How You know Your dog Trusts You....

The dog does something it does not want to do, but does it anyway without being forced......

Due to recent surgery my Bosley boy needs to have eye drops three times a day. He was not impressed, and neither was I. At first I had to get someone to hold him while I pried open his eye and dropped the liguid in. This is your EYE was are talkiing about...Yuk! What a struggle and commotion. Anyway, this dear sweet boy will now just sit there nicely while I do it all by myself. No holding, forcing or anything. We do it really quick and he gets a nice little treat for not fighting me over it.

We just put a swing on our back yard. Hubby told me the other day that Bolsey LOVES the swing. When Don sits there and calls Bosley he will climb right up onto his lap and then lay across the swing and enjoy the breeze.

Tonite Don told me how he cannot get Dixie on the swing. She is afraid of it and runs away each time he calls her over to it. As he is explaining this to me I am sitting there and call Dixie. She walks over, puts her front paws up beside me, hubby reaches over to lift her and I stop him. You cannot force trust. Dixie hops up all by herself, lays her front legs over my lap and we swing away in the breeze.

Dixie completely trusts her mom (that being me) so doesn't hesitate at all.

Examples of how your dog completly trusts you are welcome.

Nice story Bosley's mum.

Ariki has always completely trusted me. I didn't train him to lie still while stepping over him. He has always allowed me to do it and he has never blinked an eyelid.

They must love us very much musn't they.
Maggie lets me poke my fingers between her toe pads.
Panda comes to me when I call, no matter what and she lets me cut her hair around her mouth and eyes...and I know she hates those scissors...my sweetie pie!
What a great story, Nicole...and nice to finally see what you look like too! Annie lays completely still when I clean her ears which always amazes me and almost always lays still for grooming. We never had dogs that did this.

I forgot to say that too! I was so caught up in trying to think of examples! I absolutely love what you are doing for Dix and Bos. . .
Jack still ownes his food bowl, but he will let me clean and pluck his ears, trim the hair between his toes, squeeze the icky puss pockets on his elbows, pull the dry dingleberries and brush/scrape his teeth. I may never win the food bowl, but he will eat daintly off a fork and gently take food from me (not my husband). I'm so proud of this guy!

We need more work on toe nails........
What a great post. I love the picture too. I don't think I've seen a picture of you before :)
I don't look like that anymore. 8O

I just got my hair cut very short....Too hard to keep decent looking when driving around in the 83 Mustang convertible.... 8) 8)
Good examples, Nicole. It's so great that Dixie and Bosley have you!

In the past month Genevieve has finally allowed me to clean her ears and put medicine in them for the infection she gets off and on. I've been so proud of her. No one else can touch her ears, but she does let Mommy do it. :D

Show us your new haircut! :D
Barney will let me pick up and remove his food bowl while he is eating. He will let me reach in and grab pieces of his food (one day I was going to fill his kong with kibble and realized I had given him too much in his bowl AND kong, so I wanted to take the food in the bowl and put it in the kong). He won't let my husband reach for his bowl.

He will lie completely still for me when I brush him.

He will sit perfectly still when we are removing a tick from him, even though it must be uncomfortable.
Pogo and I were Mt. Biking at a nearby lake. We go in the winter-time only to avoid the weeds, ticks, etc.
We had travelled about 3 miles when I noticed that my OES had just gotten into a thorn briar (in Oklahoma, these are like wild rose bushes and the stem was about 2-3' long). It had wrapped tightly against his stomach tangling his hair. Had we gone much further, the thorns would have cut into him badly. He still wanted to run though. He came to me when called and allowed me to work it out of his fur even though it was against his soft tummy. Dogs that are hurting are usually less trusting, it was nice that he trusted me enough to know that I was going to help him.
