Who has the best handheld game system?

I want to get a hand-held system for travelling in the truck/camping, esp for the kids, but mostly for Madelyn (loves Mario, PacMan, Curious George)...we have the Nintendo systems. She will be 7 in October.

Which do you have and why do you like it or not?

i have a gameboy advance and i like it, but i would recommend the ds. the graphics are better and there are better games. get her nintendogs, she will love it!
Have you heard of something called Tama Gauchi....sorry I don;t know how to spell but she has been asking for one, because a girl in her class has one.

What is it?

Also is there one of these that I could plug into the tv so the kids can play their game on the tv, instead of looking at the small screen? Do they come with a power adapter so we don't waste batteries.

Yes I know we are way behind the times...LOL
We have a playstation portable. I like it because you can buy umds and watch movies on it also. The boys play games on it pretty easily too.
I've never heard of the playstation portable? Is that the PS2? Or something they can walk around with?

We have the Nintendo gamecube, but they can't play that in the truck. We don't have a portable dvd player...one day.
Here is a link explaining Tomagotchis : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamagotchi
They are pretty cheap, probably about 20 bucks. They are little games with a computerized pet that you have to feed and walk and play with so it will grow. They were really popular probably about 8 years ago, I'm surprised to hear that they are back!

If she likes that she will absolutely love Nintendogs for the DS
Our kids have the nintendo gameboy advance sp, as well as the PSP (playstation portable). The PSP is better by far, but for a 7 year old I'd go with either a gameboy advance or maybe a DS. I'm not familiar with the DS so I don't know how durable it is, but the gameboy advance can take anything so far. Plus they come in different colors so each of the four kids has a different color and no arguments over which one is theirs. LOL
Durable is a must, I was doing some flyer checking I had no idea that a DS will play the gameboy advanced games...so that's a bonus.

I'll check into the Tamagotchi thing, and see if I can find it. I hear nothing else but this game from madelyn, she even told me I can go to ToysRUs and find it.

I gave the kids the option to have something that plays Mario in the truck (1 game), or the V-Smile Pocket and play 8 games. She chose the Mario.

I checked that link, thanks Jo for that, :lmt: ... I think no.

I'm liking the idea of the DS, I was going to go with the gameboy because it's been around forever, and it has alot of games for cheap, or used ones from different places. But if the DS plays them then that is better.

Tell me about the pen thing...can it play without that? I'm afraid that will be lost in seconds.

I found the playstation portable..duh portable  need icon for hitting head on wall. I'd have to see their games selection. We've never owned a playstation, we always buy the Nintendo for more family friendly games. But I know Playstation has many of the same things now. I see it cost alot more than the DS tho, and double + what a game boy is. Hubby won;t go for that, not for the kids.
Okay I was looking at the online website for toyrus and did a price comparison.

For the DS machine by itself it would cost me $150. Zellers was the only giving a game with it, a star wars game.

So for a GBA SP, travel case, and 1 Mario game, it will cost $127, before gst.

I will get Parker the V-smile pocket, because he's not ready for Mario.

This is what they are getting for passing their grades.
My 6 and 8 yr old boys LOVE their Gameboy Advance's. Plenty of games to chose from and they stay charged for a long time.

We bought a car charger for overnight trips but rarely use it because they retain the charge for so long.
Thanks Larkles, that is great to know. I think in the kit I bought to go with it has a car adapter, at least the picture looked like it.

We are excited to have it come in, we put it off for soooo long, but it was inevitable. Our patience for "are we there yet?" has become thin LOL, and no matter how many things or games we try to spot (the flag on the car)...this will be perfect to kill time. It's a 5 hour drive for us..with 1 stop for lunch.

They often don't sleep either.

Next purchase a dvd player for the truck, which I decided the game boy was better this time. It had to be one or the other.
