Firefighter saves dogs from wildfire

Last weekend there was a 1500 acre fire here, many people had to evacuate. Among them was a couple who breed huskys and they were not allowed to take the dogs so they had to leave them in a huge pen area and hope for the best. Planes were flying over dumping water and one of the pilots noticed the dogs and that they each had their own house. Being a huge dog lover he flew low so the dogs would go into their houses and then dumped his entire load of water over the whole pen area and all around it. He then refilled and covered the residence so it wouldn't catch on fire and spread to the pen. When the people were allowed to return every dog was lined up at the fence, alive and unhurt :D The fire burned within one foot of the pen and stopped. Several houses were destroyed, including the one next door.

When told I may have to leave I loaded my truck with all the dogs pictures, merrymacs and anything I could grab with an OES on it  Never occurred to me to take anything else 8O Since I could see the smoke and hear the planes I was ready but the wind shifted so I didn't have to leave.

OMG, how scary, Holly!! 8O SO glad you and your family are okay.

And what a great thing for that firefighter to do!! He should at least get a commendation for that! :clappurple:
It ended up never getting that close to me so I was fine. I just heard the firefighter is getting an award, which makes me happy :)
Wow - I love that story - I bet the family is soooo relieved. I'm glad the wind changed and that you'lre ok, too!!!!!
Just curious, Holly, why were they not allowed to take their dogs?

What/Who was stopping them?

I've never been in an area that's being evacuated, so I don't know the protocols. :?
Because the fire was spreading so quickly the DNR forced people to leave immediately to get them away from the danger. They were not allowed to take anything with them :(
How awful. I would be devastated.
Oh my goodness! Wow, I'm so glad you're ok, and the dogs too! Kudos to that pilot :)
