Must get rid of Peanut (Toy Poodle) for his own safety

Today as usual Peanut started it. I was grooming Rags when Peanut came over and started growling. Rags attacked himand pinned him down because he wouldn't move. When she released he snapped at her. She bit him again. He still remined in the same spot. It wasn't until I literally picked him up and threw him out of the way that he moved.
Since Rags came it has been a constant battle on Who's the boss!
He is now seizure free, but still snappy towards the baby and constantly instigates Rags. He also barks at Rags incessantly and growling.
He is not like this when there are no other dogs around. He is calm and happy. Since Peanut has always lived with another dog I am not sure why he decided to be like this after Hayley was born. He did the exact same thing to Harley and used to grab him him by the jugular, but Harley would just push him off.
I contacted Southern California Poodle Rescue and they did not help me.
They said a 6 yr old Male Toy Poodle is not very adoptable :cow:
I don't get that. Anyhow was wondering if could all steer me in the right direction as far as what I should do. Obviously SoCal Rescue is not interested. Should I contact another Poodle rescue or just contact a Non kill rescue org?
I am really at my wits end with this. It breaks my heart to have to give him up...but he is going to end up dead if I don't. I also don't want my daughter getting hurt. :( :( :(

Sounds like a bad situation. What about your neighbor? Wasn't there someone who enjoyed Peanut's company?
Yes, our neighbor Joe, but his 4 cats do not like Peanut.
awww cats get used to dogs. With 4, they can put him in his place. Have you asked him? Can an individual post an ad on petfinder?
Sorry Elissa that is happening, I suppose too that Rags is becoming protective of Hayley & won't put up with peanuts attitude. It is a hard decision with Peanut but a wise one if he has been not too good since hayley has been a baby & sounds like not too good when you had harley, the problems sounds like it is escalating.

I hope all works out well and you find a way to re-house peanut. In the long term I personally think it is a wise decision

Joe doesn't like to have to pay attention to anything...hence the reason why he is in his late 40's and never been married. lol
No an individual cannot list a dog on petfinders... I tried. Only shelters and rescue orgs.

He used to attack Pepsi too, but Rags does not allow that to happen anymore. Rags is wonderful with the kids....Peanut is not.
If I got rid of Rags which the thought hasn't even crossed my mind, I would still have Peanut snapping at the kids and attacking Pepsi.
:(
Thanks to a great member of this forum I was given the information that I could post Peanut in Petfinders classified section. Pending approval on the ad he will be listed for 14 days.
I feel so bad about this....I just wish we could all live in harmony.
Rags leaves Peanut alone until he starts up with the growling.
If he would keep his mouth shut and chill out and stop snapping. :(
He has nipped Hayley on the hand when she startled him and when the other dogs are near. The last thing I want is for her to really get bit.
I do love my Peanut even though he drives me crazy. I have had to deal with his psychotic behavior since Hayley was born 16 months ago. I am starting to get buggy :twitch: He just doesn't stop.
I took him with us last weekend to my SIL's house and he was actually really good with her dogs. Maybe he just has developed a hatred of bigger dogs. It really makes no sense. He had no problem before I had the baby. He grew up with my Boxers and Ryan and then when I moved to CA we rescued Harley and then Pepsi. It wasn't until he came home from staying with my sister (who was dogless at the time) after Hayley was born that he started with this craziness. I really wish I could sit him down and talk to him. :( :(
This really sucks!!!!
I'm so sorry, Elissa. I hope you find Peanut a good home.
We got a surprising phone call today.
Yesterday we had asked Freddy, the guy that did our blockwalls if he wanted to take Peanut. He said he already had 3 Chiuahahas (sp?)
Freddy said his wife wants to see Peanut. I would rather come to their house to see how Peanut gets along with her dogs.
He doesn't seem to have any problems with small dogs. Like I said he gets along with my SIL's Mini Schnauzers.
So Freddy knows Peanut is on meds for the seizures.
Wish me luck on this. At least I would know that Peanut is in a good home and I can even keep tabs on him.
Aw, that's too bad about Peanut, but he may be happier around smaller dogs. The poodle rescue sounds awfully choosy, do they only take puppies?
GOD LUCK !!! hugs
Thanks Deana :)

What I was told by the woman that runs the rescue in CA is "People don't want a 6 yr old male" Also because of he is special needs that makes him less appealing
.
I don't find that being on a pill once a day is special needs especially since they only cost $5 a month.
He has got a typical Toy Poodle attitude which appeals to Poodle fans.
6 yrs old for a Toy Poodle in my opinion is still a baby. They live long lives.

One woman that was interested in adopting him lived in Montana and was just starting a Poodle rescue. She said she had 50 people already on a waiting list for dogs just like Peanut. I guess she felt the airlines costs too much for transporting...since after I gave her the info she never contacted me again. It's a shame because she wanted Peanut for herself....and said if it didn't work out that she would make sure that he went to one of these prescreened people. I really wish she would have gotten back to me :( They were a bit crazy about their rescue org. They require one home visit pre adoption and two post adoption visits to make sure the dog was a perfect fit. I would have felt extremely comfortable handing him over to her.
Elissa, how about a transport service? There is one called Acme, I think it's www.acmepettransport.com. I think it's a volunteer thing that you sign up for to find someone for each leg, I don't know if/what costs are involved.
I'm so sorry about this, Elissa. It sounds like it would be best for everyone for Peanut to find another home. I hope one of the leads will work out soon.
Cross your fingers!!! Peanut may have found a new home!!
A couple that live in Santa Barbara contacted me this evening.
They have a house here in the Desert and will be here from this Friday until next Friday. I just sent them an e-mail... I was completely honest.
That he is a typical poodle (ego and attitude) and about the seizures.
Hopefully I will hear back soon.
Good luck Elissa!
Oh, I hope it's a good match.
Please keep us posted! :D
GOOD LUCK!! I hope it all works out- for you and for Peanut!!!!
:!:
Well the first people that were interested decided they didn't want a dog that is "sick" after just losing their dog to an $$$$ sickness

They second person has not responded back after I e-mailed her with Pictures and more info. :(
Maybe she will contact me back :plead:
Which pictures did you email them???????????? 8O
They were very cute pictures. One of his cuddling with Harley.
A few of just him.
Phew! I thought maybe you sent those demon dog pics. Well, I hope they call you back. Otherwise, coiuld you send him to doggy boot camp for an attitude adjustment?

Does he have epilepsy? My last dog had epilepsy and she lived to 16 years old and she was a german shepard/schnauzer mix; a big dog. My vet said he never saw a dog her size last that long. So I doubt having seizers is a huge factor age. You can use that example :)

Good luck! I have a good feeling
Thanks Spacegirl. I know Epilepsy mean that it is a seizure of unknown origin. I don't think it has anything to do with their health.

BTW Peanut is still seizure free 8)
Oh wow, I'm so sorry you have to get rid of a pet! That has to be killing you inside although you are doing it for good reasons :(

I'm glad someone helped you out with petfinder. good luck!
