie and Chumley. They fought a couple times but it was nothing serious.

In our case, the issue was Maggie testing Chum's limits -- space, toys, bed, etc. I tended to put Maggie in the crate if she did not heed Chum's warnings. I wasn't not sure whether I was supposed to support Maggie's challenge for alpha role, recognizing that sweet Chummie might not be the alpha in that relationship.

But I guess I concluded that it was Maggie's fault for causing tension to escalate and Maggie needed to know that I don't tolerate that. As between them and me, I am in charge and they are not allowed to fight. I don't even remember the last time they had a problem. Maggie now licks Chummie's cheeck pretty regularly.

Good luck with your pair! I hope it works out. She sounds like a honey and they are both so darn cute.
Josh and Jon,

Am so excited for you guys and your new baby. I would definitely get her checked out by your vet just to make sure there are not medical issues that need addressing. And do I ever have words of encouragement with regards to the dogs weight. We rescued Sam at the end of April - extremely underweight - now chunk. I just posted a message about it the other day here:

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=8500

I did notice that once Sam realized the food was going to keep coming - he is not a counter surfer or a beggar at all.

Good luck guys and hope Blue #1 and Blue #2 get along great.

Now just need photos of Blue's Clues!
Congrats!!! I cant wait to see the 2 Blues together!!! Sounds like you have the perfect well rounded family now! :D
LOL Valerie... no pictures of the furballs sleeping with Jon. He was on in his underwear and I don't think he'd appreciate those going up on the internet!!

We've been calling her Belle, as I think someone on here suggested. We decided we liked the sound of it, and it fits since she's quite beautiful.

They're already getting along much better. They've been playing all day. Here are a couple pictures, one is an action shot! In both of them, Blue is on the left and Belle is on the right.

You found a matched set!!!!!!! :D Awwwww!
Fantastic!!! Looks like sheepie heaven! They really do look like littermates. It is very cute. Belle is a beautiful name for a beautiful girl and it sounds just great with Blue too. Congratulations. . .
They are absolutely darling together. I think they look like a perfect pair!!! :D I hope you get her weight issue worked out - let us know what the vet thinks. From her pic it looks like 60 lbs is WAY under for her height. :?
AWWWWWWWW what a great looking pair!!!! I think Belle is a perfect name!!!
Just wonderful, Belle is gorgeous and the name is just perfect :D

Lovely photos of Blue and Belle, they make such a cute couple

Best wishes with the two of them and great to see them bonding :D
LOL :D That was a quick warmup for the two! Love the pictures, love the name Belle, love that everyone is happy!
What great pictures! They both look very happy :D
My two are sleeping inches from each other. They have really developed a strong bond and always have to see where the other one went if one walks out of the room.
As I right this I am looking at Rags cleaning Pepsi's ears. He turned his head to give her a kiss. Awww Sheepie Love

Congrats to all of you! :D
Thanks so much for rescuing her! She is just darling. The pictures of them together are priceless. FEED HER. That makes me mad about her being underweight

I am so happy she has a great home now where she will have food and LOVE.
Congratulations!!! They look so cute together :hearts:
Just catching up from the week-end and saw this wonderful story!! Congratulations on adopting Belle!! :go: She's beautiful and looks SO adorable with Blue!

You're in for hours of fun!! Enjoy! :high5:
When I was little we had a floppy eared rabbit named Blue Bell. He was a blue/grey color and wore a collar with a blue bell on it.
Belle and Blue has a nice ring to it, congrats on your new addition :) They already look as if they get along well together.
Oh! It looks like a match :clappurple:
The pictures are wonderful and they look like they're havin' fun!
Thanks for the update :D
Congrtulations- that is so awesome!!

Feed her well and get some more weight on her!!!
That's so cute, now you can yell at them outside and the neighbours will hear..."BlueBelle" "BlueBelle"...you have the beginning's of a beautiful friendship between the dogs.

Soon they will be inseparable, and she will look better. They really do look the same too, it will be hard for us to tell them apart.
