No good deed goes unpunished-II

Three Saturdays ago, I was standing on my front walk with Mulligan, watching two boxers being walked by, when suddenly the boxers started going beserk.

From around the side of my house come three dogs, barking and carrying on towards the boxers, who with lots of (deserved) bravado, barking, snarling and leash pulling, the dogs didn't approach. A minute later a woman runs from my backyard to grab her three dogs.

Turns out she is the lady who moved in "next door" behind us about 6 months ago. Being winter and not feeling 100%, I hadn't met her, her husband or her dogs yet - well, until that Saturday of course.

She's holding her 1 of her 3 dogs and keeping the other two under voice command the best she can, so I put Mulligan in the house. I come back out and ask her if she'd like to borrow a lead.

Not wanting to loan Mulligan's best lead to a person I've only met 2 minutes before, I go back into the house, into my closet and into Mulligan's travel bag and get his long 20+ foot lead. I loan the lead, she promises to return it right away, and I go about getting ready to go to Lowes or Home depot to pick up some materials for my kitchen project (which was supposed to start Wednesday).

She hasn't returned, so I hop in the car and drive up the side street to her home, chat for about 1/2 and then off to Lowes to get the parts.

Sometime between leaving the house and coming home from Lowes is when Mulligan got into the closet and travel bag, both of which I had left open after getting the lead.

So far, assuming Mulligan is OK, it was about a $1500 leash.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Mulligan got into his travel bag, which had food, treats, human trail mix bars and god-only-knows what else, and ate a lot of it. His story is ongoing in the Medical section of the forum.

OOOOOHHHHHHH! Now I understand

Poor Mulligan

(After finally reading the thread in Medical!)

What are those other responses from?

Anyways, $1500 leash? What in the world?!! Did YOU guys buy that or was that a gift? Oh my gosh. they make leashes that expensive? Was it just for decoration? No way.. what?!?! you put that on your dog? So when people see you guys out and about... they often debate "should I try running off with a big dog or just the leash?"

more info!
The $1500 is the expense for the vet bills, which became necessary because I loaned a neighbor a leash.

The other responses are explained in the Members Only section.
Why dont you just go up to her and ask for the lead back??
I did when I drove up to her house, and she gave it back to me.

So... when I get a chance to see my neighbors again, should I start the conversation with: "Remember when your dogs were running around and I loaned you Mulligan's long leash? Let me tell you what happened after that."

I don't blame them at all, I blame myself for not closing up the travel bag, and for not closing the closet door where the travel bag was... but it would be interesting to see their reaction to the story, don't you think?
Ooooh definately
I would at least make them aware of what happened, maybe it will make them more responsible in the future.
