New Parent Syndrome?

For those of you who know me, I am a Type A personality and usually feel anxious. Since we got Foz it's gotten MUCH worse...even Steve (the relaxed one of the two of us) feels more stressed. He has mentioned that he feels that he has no time to himself. Is it "normal" for us to feel like this? Is this how new moms feel when they have multiple kids? I used to feel so calm when I went home and Annie and I had a routine. She drives me more nutty as she "hovers" over everything including Foz. I'm constantly watching her as she watches over him! She always wants to go out with him (which is all the time) just so she can bark at EVERYTHING and then come back in and get a treat. My neighbors have even commented on her more frequent barking and it makes their dog bark..thus their new baby wakes up. I feel badly but there's not a whole lot to do. Ugh!

Foz has wiggled his way into our hearts with his cuteness and is getting much better. I should probably be very grateful as he could me naughtier than he is. He's just very busy.

It doesn't help that I'm totally not busy at work and therefore have time during the day to obsess over things. I need something to distract me. Thanks for reading my venting!

Also being a Type A personality, I can relate. I was always "on the watch" with both my kids and any other living creature in our house - still am, and my kids are grown! Yes, you feel like you never have any time to yourself. Yes, you feel anxious. Yes, you can't relax. Goes with the territory of being a Type A. Wish there was a cure!
Ugh! At least there are some good drugs for night time :D Also, that I'm not the only Type A out there. There's a reason why kids aren't in our future!

Me too re drugs to sleep... otherwise I obsess all night about every stupid little thing.
Well...

Not having had children yet I can't say if you have new mommy syndrome. I'm also much more of a relaxed person- type B so I don't worry much about him, but I can say that my life is MUCH busier then it ever was pre-pippin! I'm SURE he has me in mommy training school! I've never cleaned up so much poop and vomit, or chased after a little creature so much as I have in the last 3 months!

I used to be able to sit down to a nice meal, without worrying about anything except who was gonna do the dishes... now I'm on constant guard against table sneak attacks. I used to be able to sit and snuggle with Mike on the couch in the evenings and watch some TV- now I am constantly pulling shoes out of Pip's mouth, keeping him occupied with toys and keeping him from driving the kitty girls totally insane... and forget about those potato chips on the couch! Hah, no way that happens now, unless Mike can run intereference! I also have a large fluffy pillow stealer in bed with me now!!

So it certainly is a MAJOR lifestyle change!!! everything is more hectic with a puppy around, but I wouldn't trade him for the world!
Both of our puppies are a little over a year old. Still very active. My husband tells me he worries about our future children. I obsess over the dogs so much worried every little thing is going to hurt them. Hopefully they can teach me to relax for the real kids.
Scruffy's Mom - HA! If you're this way with the dogs, there NO way you will be relaxed with human kids. It's not in your nature either. Welcome to the club, fellow Type A!
I haven't relaxed since we brought Bear home! It's rough at first because the whole routine does get messed up and now it's like watching a new baby because they're into everything. In our house, Lucy doesn't like Bear to get too close to her not does she like Bear and Clyde to play where she can see them-- but if she can't see them, she'll get in the middle of it, get stepped on and then get really mad. So, she screams, which is similar to a bark but very high pitched... incessantly. Especially the last few nights. So for us, we're on edge a lot lately because there's always dog noise. They've been getting normal exercise so I don't know why they're bouncing off the walls. I think James is really ready to lose it so I took the whole gang to doggy day care today (even Lucy) to tire them out.
i think doggy daycare for fozzie might help out a lot. even if you just take him once a week you will have one day of peace and quiet as he will be completely conked out for the rest of the night. stacy if youre at all interested i can get you information for the one i used to work at in prospect heights, the people there are great and very good to the dogs.
Doggy day care helps us IMMENSELY. Not to mention, I can do any grooming I want on them when they come home because they're too tired to care. If it wouldn't cost more than a mortgage payment to do so, I'd take them all every day.
Doggie daycare is the greatest invention ever. Izzie usually goes 3 days a week and falls asleep in the car on the way home. The best is to take her Friday...then we can sleep in saturday morning. :high5: :go: :high5:

I think Fozzie would really like it. He is great playing with dogs of all sizes. It would help keep him socialized. It would also give Annie a break...not having to deal with his puppiness.
Doggie daycare is a great idea! I need to look around our area to find out what's convenient. Thanks guys!
When you can't sleep at night hop on the forum, there is a whole underground of us that prowel the halls all night!!!!! I'm a constant insomniac, it's amazing who you find on line here in the wee hours of the morning!!!!!!

Relax???? What's that?? 8O
I got this in an email today from "God's Daily Prayer".

God's timing is perfect. No need to worry
Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. Colossians 3:2 NLT

Worry is the interest paid on trouble before it falls due.

It is not work that kills men; it is worry. Worry is rust upon the blade.

Lessons of a circuit rider:
When Abraham Lincoln was on his way to Washington to be inaugurated, he spent some time in New York with Horace Greeley and told him an anecdote that was meant to be an answer to the question everybody was asking him: Are we really going to have civil war?

In his circuit-riding days, Lincoln and his companions, riding to the next session of court, had crossed many rivers. But the Fox River was still ahead of them; and they said one to another, "If these streams gives us so much trouble, how shall we get over the Fox River?"

When darkness fell, they stopped for the night at a log tavern, where they fell in with the Methodist presiding elder of the district, who rode through the country in all kinds of weather and knew all about the Fox River. They gathered around him and asked him about the present state of the river.

"Oh, yes," replied the circuit rider, "I know all the Fox River. I have crossed it often and understand it well. But I have one fixed rule with regard to the Fox River—I never cross it till I reach it."

I remembered why I never looked into doggie daycare...allergies :D I'd be worried about what would be transferred from other dogs to Fozzie that he'd bring home.

I did find a new babysitter (at least for the day)...the Everlasting Treat Ball!
Stacy check out www.playfulpaws.com, thats the place I used to work at. You could take Fozzie there every once in a while and if you are really worried about allergies you can pay for him to get a bath at the end of the day... so he will come home exhausted *and* clean!
Thanks, Heather. This place is right next to where I used to get my orthotics for my shoes made. It's close to my Mom's house, but not for us to do a drop off and pick up during the week :( There is a place right near my house which used to be called the American Pet Motel. I may check that out soon. You're right, they could give him a bath too I suppose. Thanks!
The American Pet Motel is where Walter went for boot camp, and I was NOT pleased with them. They were rude and he was absolutely filthy when he was there. Some of the groomers there are terrible and rude as well (although there is one who is quite nice). I really wouldn't recommend them at all.

I think PetSmart might have daycares now? I don't know if it's just for the dogs being boarded there or if they actually have daily daycare.

When I get back in August you should lend me Fozzie for a day, I would love to have a puppy for a day and I promise to wear him out!
Thanks. I called and they don't have day camp anymore anyway. I asked the women if she knew of another day camp and she sounded like she didn't know what I was talking about. It was weird!
