Doggy Disneyland

We took our dogs to our cabin up in Colorado last week and they had a ball. :) I learned a few things about my sheepie while we were up there.

1) She has way more energy when she is in a puppy cut and in 20 degree cooler weather. They ran and ran and ran... Then they were tired.

2) The best time to groom a sheepie is after they have run up and down a mountain for two days. She didn't even wake up the whole time I was brushing her.

3) My dog loves water! Every stream, lake, sprinkler, snow bank, anything she was in and having a blast. We hiked a mountain that still had some snow on it and we couldn't keep Scruff out of it. She would run through it, sink to her nose, struggle to get out then do it all over again. I think she loves the snow, which we didn't get too much of in Albuquerque this last winter.

4) Herding dogs really annoy hunting dogs when in the mountains. My in-laws had their Brittany spaniel up there. While Maggie was busy chasing a bird or a chipmunk, Scruffy was busy getting her to come back and stay with the rest of the group. It was very funny, though a little annoying for Maggie. Scruffy, on the other hand, didn't understand what the problem was.

One of the best things about our trip was the interaction Scruffy had with my husband's grandfather. He just lost his wife recently and has been very down. It was hard for him to be at the cabin without her. He really seemed to like Scruffy though. They spent a lot of time cuddling and following each other around. And Scruffy was so tired when she came inside that she was able to be very gentle and lovable. He even called to check on her after he had left and we were still up there. It was very sweet and I was very happy with Scruffy. :hearts:

Wow - sounds like a dream vacation to me. Time alone in the wilderness with family and dog - wonderful! Scruffy sounds like a great guy to give comfort to those around him - it makes me smile!
Next time you go, take my guys! Where's the cabin? The Conejos or otherside of the pass?

A tired sheepdog is a very well behaved sheepdog. Maudie was our mountain dog.......she loved to camp. Funny, the forest ranger and his sheepdog......hardly an outdoorsy breed.

sounds like a lot of fun
Sounds like Scruffy had a blast! 8)
I have noticed the colder it is the move active my dogs are.
Pepsi has never seen snow though. He probably never will.
That is so sweet about Scruffy and your husband's grandfather.
Sounds like they really bonded. Sheepdogs are the best for the ability to make people smile.
That sounds like a fabulous vacation! What more could a sheepie ask for??
Very nice that Scruffy was such a good companion for your husband's grandfather.
What a wonderful trip! Your explanation are great...I can picture all the antics perfectly in my head. So sweet that Grandpa bonded with Scruff :D
Hi,

I too loved reading about Scruffy's adventures. Looking forward to photos and more adventure stories!

Hope Scruffy gets to have more fun times at the cabin.
