Male Peeing Style

Clyde is now 22 months old and not only has he not come any closer to lifting his leg when he pees, he now has completely given up on squatting. He was never a deep squatter to begin with but now when he has to go, he just stands there, no squat, no body change! It's kind of funny because it reminds me so much of a real man, who would love to be able to be that lazy. But, the part that sucks is that he pees all over the insides of his legs because there's no aim on the stream.

Is anyone else's dog as lazy as mine?

Pepsi only slightly bends his back knees.
Luckily he manages not to pee on himself.
He lived with Harley for over a year and watched Harley and Peanut both lift their legs. He has never even tried it.
Do you leave a little tassle of fur on that thing? From what I've been told by others who own male oes, it helps "direct" the urine away from the dogs legs.
Oh no! I hope Foz figures out how to lift his leg soon. He get into this very wide stance with his legs way out in back of him.
Bailey doesn't lift his leg either. He does a "forward lean" which is funny to watch and keeps him from peeing on himself.

Does anyone else get "the look" when their dog is peeing or pooping? The over the shoulder, "hey! why are you watching me?" look? Bailey always looks around to see if we're watching him
My Boxers were very self conscience and would always give me the look.
My first Toy Poodle wouldn't poop until I turned away...

As long as he doesn't pee on himself I wouldn't worry about it.

Lol. Not for Clyde. We've tried it on, off, half shaved-- he still pees on the inside of his legs. I think the tassel would help if actually made any kind of effort to squat. He doesn't lean at all.

I'd be happy with that, in fact, that's what Bear does and it's very clean for him. I have no problem with him not lifting his leg because that can get messy too. I just wish he didn't pee on himself so much. I think most of the mess is just splash back since it's dropping right by his legs.
Barney doesn't lift either. He usually misses himself, but not always. We have a tassle and it seems to work quite well!
Duke squats just as low as he can and watches me while he does it. It's a little creepy but I laugh all the same.
Sam squats sometimes not so much sometimes very low - very seldom does he lift his leg. Lucky lifts his leg most of the time and sometimes squats.

Me - I sit down to pee!
Bosley does a slight squat and never pees on himself. He also has a tassle, though, so maybe that's it?

He has never lifted his leg.
One of Maggie's boyfriends at the park peed right on the back of her head the other day. Tall boy didn't squat. 8O
Thank goodness for Sheepie Girls   Nice little squat and all still CLEAN 8)
Hello everyone, long time no see. :)

This is such a funny thread.

Ariki squatted for years and I thought he was the only 'dog' who did but he now lifts his leg. He doesn't appear to pee on himself though, thank goodness :)) He'll be thirteen in a couple of weeks.

Brogan still squatts. The only look he gets on his face is a glazed one........

I thought by now he would have learned to lift his leg but perhaps he doesn't watch Ariki when he's peeing hahahaha

Jess.
Jack both lifts his leg high to where he almost falls over backwards or else he leans. Depends on his mood and location. If there isn't a good target, why bother lifting a leg. He doesn't care if I watch, he's too busy watching what's happening elsewhere. Woe to him if there's something to bark at mid pee. He can't decide what to do, bark or pee. He's tried both but realized the stream stops if he barks. bummer. Thanks for tip about the tassel on the end. guess that's why his legs remain dry.

Fox has always been a leaner, except now he's getting old and weak in the rear. I fear some day he'll just fall onto his "knees" and not be able to get up. His big problem now is not peeing on his legs, instead he steps in the puddle.

Harry is a private peer. He finds the most densely shrubbed area to do his duty. If out on a walk, I have to turn away.
Pirate still doesn't lift his leg at 2 1/2 yrs. I'm glad cuz the amount he lets loose of would wash away the house, if it wasn't going straight down!

Mean ol' Molly (girl type dog) always lifted her leg! My animals are so confused!

Now with Pirate when he poopies, he never stays in one place. He's a traveling pooper. I never understood that! He looks like a drunk ostridge!!
LOL...
I haven't met a sheepdog yet who stayed in one spot to poop. Around here it's Pyr Pyles and Sheepie Trails.

BTW, MO also lifts her rear leg to pee......whatever works.

susan
Maggie stays very still but Chummie walks and poops. Gotta watch carefully to make sure I find all of it.
Beaureguard learned to lift his leg a few months ago watching a foster boy we had. So, now he switches back & forth depending on where he is and his mood (I guess). He does poop in one spot though. He's the only sheepie I've had who does that, too. He does give me the slightly embarrassed glance over his shoulder while he goes, too (always facing away from me).

Genevieve is my walking pooper. :D

The funniest one I've seen, and the only one I've seen who does this, is that sweet boy, Dudley, whom I fostered last fall. He pooped in a circle. He would plant his front two paws in one spot and walk his back side around in a circle while pooping. Hilarious to watch. :excited:
I have a squater and a leg lifter. The worse part is when Miller is squatting, Max runs over to him and lifts his leg and pees on Miller. I think its his payback for everything Miller does to him :o
For the first few months, Foz would squat to poop with all four of his paws touching one another. As it was "falling" out, he'd lean himself more onto the front paws so he'd tilt and then hop away. It was very funny!

Now, if he would just start to pick up his leg. He spreads his back legs very far apart and behind him as far as they'll go.
Ok...here's one to ponder...

After Pirate has walked around and done his business, he does a little hoppy dance. I'm not quite sure what it is, but its cute as can be. And my Molly used to do that, so I suspect Pirate learned that from her, and now little Keira has started doing it.

Its sorta like doing back kicks with their hind legs while bouncing.
Wow, I've had some chuckles reading this post.

Baby Max, who was 1 year on Sunday, has just about got the 'lifting leg' thing down although he will only do it against the fence. If he goes on flat ground he still does the leaning forward thing and his aim is not that great with this  . He's is always a 'walk and poo' guy as was my Boxer before him so I thought maybe it was a male thing.

My girl Rosie squats very nicely although always looks very sheepish if you're watching her. She sits still when pooing.

Blimey, the things we dog owners find to talk about :?
Chipper is almost 4 months old and he SQUATS, or does this funny walking SQUAT.... at times, we don't really realize he is peeing... and then he does his Chipper Dance- two cirlces, then poops, then another step- two more cirlces and does the final poop. He has interesting potty techniques!! LOL!
Sammy is 13 months old and occassionaly will lift the leg mainly on my roses but generally squats, I've tried him with the tassle and without and he still pees on himself :?
Mickey Blue Eyes, our foster, ALWAYS lifts his leg. And he rarely (if ever) pees on anything BUT a bush or a tree! He's actually really cute - it's my first leg-lifting boy! He was only neutered about a month ago.
For the walking and pooping with Dixie and Bosley it depends on the consistency. 8O

If nice and firm it all stays in one spot. If is it soft or runny, both of them walk...,like they are trying to get away from it. :twitch:
Our lab Jake was 13 when he passed away last year and he never did attempt to lift his leg. He was neutered at 16 weeks our vet recommends this age for any dog if your not planning to breed. At a regular check up a few years later, I happened to mention that he had never learned to lift his leg to pee. He said this is very common in dogs that were neutered at an early age. Chauncey our OES was also neutered at 16 weeks, and is now 9 mos. leans forward with hind legs stretched behind ( looks as though he's stacking at a dog show ). He has never attempted to cock his leg.
Jasper just started lifting his leg about a month or so ago. He'll be 19 months old tomorrow.
