Pip grooms me... is this normal???

Ok here's a question for everyone.

Pippin now sleeps in bed with us. I sleep fairly low in the bed, so he enjoys sleeping up above my head. Many times I've been woken up by him grooming my hair. And I don't mean just licking, I mean GROOMING as in licking and gently teething my hair- not biting as in play, teething as in what they do when they're grooming themselves. Using his front teeth on my hair gently to seperate it and then gently pulling through it. I've NEVER heard of a dog grooming his person before. Is this normal OES behavior? Does anyone else have a people grooming sheepie?

I guess turn about is fair play, and I certainly don't mind it (Except when he pulls on my hair a little too hard) but it seems a bit odd...

As far as we can tell, he doesn't do this to Mike, only me.

That is so sweet!! :hearts:
Daisy, the one I grew up with, used to do it to my sister & I .... Though she only did this when we were really little. I think she thought we were her puppies. Even though she had had a litter of REAL oes puppies before she came to live with us.
I've never heard of a male doing it.
The only grooming I had ever received since were from my kitties who were males.
My cats will do this...

Maggie also sometimes did this, but not very often. Barney...no way!
Yeah, the kitty girls will lick me sometimes, but I've never had a dog do that before! It's so sweet and yet, a little odd. I keep worrying he is gonna pull my hair out  He also licks my feet, which I LOVE- he does that to Mike and it freaks him out   !
Panda doesnt groom per se, but she does scratch an itch for me...using her front teeth only, nibble on my arms...like she does hers...she also licks my feet, which is gross, but I LOVE too....nothing beats a foot massage after a long day at work! :D
Jasper does that to my arms, but not to my hair. I think it's sweet. Pippin just loves his mama. :)
Rags goes to town on her daddy's feet.
He also loves it.
I love the man, but honestly you wouldn't find me licking his feet.....EVER!!
So I am glad she will do it for him. :D
Karen, that is too cute! If I lay on the floor, Foz will come over and will be gentle when he puts my hair in his mouth for a moment. THEN IT HURTS!

Mom's Tibetan was a puppy, she used to sleep against my Mom's head in bed. It was cute!
For some reason, Pip thinks if I am sitting on the floor (or looking under the furniture for a toy or something) then it is TIME TO PULL ON MOM'S PONYTAIL!!!

Grr... He just comes right up and grabs onto it by rubber band. What a turkey!

He's such a dual natured boy- sometime the adorable perfect fluffy angel who cuddles and grooms and loves me :hearts: ... at other times the horrible monsterclothes stealing, ponytail grabbing, wild barking, water hose herding manic puppy  ! :?

Ahh the joys of puppy motherhood
LMAO..I'm with ya, Karen!
Pirate loves to lick my feet (guilty pleasure for me too!) But my insane Siamese Khobi likes to lick my eyebrows while I'm sleeping! Its truly gross!!!

PS...Keira just french kisses me!
Our kitty Midnight tries to groom all of us, including Chipper! Thus far,k I have never experienced a dog truly grooming as you described- but think it is adorable.

I have to ask- are you prepared for Pippin to sleep on top of your head area at night when full grown? I couldn't imagine...

Karen, didn't you mention you were pregnant? Possibly instinct picking up on that and nurturing? I have heard that dogs will pick up on our health and such... just a thought/idea....
Panda does that too.... just watch you don't wake up with a brush cut! LOL
Riley, our younger OES, likes to groom the new kitten. We thought Zoey had fallen into the dog's water bowl because she was so wet.
Zoey likes to lay next to Riley's belly when I am combing out Riley.
That is so sweet! I have never had one of my own dogs groom my hair, but when I was little, my friend's Newfoundland loved to play with my hair.
Alissa,

I lost the baby a couple weeks ago  but he still does it... nice to know I'm loved by my sheepdog irregardless!!

I guess when he's full grown, he'll get to sleep above my head AND Mike's!  He's pretty good at finding a spot that fits him right now... hopefully he'll continue to do so. Mike loves to pick him up and carry him around like a big fuzzy kid. I keep telling him, what are you gonna do when he is 80lbs... Mike's reply:

With a shrug "Keep doing it"
