Good Sheepie Citizens

What kind of volunteer work or community service does your sheepie do?

I do a lot of rescue work, and the other day I did an assessment of a dog that needed to be re-homed. We were told that she was OK with other dogs, but not overly friendly with them. Part of an assessment like this would be see how far the dog will allow another to go before reacting. A nice, submissive dog would not bring out this reaction, so I brought Bosley.
Well, he marched into the house, and I removed his leash immediately. The other dog was all happy to see him, tail wagging etc. Bosley approached slowly, eyes averted, and all was going well. Then he tried to get in a sniff, and in doing so kind of shoved her against a wall. She growled, and he backed away immediately. She stayed away for a bit them came back to sniff etc. Every time he went in to get his turn she growled and left. So he found the food bowls, licked them clean, wandered up and down the hallway, checked out the bedrooms, nosed the human family members you-know-where and got scratches. The whole time she was watching and following him, and all was fine. It was a small house, so they did have to pass each other closely, and when they got close she growled and he kept moving on. Then he was put back into the van to wait until I finished the rest. His job was done and I was very proud of him.

Another things that both dogs do is entertain my neighbors. We are in the country and next door to us live a older retired couple. They have cats and also love dogs. They keep boxes of doggie cookies especially for my two, and a couple times a day I will see the dogs out at the far end of the yard, waiting patiently for their buddies to come out. When she first came to stay with us Dixie would stay backand just bark at them. Now I see how they both jump up at the fence, and get their cookies. Dixie jumps up for pats, gets her treat and jumps down to eat it. Bosley stays up there trying to get in as many kisses as possible before they leave. The smiles on their faces is priceless, and I know that it is something they look forward to doing all the time.

Yuki is the mascot at mr. j's workplace. every time the guys come back from the field, yuki is the first one to greet them. not even the other wives are quick enough to get to the guys before she does with wet kisses and a roooooo rhooooooo!

She also scares the moos-sees away. They tend to cause trouble in some lawns, so people don't want them coming up to our windows. I love them. Yesterday one just sat at our window and there Yuki is on our balcony... roooooo rooooooo!!!!!!! Oddly enough there is a childrens park/playground that is known for having bears. Says beware of bears and in the middle is a huge picnic area and playground for the kids. Kind of ironic. Everyone goes there to play. My friend saw her first bear yesterday walking her little dog.
Beau & Gen visit the folks in the nursing home in my parent's neighborhood. They're not certified therapy dogs (yet), but when they're outside walking by, they love to come over & pet the wigglebums. The staff doesn't mind and the wigglebums sit pretty to receive their pats. It makes them so happy to see their wiggling bums! :D

Jo - I'm so jealous of where you live right now!! :D Bears & Moose in your yard??!
Tammy, what's the story behind the horses in your avatar?
I was going to mention her avatar too. I like it! Was it at the place you took them herding? :)
Thank you! We live out in the country! These sweeties are in a pasture we walk by sometimes. They love Beau & Gen. They always come to the fence to greet them and walk along with us until we get past their pasture. :D

Sorry Nicole! Don't mean to hijack your thread!!
