herding classes

i was just wondering if anyone ever took their sheepie to any herding clinics or classes, im looking into it to see if there is a place by me that is relatively inexpensive to see if walter might enjoy it... so i was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it?

:?: :?: I don't know about herding... but I would love to know how you and lil Waltie are doing about the aggresive issue??
i'm also really interested in anyone's experience with herding, and i'd especially like to know how you located/picked the trainer.
i got information from a lady that brings her dog to my work, the website is www.magiclegacy.com if anyone is interested in checking it out. im going to call her next week for prices and to see if she thinks a little mischievious sheepdog could have some fun there.

as far as walters aggression we have made fantastic progress. i dont think you can really 'cure' a dog of aggression but a combination of training and avoidance has virtually eliminated all signs in the past 2 or so months, here a couple of things that i think contributed..
-walter had bootcamp and when he came back he did his commands very well, i took a more proactive role in training him and he now does sits downs and stays for food treats and to go out
-we are now feeding him in a crate so that he doesnt feel nervous while he eats, he also sits and stays while i put down and pick up his food
-he is going to day care with me and now will go on long walks so he has a positive outlet for his energy
-as far as the leaving and coming back issue, he has been very good with people leaving but just in case he stays in the laundry room away from the door so that he doesnt feel threatened when people are leaving for work
-at bootcamp he learned 'out' which is the equivalent to drop it, and its quite a miracle but now i can stick my entire hand in his mouth to take things out that he shouldnt have. i havent tested my limits so im not sure if he would be protective of rawhides but everything else is fair game
I'm really glad to hear that. He is so cute and the are for us to love not to run or lives. So that is great. Good luck with the herding classes.
I've been perusing the AKC's site a bit and maybe you can contact one of the members of the Illinois agility clubs to give you some direction on herding as well.

Also this is a link to a section of articles called "The Herdsman" so maybe you can also find some info there.
