advice needed

I'm a worried mum. Jake is 6 months old and was spayed yesterday. Last night after getting him home, he took it easy and just relaxed for the whole evening. This morning he seemed fine and full of energy but I took him on a short gentle walk so as not to strain or pull anything.

This lunchtime I've just been home and he is soaking and in pain. His back legs and stomach are wet, his face is wet (it smells like urine). He can't go for more than a few steps without having to lay down (sitting is too painful). I have checked his stitches etc and they look fine and clean so I am wondering what to do. Is this normal, some incontinence after the operation?

I have phoned the Vet and they have told me that the vet will call me back but haven't heard anything yet.

Please help with your advice

If you haven't heard from the vet yet, just go there. If the Jake is in pain, I would not wait. I know my vet is on 24 hour call and usually has another vet available to us when she wasn't. If your vet won't take him in, see if there is another in the area. Don't wait long!
It doesn't seem normal to me. With my old sheep I went throug many operations and usually they heal very quick. Go to the vet now!!!
It's OK, I took Jake straight to the vet after writing this post and he thinks he maybe allergic to the stitches. Jake has had an injection for the pain, I have some tablets to give him and I need to keep an eye on him, but he does seem to be a bit better. I am taking him back tomorrow for a check up but if there is any problem this evening then my Vet has told me to call. Sometimes I think I am just an over protective mum but my vet has said it is always better to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your help. I'm a first time owner and Jake is my family and I worry.

Glad to hear that Jake is doing better. Always go with your gut instinct and you'll always be ok. Your vet sounds terrific, someone you can count on.

He is one cute puppy if that is him in your Avatar. Good luck with his future recovery. He'll be up and into everything again real soon.
Hi Lisa Jayne,
Jake should be about 10 months old now. How is he doing post-neutering?
