problems everywhere

My dogs escaped the yard. Aussie (not an oes) supposidly bit some guy that was walking down the street. My b/f went out and looked at his leg where my dog supposidly bit him and didn't see anything and the guy even said he didn't break the skin. The dog plays with my kids all the time and nothing bad ever happens to them. Well the guy called the cops and sat around outside my house waiting for them to show up. They finally did and the guy was standing outside yelling and screaming like a mad man so the cop asked us for our ID and we gave it to him and the guy was still yelling and screaming in front of our kids. So the cop told us to go back in the house and escorted the guy home. The cop sat outside of our house for awhile and then just left without saying anything else to us.

A different cop came back a couple hours later and said the guy was drunk (he used a different longer word that I can;t remember). I think this cop was just checking to see if the dog was contained. All he said was to make sure we keep him contained. I suppose the drunk guy was to drunk to even fill out a police report. So I think he has 24 hors to do so. Nothing really happened yet. I don't know what to do. or think.
so that was my day yesterday... Thanks for "listening"

It's a terrible thing, those drunks can't remember anything. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the drunk guy opened up the fence while he was teasing the dogs and that's how the dogs got out in the first place.
I agree with Ron, I don't think you have too much to worry about the guy most likely did something to deserve getting bitten  . Since there was no break in the skin I doubt you'll hear another word.

Sorry you had such a terrible day!!!
It just takes us back to the point of getting rid of the dogs... both of them even though Allie didn't do anything. My son was outside too and I think that guy got close to him and the dog was just watching his "flock"..lol
I wouldn't worry about , the intial report would state that he was intoxicated and I'm sure the police looked at the "bite", maybe even took a photo of it in case it's needed later. I would also think if it was that bad the guy would go to a hospital to be checked out, if he didn't it would be difficult for him to pursue any further action. Since he was drunk who knows what his intentions were in getting so close to your yard.
I know it is inconvenient, but put a lock on your gates. This will keep strangers from opening them and also prevents accidental openings by savvy dogs. Our Glacier is an excellent example, she can undo any latch except a Master padlock.......but give her time on that one too.
I wouldn't worry about it either... your dog probably didn't even bite him, he may not have known the difference between a dog tooth and a peice of fence poking him.
Even if your dog did bite him, as long as it didn't break the skin, it is not completely unexpected for a dog to want to protect it's family from a drunken idiot invading your property.
Awww - thats a nerve-wracking situation. I agree with what has been said - I don't think anything will come of it, but it is still a tough situation to deal with and we'll be thinking of you. Let us know what happens!
Unless I overlooked it somewhere, I'm surprised the police didn't question you about whether your dog had its rabies vacination or not. Make sure you have your paperwork handy in case someone questions you about it later.
no they didn't ask. We give the expected shots ourself (actually a friend does it for me who has a farm) at least on him anyway. The only thing they asked was if he has a license which he does. He didn't want to see it or look at the paperwork. The cop just asked and I said yes and he was okay with that.

I havn't heard another word about it since. We saw the drunk guy walk back down the road (walking just fine I might add) and he came back through awhile later with more beer in a white plastic bag.

Hopefully nothing happens to my dog. Other than that we are trying to decide what to do with all of this.

For parvo etc almost anyone can do their own shots, but I always understood it had to be a licenced vet for rabies. It all has to be filed properly with certificates etc.

But then again, I could be wrong.
Nope, youre right...Brian gives Panda her shots except rabies...that has to be done by a vet.
I think my major concern, at this point, would be how to prevent the dogs from escaping again and take every precaution to make sure it didn't happen again. Susan's right, put a lock on the gate. $5 and you have some peace of mind. Not only can something bad happen if the dogs escape, I'd be more worried about some drunk weirdo getting into the area that my child was in. Myself, I don't even let my dogs out without watching them.
I know he is due for some shots now. Wondering why the police man didn;t ask about that though...???

I don't know. We are not city people. we have always lived in the country where the neighbors were to far away to be walking around what the dog thinks is "our area" and even if a neighbor came by the dog would probably know them because there are so few people around. We were forced into moving on a whim when our last landlord died and the house was sold. This was the only place we could find.

I have a lock on the gate now. "keeps the kids in too...lol"
The thing with Allie is she has to go outside and run around the yard to potty. I would walk her when we first brought her home and she wouldn't go and the people who I got her from said they just let her out when she had to go... so now she will only go potty when I let her out alone. Or else pee in the house.

I don't think anything will come of it. There were no pictures taken and nobody had to go to the hospital or call a squad or anything.

who ever knows.
Im not advocating our dogs biting at al but gee they are good judges of character arent they???
