Panda's First Show Weekend

Well, I figured I'd repost this since we're not done yet. LOL
Thursday at the sanction match Panda was stubborn and dug in her feet and pulled her head down. She just decided, nope, I'm done, nap time. LOL
Due to her previous owners hack job on her feet, the judge actually asked me "What the heck happened to her feet?" LOL
I was so embarrassed.
Thursday she was the only OES, and she got a First, a Best Puppy In Breed, a Best Female, a Best of Breed, and a Group 2nd (which means if it had been a real show she would have gotten points!)

Friday, same thing, stubborn lazy dog. LOL Not quite as bad though.... but she came home with a First, a Winners, a Best Puppy in Breed, and a Best Of Opposite.... the specials male (a champion already) took Winners Dog and Best Of Breed, he did not place in Group though.

Saturday, our competition consisted of the specials male again, and Panda's littermates, her brother and sister. Panda's sister beat her for Best Female, Panda's brother beat them both for Best Puppy. Then the specials male beat them all for Best of Breed. He agains did not place in Group though. (where the best of each herding breed compete for the best of the herding group)

Today we are not on so early, so it is a little more relaxed. I can enjoy my coffee and not be up at some ungodly hour. LOL
Panda's brother and sister as well as the specials male are her competition today, all are coming from different cities but we're all going to meet at the show at noon.
I would really love for Panda to get even just ONE point this weekend.... it gets discouraging to go to show after show and get nothing. This is her fist show, but so far no points, so I'm a little disappointed. Her and her littermates are all good dogs, excellent puppies, but the male has the advantage of being male, he just naturally has more ring "presence" and is bigger so makes a more stunning impression. Her sister is a gorgeous dog, really amazing, and is also bigger and has changed color already, so again, a more stunning entrance. Panda's hacked up leg coat doesn't help.... but it will grow.

Either way, I'm very happy for the owners of Panda's siblings, forum members blueshire and oes mum for their dogs wins in the ring :)

(I still want to beat one of them though  )

Anyway, I'm completely exhausted at this point and I just hope I can make it through today. LOL

I'll repost pics as soon as the forum is fully repaired. :)

SHE WON!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still on cloud nine, my heart was pounding the whole time. Panda was more energetic today, and really seemed to be having fun, and I could feel the judge looking at her, and liking her! The judge went over her very carefully, and was really watching us move around the ring.... I think my heart must have been loud enough for everyone in the arena to hear, that's all I heard. LOL
I think my mouth hit the floor when the judge pointed to Panda and I.... I feel like I stood there for an eternity, even though I know it was an instant. Then it hit. We won! I turned at least 50 shades of red, and almost cried right then and there. LOL
People were clapping, and I didn't even realize til I got out of the ring that they were clapping for Panda LOL I think Panda knew, all of a sudden, she held her head higher, had more bounce in her step, and was being a show off! LOL

I am so thrilled, I just can't describe it. LOL
Amber and her mom were great at helping me fluff up and trim her head to look her best, I couldn't possibly thank them enough. :)

Panda now has 2 points, and her major :)

When you've come back down to earth, is there any place that explains how points are calculated and what it takes to earn the title Champion?

I don't know if I'll ever come back down LOL

The AKC site has an excellent explaination

This site explains CKC championships which are slightly different

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO PROUD OF PANDA AND MOMMY! Does Panda get a special treat now or something?!!?!?!! Her other fur-siblings are going to be jealous. ;)
Horay for Panda and Stacy. Savor the high as long as it lasts.

Barney and Maggie send their barks.
Congrats! Winning in the ring is a very nice feeling!!

Wish I could say Mandy & I also had a productive weekend. We won ribbons/classes but no points.
Were you and Mandy at the same show? Wouldn't one of you have had to get points?
This part of it is still very confusing to me LOL
Stacey, where did Panda come from before you? I thought that she came directly from the breeder. Or was she a rehome from the breeder?

Panda's breeder is a friend, and I had been wanting one of her pups for a while anyway, however, Panda had been sold as a show pup but her two leggeds were experiencing health problems so she was returned to the breeder. I've had her for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier :)

I know, I'm still confused about the points too. Even my breeder thought when we won Best of Breed in VA that I was supposed to win the total # of all the dogs & bitches present but that was not true.

This whole weekend there were only OES dogs, no bitches in attendance. Mandy & I were in Open Dogs together yesterday and she beat me so she moved up to "Winners Dog" competition. There was also a "Bred By" dog entered, and he won Winners Dog, and ultimately beat a champion to take breed. Today, Mandy was not present but there was a different Open Dog that I beat today to advance to "Winners". I then got beaten by the same "Bred By" dog. Unless you advance and become the winner out of all the dogs present you don't get any points. You can't get any points if you're the only dog in attendance. How's that for confusing?

Ok, that makes sense. I knew you had her for awhile but I had thought it was the breeder that had kept her for showing so that's why she was a little older. I didn't realize she had previous owners. Well, she's in good hands now!
Way to go Panda and Stacey! It will be more fun now that you have a win under your belt :)
Apparently my lack of understanding the point system is worse than I thought. LOL
I referred to Panda's win as a "major" which if compared to the US system, it is, but in Canada it is not called a "major". Apparently we don't have a specific term for it at all.
I thought I should mention it so as not to spread my own confusion further. LOL
The point system is VERY confusing  in the US it also depends on your geographic location as to how many bitches/dogs it takes for any points. Jess or Lisa, what is the system in Australia?
Congratulations, Stacey & Panda!!

I missed this post earlier. I hate missing out on a celebration!! :D
I'm thoroughly confused by the points system. I'm just glad Panda now has some. 8)

No, she didn't beat the specials male.... he is a separate class altogether since he is already a champion....
OOHHH!!! Gotcha! Hey any win is wonderful! Someday SHE'LL be the specials bitch that all the people are drooling over ;)
