Every thing I ever needed to know I learned in kindergarten

 Just wanted to share what I learned in kindergarten / puppy school. The instructor said that it's a good idea during the first 6-8 weeks of obtaining your pup to expose him to as many different sounds as possible..... trains. planes, automobiles, crying babies, crying cats, vacum cleaners etc. This way they are de-sensitized ( the info is stored deep in their brains) and not afraid as they go thrrough life and hear these sounds. Looking back - am thinking I maybe could have exposed Griffon to more of a variety of sounds. The boy can get "skittish" very quickly at times. Ohhhhh "what the hey" ... I think overall he is coming along nicely. Why he is a Sheepdog ... that says it all !

What great advice Bumblepatch and you are so right. Socializing isn't just with people and other dogs it's exposing them to as many things and situations as possible when they are young. The sound of water running, vaccum cleaners, car horns, old people, kids, other animals, traffic noises, alarm clocks, ect...the list goes on.

Hey good luck on your obedience training and it sounds like you have a knowlegable instructor.
