Sleep Medication for fibromyalgia?

Does anyone have difficult staying asleep and take medication for it? If so, I'd be very grateful if you could share your experience with me. As you may know, I have fibromyalgia which is either the cause or effect of my poor quality of sleep. If you would PM me, I'd love to speak with you about some things that might assist me in staying asleep. Thanks! XOXOXO

I'm a horrible sleeper-- I can't fall asleep, stay asleep or sleep for long periods of time. Have you tried Lunestra? It's not as habit forming as a lot of sleep meds and I found that I don't feel so groggy the next morning after taking it even if I cheat myself into not allowing a full 8 hours of sleep.
I have IC..Interticial Cysytis...I think I spelled it right, anyway, bladder is falling apart....but I take ambien 5mg a night or otherwise its bathroom run after bathroom run...I tried Lunesta but Ambien works better for me.
Stacy,
I take Restoril. It works great for me.
I have tried Lunesta, which left a nasty taste in my mouth.
Sonata, which had me up every two hours peeing...lol
When I was in AZ, Darcy gave me some Ambien...that worked pretty well too. But for price reasons and because it works I am sticking with the Restoril. I also take a muscle relaxer Vistaral at night too.
Have you tried Melatonin?

I also stay away from Caffeine for the most part especially after 7pm. Sometime I need it though. When I was working I lived off of Mountain Dew. It was the only thing that helped me keep going during the day or I would have crashed and burn... Luckily now I don't need the Caffeine... I just take a nap when Hayley does.

Also you may want to ask the FMS support group what they use.
We just had some missing people reappear there in the past week. 8)
I am sure they could give you some suggestions too.
Thanks, ladies! I tried Ambien a few years ago for short term use and it did work. Lunesta is indicated for longer term use so I just called the doc and will pick up some samples tomorrow. If it's a no go, I'll try Ambien again. Sonata didn't do a thing for me and I just recently tried the newer one Rozerem. I work for the company that makes the drug and sorry to say that it didn't work for me. I was very nauseous during the day and didn't eat which is very unusual for me. Thanks again!
If the Lunesta doesn't work for you, I would definitely try Restoril....
I swear by it!
What dosage are you taking with the Restoril?
How often do you take it?
Are you hooked on it?

I've tried it a few times, but I'm very concerned about becoming dependent. My doctor prescribed a low dose, it's 7.5mg I think, which I think is 1/2 of the usual dose (It was a little hard to find it at our local pharmacy, had to go to one particular CVS).
Hi Ron,
I have been on and off the Restoril.
Obviously off when I was pregnant with Hayley.
I didn't go into withdrawals or anything.
The hormones kick in big time when you are pregnant and I slept like a baby the first couple of months.
I was on 15 mgs, but I was still up a couple of times a night.
Then Dr upped the dose to 30mgs and I am sleeping much better.
Except when my pain is really bad. No grogginess in the morning.
I take it every night. Sometimes only 15 mgs.
I am an insomniac, but having two kids I can't afford to be up all night.
I am on a lot of meds....so some make others less effective.... Maybe that's why I need 30 mgs.
If I take my pain killer at night I only need 1 15mg. Because that makes me tired.
Here's a response from the natural school of healing

Try spritzing your room with 10 drops of Lavender Essential oil and distilled water in a spray bottle.

Lemon balm, valerian and hops are great herbs for insomnia. A cup of tea before bed can help to calm your nervous system and allow you to sleep soundly without becoming dependent.

Regular massage, warm baths, yoga and simple meditation techniques can increse your quality of sleep. Our meditation group repoted that they were no longer waking at 2am after 3 weeks of meditating only 15 minutes a day.

I hope this info is helpful to someone :D

Thanks for the info! While I may sleep with the Lavendar oil, I'll likely have an allergy attack. Is there a tea bag out there that has those 3 herbs in them? I'd like to try that.
couple shots of whiskey ought to do the trick.

I tried wine, but wound up with an upset stomach.

Thanks Elissa for the info. The Restoril is a water based medicine so it probably won't interfere with most other medicines. They do make a 22.5mg version of it.. I think I saw that on their website.

HA HA! I would just end up drunk :cow: and awake....

Ron, I didn't know their was an inbetween one. I'll have to ask the Dr about it.
Traditional Medicinals makes some nice tea blends and I think they have a version for insomnia. Health food stores and some chains carry it (I apprenticed with an herbalist for a few years so I get my tea's handmade!)

Some of our clients have also had good luck with Sprayology's Sleep Ease which is a homeopathic spray that you put under your tongue. You can order it from their website, www.sprayology.com , I think. I have used the Allergese and Cold and Flu sprays with great results.

Lark
Bigelow makes a tea called Sweet Dreams, it has no caffeine and contains chamomile and hibiscus flowers. There is also one called Sleepytime by Celestial Seasonings.
I retract my suggestion for Lunestra-- I actually meant Ambien! I had that stupid commercial in my head and said the wrong one. Lunestra is the one for long term use, which is why I take Ambien, so I don't have to take something all the time!
I was told by the Dr that Lunesta was approved for long term use because it was non habit forming. It will work if you take it as needed.
With me I had one of their most bothersome reactions. Bad taste in your mouth....when I say bad.... I MEAN BAD! It changed the way everything tasted. Water even tasted gross. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then I checked their website and saw that happens to one of the side effects for some people. So I stopped.
Can "as needed" be every night?
definitely!
Hi, I'm sorry about your loss sleep. I don't have fibromyalga, but I don't sleep well. Until I started taking a Daily Vitamin from this company I'm partnered with them. But we also have a medicine called SleepEase. All of our medicines are Homeopathic Sprays, NO PILLS, NO SIDE EFFECTS, NO CONTRADICTIONS with any other medicine your taking. It's safe and natural! If you would like to know more about SleepEase please email me at cassandrakane94@gmail.com
I take Trazodone. Not sure if that is the generic name or not. I believe this would be addictive. Prescription says I can take daily but I only take it once every 2 months or so because it works verrrrrry well! I went through everything on the market. Prescription and otherwise - my mind is a busy place to be, just couldn't turn it off. I would get so exhausted I would just pass out then 2 hours later after I had a nice nap I was right back up. My hope was I could use the meds to retrain myself to sleep normally. Didn't really work out that way so I just use them every now and then to get a great nights sleep. You will sleep even if the house around you is on fire with these. I always use caution, make sure I tell my kids what I am doing. It does take me about 30 minutes to wake all the way up but after that I'm good and feel great for the rest of the day. Retrain idea might work for you or every other or third night.
