Happy Father's day !

Wishing all of you men happy Father's day, whether your kids are kids, or puppies.

Fathers make and shape the future. Its a big responsibly.

My own dad is gone, about 10 years now. I still miss him everyday. But each day, I'm grateful I had one of the "good" ones. He was a pip! He was a Judge, and just about the funniest man you could ever meet.

Quick story number 1: He always keep my sister and I from anything he felt was dangerous. Stupid stuff, like skiing, swimming where it was too deep. Very protective. But when we would have big winter storms, he'd pile us in the car and we'd go off looking for downed power lines!!!!

Quick story number 2: My father had one drink everyday after work. He'd never have two, and he'd never drink on the weekends. Just one after work. He had a friend who was a doctor who told him to, because it would be good for his health. He'd stand at the kitchen sink, with a shot glass of Crown Royal, and shoot it. He'd make the most disturbed faces..he hated the taste.

One Sunday moring, I work up early...he was standing at the kitchen sink with his shot glass. I was shocked! "Dad! What are you doing?" He said he was trying to replace the lock in front door and couldn't!!! Remeber, he was a Jewish Judge and not very domestic!

Quick story number 3: I didn't marry until I was 33. I lived alone. I always worked on Saturday, only because I didn't have much else to do. Every Saturday, without fail, he'd show up at my work with a brown paper bag. It always contained, 1. Best Kosher salami chub, and 3. fresh oranges. I think he thought this was the food that sustained life.

So...dad's remember this is the sort of stuff your kids will remember and pass to their kids.

Ralph, happy Father's Days. I'm sorry to report the Sox aren't as good this year, but we did have last year. You know, I brought that World Championship pendant to you last year. Hey guy...I miss you.

Happy Father's day to all.

Your dad sounds like he was fun! Your stories reminded me of my own dad and some of the funny things he did. He broke a rib once when he was jumping up and down on the trash in the barrel trying to smash it down. He fell head first into the empty barrel next to it. That was the first trip to the E.R. Another time he bet my two brothers that he could run faster than them. Everyone jumped up from the supper table and went outside. My mother waved her dinner napkin and they all shot off down the street. My dad fell and broke his wrist! That was the second trip to the E.R. When one of the people on staff asked how the accident happened, he said "Hey! Aren't you the guy that fell in the trash barrel?" Yup! One and the same! I sure miss my dad. He was truly the best!
My father-in-law was a better father to me in the 10 years I knew him than my own dad ever was. Bless his soul my FIL is no longer with us, but my own dad is.

I'm still not decided if I will be a hypocrite and call him.

For you folks with great dads....give then big hugs on this special day... you are indeed blessed.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories!

Deb, your Dad sounds like he was a riot!
I still crack up everytime I think about a message he left on my answering machine a few years back.
He said Elissa, This is Dad, Your Father.....call me back when you get this.
LMAO. My Dad most likely has the beginning of Alzheimer's now. His memory is getting bad.
For Father's Day I found the lyrics for a song that he used to sing for Me & my sister, when we were little kids. I taped him singing in High School... I begged him to sing it, so I could have that moment and laugh when I needed it. (morbid huh? That was right after his brother died)
He skipped or forgot the whole first verse. Anyhow, I found these lyrics for the ENTIRE song and sent it to him. I told him I wanted him to sing it to my kids so he needs to relearn it. Here is a link to the lyrics. http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=8440
I also bought him a shirt.
