New Car fever

Hi all. I have an SUV that is wonderful. Its a Ford Escape. I've had it 3 years, and it only has 27,000 miles, and is in wonderful condition.

BUT! I've been bite with new car fever!!! I want to get a new car! And, I want it to be a car.

Pirate has never known a car. How do you think he'll do with a backseat and not a cargo space?

One thing I should mention is that Pirate does not jump into the back himself. He puts his front paws there and ***I*** have to lift his tush. Don't know why he does this, but I'm getting tired of it!

What are your thoughts with dog vs SUV vs car?

Oh yea...and would I be crazy getting leather seats?

Nothing cooler than getting a new car. I'm sure Pirate will adapt. But does he still pee in the car????????

You're not crazy to get leather seats. You're crazy if you don't get HEATED leather seats.

And congrats on your 18 pound loss. That's twice as many as me. But I ate a bag of Cheetoes last night. And Cadbury mini eggs.
When we had only Flash we had a car with leather seats, never had any problems. If he can't get in by himself you can get a telescoping ramp and he can walk right in.
Pirate has finally stopped peeing in the car :cheer:

He stopped about 6 months ago. He's learned how to "hold it". But still, I would buy a protective thingie for the back of the new car, when he's in it.

I guess he's a big boy now!
I have a pickup and when I decided to train the guys for trials I knew I couldn't put them both in cab nor let them loose in the back so had to train them to jump up and go into kennels secured about 18" inside the tailgate. I couldn't get Barney to jump that high. With a little encouragement and help from my trainer he found out could do it. Since then he has learned to clear the high jump at 32". Unless your dog has a hip problem, he can jump that high; he just needs a little encouragement; try a running jump with his favorite treat in front of him and a little boost or lift with his coller as he gets his front feet up there and reward with the treat. It might take several tries, but once he finds out he can do it the rest is history.
My Pirate is just too darned lazy! Oh, and did I mention spoiled????
Well, we have a van and a SUV (need the room for our kiddos), but the van has leather seats and Jasper does okay with them! I wouldn't go with them again though, but only because they get WAY too hot during the summer months here. :)

Have fun car shopping! New cars are so much fun.
For a single dog, I don't think you'll have a problem at all. I have a Mini Cooper with leather seats and Clyde loves to curl up in the back seat-- it fits him like a glove. When I take all 3 somewhere though, I have to take the Cherokee!
We are actually a two dog family. Pirate, the sheepie and Keira the border collie. But Keira (even though she weights 50#) can fit anywhere!
I wouldn't trade my SUV for the best car in the world!!!!
