A day at the Detroit Zoo

James and I took a break from our house on Saturday afternoon and went to the Detroit Zoo (which isn't actually in Detroit, but is about a mile away from us). It was our university's employee appreciation day so everything was free-- admission, lunch, all the extra attractions. It was a really fun time. Even though we live so close, I haven't gone since I worked there for my very first internship in college. I won't date myself there!

Since the last time I went, they put in the Arctic Ring of Life, which is an indoor/outdoor exhibit with a walk through, glassed in area so you can watch the polar bears swim and mess around. I took some pictures in the tank that came out really good so I thought I'd share.

This one is my favorite:

I took a bunch more plus a video of monkeys (although the funniest part is the dialogue between James and me about whether or not I'm getting it on video). You can see the pics and the video at:

Those are awesome pics! Wow! I love them.... :)

I haven't been to a zoo in forever... at times I think I live in one so maybe that's why I don't go anymore...LOL
"Run, Monkey, run........" LOL.....at least saturday was really nice...good day for the zoo and a good day for a wedding...
Great pix. They seem to be having such fun.
Now here's a phrase you can't use everyday:

"Who's that guy with the peacock?"

Great video and pics, thanks for sharing!
Very cool, Jill. Last time I was there I was impressed at how clean it was 8O
I love Polar Bears. :hearts: They are so graceful looking in the water.
That shot of the Tigers is wonderful. You took a lot of great shots. I have yet to visit the Living Desert. It is our local zoo and it's supposed to be really nice too. One of these days......
Oooooooh, we went to the zoo too!!! No where near as pretty as yours it seems. That was some good picture taking. It's midnight here, so I'll have to check out the dropshot link in the morning!

Your avatar is freaking me out. I can't stop staring at it!!
I love your pictures!!! I am especially partial to Polar Bears!!!!
REALLY GREAT PICS, Jill!! :D :D

Love the one of the monkey scratching his butt.
Great pictures and funny video - run, monkey, run!! Looks like a fun day!
I love the pictures and the video (although I almost puked when watching it). I LOVE bears too and especially your pic of the one with the ball in his mouth. :D

What? Why? Are you afraid of monkeys or something?
I love the polar bear pics. We went to the Memphis Zoo about 2 months ago, and besides the panda bears, the polar bears were my favorites. :) The video is cute too.
Every time Mr. J sees polar bears, he goes into "we need more OES'" mode.

Ooh, I wish we had pandas at our zoo! They're my favorites.
LOVED IT!
Great pics and video. I love the bears, remind me of sheepies. I have a polar bear poster in my house (Bad Boys of the Arctic).
