dog grooms cat...

ok.... is this "normal"??? we have a 2yr old cat, a 12yr old OES mix and a 1yr old OES mix..... my 12 yr old grooms the cat... licking her ears and head... now the 1yr old has started licking the cat 8O ....... the cat just sits there for a bit- then gets annoyed and leaves... looking like a drowned rat....
anyone else have a critter that does this? is there any health issues I should be aware of??

tks!

Grooming is pack action. How your cat fits into the pack, well, you'll have to watch. After the cat is all slobbery, does she go off and regroom herself, "Yuck, dog slobber!".
Maggie is always trying to lick my cat Miles. So does that indicate that she recognizes Miles is part of our pack? I just thought she wanted to play with him (like she does with her stuffies).
A number of our cats expect Baxter to groom them (our first OES, Shakespeare ALWAYS groomed the cats). After the cats eat, they go over to Baxter and rub up against him and he gets to work.

Our other sheepdog, Cassiopia hasn't quite figured this grooming the cats business yet - although her cat, Pearl, is working hard to train her.

By the way - it's easier and quicker for Baxter to groom the cats than it is for one of our cats to clean his ears (or maybe the cat just has an ear fetish)

Mork will frequently rub up against Daisy asking to be "groomed" and of course Daisy complies. Mork just seems to think it is his right to be cleaned and have never seen him offer to do the same for her.
I think it is really sweet. I want our cats to have that kind of relationship with our dog(s) too!
How sweet! I wish my cats had that kind of relationship with Louie!
Oh yes! Ben cleans the cats, Kiara (our other dog), us!!!!!!
Jasper does it to Mara, he also flea bites her. That's what I call it, not really sure what it's actually called. Where he like nibbles on her but his teeth aren't touching and it doesn't hurt, so he's not really biting. He does it to me & the boys too, but it's hard to explain.
sandy, looks like you have TT's? Mine is 5 and she got an 8 week old kitten a year ago. She likes to slap him into position and mount him. Tibetan terriers are REALLY bossy. afterwards she lays on top of him and 'fleas' him head to toe. Basically, she's telling him whose boss before doning her surrogate mother grooming hat. Hope this helps.
Along with our two sheepies, we have EIGHT cats, the two youngest are Persians. Bentley, the older OES, will give each cat a big sloppy lick or two any chance he can, especially the Persians. Jenn says he's kissing them, I say he's tasting them...
